Alvin Gentry Has Lost Respect for Kevin Garnett

KG’s latest antics did not sit well with Alvin Gentry. Think he’s mad? Imagine how Channing Frye feels. From 620 KTAR (via Arizona Sports): “I used to be a big fan of [Kevin Garnett],” [Gentry] said. ‘Some of the antics he’s pulled lately, you don’t need to do that as a star player. I’ve never seen Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant or even a Dwyane Wade do that.’ The coach was upset because Garnett not only hit Channing Frye in the groin late in the Suns 88-71 victory over the Celtics but also because the forward placed his foot where Frye could land on it after shooting. Gentry viewed the tactics as reckless play that could cause injury to a fellow player. ‘You can compete and play hard, that doesn’t need to be a part of it. It really doesn’t,’ he said. ‘To do that to someone you can seriously hurt him,’ he said. ‘You know the fact that all of a sudden Channing comes down on his foot twice on jump shots that’s a very dangerous play. If you’re asking me, yeah, I lost a little respect for him. I love his competitive nature but there is no place for what he was doing in our game.’”

It’s hard for me to care who you respect Alvin Gentry.

  • http://bulls.com airs

honestly, that sacktap looked pretty accidental. but that foot things, who knows, seems like something KG would do.

    @Allenp LMAOOOOOOO

    thing*

  • Stepfan

It’s funny cause Garnett doesn’t give a sh!t.(Kobe Bryant voice.) And Fyre was faking cause he got right back up and tried to be tough and get in Garnett’s face after the “low blow.”

  • beanzz

KG is a punk!! He changed completely after he was on a winning team! He is always doing this!!!

  • http://approaching-perfection.com loso

the league was way tougher when kg was coming up by way of minnesota, they just didn’t catch everything on camera.

  • RunNGun

    Kevin Garnett is bush league.

  • Red Star

KG is one of the dirtiest players in the league, I’m not surprised!

  • tRay

Kinda funny how you get hit in the groin yet you get up faster than a speeding bullet lol and Kobe did do sh*t like that like when he was flopping his arms after a shot and gave Ginobli that black eye.

  • Jer dawg

I hate Boston and i hate everyone one of them. But that’s how he maintains his edge on the team. So, ef him and whatever.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

I lost respect for Garnett when the Bulls and Celtics had that first round playoff series in ’09…and Garnett didn’t even play in that series!

  • http://kobebeefnba.com LDR4

When you call someone a cancer patient and then you punch a player in the crotch (those are just some of the things Garnett has pulled this season) then it is completely understandable that you lose the respect of your peers. KG needs to stop acting like DMX Lite and just play the game.

  • brendan

Seriously.. i used to respect the sh*t out of him… i dont know why he is such an ass now.. even if both of things arent true, which i think they probably are, he has done plenty of other disgraceful things, like his actions and constant x rated mouth from the bench in the Bulls series

  • C Billz

    allenp is a cracker..smh

  • 1982

Just personally, I don’t really consider Alvin Gentry one of KG’s peers.

  • tRay

    @Enigmatic
LOL he was prowling the sideline like a raged caged silver back gorilla

  • barnabusb

Talk means nothing. KG will kepp being a punk until someone stands up to him.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

oh the sack tap was on purpose. If you played basketball in your life you know damn well he did that on purpose

  • paul

Nice. Keep right on demonizing Garnett. Good job.

  • Drew

KG seriously has turned into the leagues biggest douche bag since being traded to Boston. I don’t see Ray Allen or Pierce all of a sudden turning into douches.

  • toinefan88

The bangkok is funny. But the sticking out ur foot thing is awful. I want to see a video of this if it is really true or not. I am the biggest Celtics fan but even I would lose respect if he did that.

Way to learn something we all learned two years ago, Gentry.
KG Backed down like a wimp when Frye got up. He can stare down and approach Peitrus, but Frye is KG’s size, he had to have Nate and Perkins run and back him up (and word to my boy Gortat for manhandling both those dudes)

  • mp7three

Yes, KG is a douche bag but antics did help Boston develop a winning attitude. So having an a-hole gets a pass when the team is dominating. And until someone pulls at Anthony Peeler and knocks KG around, he will keep being a bully*.

*(bully to small Euro’s or nice players. Never pulls that sh!t with players he’s afraid of)

  • Max

KG is a hit and run gangster. Hit the smaller player, then run back to Glen for protection. Tim Duncan > This Pile, any day of the week…

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Juks, I got a lot of love for you, but I don’t think Gortat handled Perk lol.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

for any who’s watched KG attentively in his ‘Sota years, was he like this? or did he just go to the deep end when he became a celtic?

  • SK6

KG is like the old guy at the YMCA; 10 years ago he was the best player now he can’t keep up so he plays dirty and makes crazy faces. The problem is when someone finally does something back to him and puts him on the shelf the league and the media will make it seem like he is the victim because he is big named guy in the league. What goes around comes around and when he lands on someones foot and blows out his knee or ankle I hope he gets up with the stupid stare of his and pats the guy on the back and tells him good job.

  • http://sdfklf.com Jukai

Allball: Nate shoved Gortat and Perkins when to strongarm Gortat and Gortat moved right past Perk to get to that little green dipsh*t.
    So yeah, I am biased.

  • vtrobot

i remember when KG was so nice and wholesome in minny. nobody ever even heard him swear once. he went to church every week. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. i love all the debates on these boards about who the fake tough guys are, who the REAL tough guys are (like any of you know), etc. FYI, frye “backed down” from that fight too. the only people in the L who aren’t “backing down” from the confrontations are the ones who actually throw a punch at the other guy. you don’t see ray acting like a d-bag because he isn’t one.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    So… Which Williams won?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Clearly y’all don’t remember when KG mushed Tim Duncan in the face in Minnesota.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

actually, he slapped him in the back of the head, after woofing in his ear.
I also think he mushed him, but I haven’t found that one yet. search you tube for “Kevin Garnett slaps Tim Duncan.”

  • http://www.slamonline.com Sergio

    KG is a b!tch

  • tRay

Half of y’all on here wouldn’t hit anybody either so stfu and he didn’t even back down from Frye he went head up with him until Gortat seperated them

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

Sure, KG is a jerk. Celtics in 2011 anyway!

  • MusketeerX

KG is a douche (like most of the Celtics). He told a ball boy at the Lakers games that the kid had a better chance of catching Osama Bin Laden than getting his autograph.

Just mean. Is that really how you want to remember your career KG…

  • dubb100

Garnett is a pu$$y. You don’t see him pulling that shtt with AMARE

  • Kevin

Gotta love KG. He’s my hero…

  • http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/ Anthony

Allenp i remember that, Tim answered back and both got double T after that. It’s stucked in my memory because it was the first time i saw Tim responding back that way.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

I think it’s hard for Garnett to care about who Gentry respects, too.

  • tommy

bla bla bla no one cares if gentry does not respect kg. i hate how people are jumping on that “KG is dirty” – bandwagon. just respect this man for giving everything and i mean totallly everything for his team to get the W!

  • riggs

dubb100 you must be an idiot or have short memory because he has messed with amare.

  • Heals

Yeah I thought the “cup check” was accidental too; looked like the feet under his landing should’ve been their main gripe…

  • logues

co-sign stepfan. i cant believe noone else has bothered to mention that channing frye was completely acting… he fakes like hes hurt so bad that he acutally falls to the groud, then all the sudden hes not hurt anymore and gets up. the WWE should recruit channing frye, hes got perfect acting for it

  • logues

also, i could be wrong and biased, but i think kg was trying to go for his stomach area, but went too low, cause ive seen guys do that alot before when guys shoot they kinda give em a little touch/push to the stomach. still a dirty play kg, but frye way overreacted

  • JL

too bad but jerks win all the time. KG’s been dirty since he was in minny. just no one saw him back then. it’s all part of the game. i don’t like his moving picks tho. good thing the league cracks down on that sometimes.

  • http://www.twitter.com/notebooknick NotebookNick

Is KG taking Bruce Bowen’s place as dirtiest in the league? There could easily be a case made.

The “sac-tap” is something I’ve seen many times in the past. It usually ends up being a “stomach-tap”. The foot under the shooter looked more like a lazy boxout to me. I watched it in slo-mo a few times. When the shot went up, KG turned, did the “sac-tap” and a halfass boxout and Frye came down on his foot. It happens a lot when guys close out jump shooters. For those who say KG turned into an a-hole when he got traded to Boston, he was like that in Minnesota too. He was just never on TV because the Wolves weren’t contenders and he didn’t have a high-profile teammate to help him draw TV ratings. Exposure is why people think he’s an a-hole now. He’s always been an a-hole. The kind of a-hole that gets multiple ASG selections, MVP, DPOY at least 1 championship and future HOF.
