Steve Nash, Suns Deny Trade Rumors Again

With the Trade Deadline looming, Nash finds his name in the rumor mill, but both he and his current employer say he’s not going anywhere. From the AZ Republic: “The idea of trading Nash will keep popping up as long as the Suns linger outside the playoff picture with a star who turns 37 before the Feb. 24 trade deadline. President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby’s repeated response is that Nash is ‘the sun, the moon and the stars’ of the franchise to make a point that Nash is here for the season without saying it unequivocally. ‘He (Babby) told me a month ago when it first sprung up that he had no plans to move me,’ Nash said. Nash signed an extension in 2009 that runs through next season. He shows no interest in asking for a trade. ‘I signed up for this,’ Nash said. ‘I’m committed to trying to build a team here. Obviously, last year was a phenomenal year. Tied 2-2 (in the conference finals), I thought we could win a championship. I genuinely believed we could and would win it. It’s tough to be in this position six months later. I’m still committed to it. I love the guys. I think we’ve got potential but we’ve had so much change and haven’t been able to put it together. If we want to point fingers, we’ve got to point some at ourselves and say, ‘We haven’t put it together.’ I’m still happy. I just want to try to win games for these fans and our team because that’s the most frustrating thing.’”

    Dude is all class.

  • J.C.

Well that sucks, I want him to be traded..

  • Justin

I find it funny in a way that the only person that doesn’t want to see Nash traded is Nash (along with most in the organization obviously). I would bet that a lot of Suns fans would be OK to see him go somewhere to have a shot at a title because we all know he deserves it. I equate it to when Roy Halliday was traded from the Blue Jays to the Phillies. Everyone in Toronto was sad to see him go but were happy for him to have a shot at a World Series, because it was never going to happen with the Yankees and Red Sox in the division throwing ridiculous amounts of money around.
Steve Nash has been all class all the way

I wouldn’t be too okay. He’s my favorite player on my favorite team!

Suns and Nash fit together perfectly but strangely a fit could also benefit both parties.

I am from Phoenix and i wish he were traded.. he deserves a championship more than anyone in the league. He will be ahead of Charles and Malone as the greatest player to never win a chip.. He’s the best shooter in NBA history

  • http://google c_cantrell

dude is totally deserving of a chip and rightfully so.. but damn dude is still killin at almost 37.. i bet hel be playing til hes around 41 or 42.. hes like a walking fountain of youth man

The city’s population would take a huge dump if he got traded. People here would riot, burn down buildings, loot, learn karate, attack robert sarver in hoards like bees.

I just don’t see what REAL CONTENDER he could go to? Other than the Magic, all the other REAL CONTENDERS are set.

Lakers-Not getting rid of fisher, plus they have nothing to trade for him.
    Mavs- Got Kidd
    Spurs -Got Parker
    Thunder- Got Westbrook

    Celetics – got Rondo
Miami – Got nothing to trade for, unless they move Bosh, which ain’t happening.
Magic- only if the Suns are willing to trade for Nelson.

    better than Charles and Malone?
Am I the only one who saw that?
    Nevermind.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Allen I just ignored it, just absolutely an insane comment

  • dako24

New York please. I just want to see it done. Felton and Randolph for Nash and Dragic. It’d be nice to see the re union.

  • Gus

better than charles, malone and stockton i might add

I can see both the Mavs and Celtics willing to take Nash. Just cause they have someone, doesn’t mean there aren’t benefits to taking him.

Nash in the ATL throwing alley oops to J-Smoove and Horford would be awesome.

    @ nbk
Better qualitatively. Nash is probably the most efficient player in the modern era
(50% FG, 40+% 3PT FG, 90% FT) and he has led teams filled with old guys (shaq, kurt thomas, grant hill tim thomas), misfits (boris diaw, channing frye, tim thomas), and one dimensional players (eddie house, jared dudley, tim thomas) and made playoff teams while in PHX. All while scoring LESS than 20 ppg. If that isn’t criteria for the best player w/o a ring, then I’m sorry for wasting your time and webspace.

  • EC

Yes.We.Did…. did you bother to look at any other ‘player w/o ring’ careers? or does it start and stop with the Golden boy Steve “i can do no wrong” Nash?……. and everytime nash was in the finals who did he lose to?? oh wait nevermind….. haha

  • Justin

I think he would have to go down as the best point guard not to have a ring, not best player

  • DMC14

He’s career isn’t over yet people. GO SUNS.

I was dissapointed when Arenas went elswhere i would love him to play in Phoenix (noy saying it’ll be some magical fit or a championship i just like him as a player).

    Nash for Arenas.

(Barkley is my all-time fav playa so i cant say he’s the best to not win).

  • DMC14

oh i dont really care if Nash is traded i like him as a player and a person. But if he wants to go elswhere i wouldn’t hold it against him if he asked for a trade (as long we got a quality PF or PG in return).

  • swift2

I guess if we are going to just base this on his athletic abilities he is deserving. But there is much more about this guy behind the scenes that makes me sick. He can get any woman he wants with his money…certainly not with his looks…he is one homely looking man but thinks he is all that. Good thing you can play basketball Nash because that’s the only game you got going for you. You have no personality, nor morals, and your are arrogant as they come.
