Yves Saint of The Niceguys weighs in on the Melodrama.

So, it looks like Carmelo Anthony is going to the New Jersey Nets. He met with both the Nets and Knicks out in L.A. anyway, so we’ll see. My absence from this blog has been for many reasons: My schedule growing ever more busy, more shows, the flu, increased writing for our new EP and album, and insomnia have all played a part in my leave. I hope that no others have replaced me in my stead. But, nothing keeps me awake at night like knowing that we take part in courting a player who doesn’t seem to want to play for us so publicly.
I actually had nothing to say. There have been ups and downs. An eight-game winning streak starting with Detroit (11/28) and a six-game losing streak starting with Utah (1/12). This is okay. It happens. A 28-26 record. Above .500? Yes. Pleasing? Somewhat. Life and electricity are back in New York. There is a process. And that process does not include overshadowing the performance, needs, and building process of the team and players that are actually playing in Knicks uniforms. I tell anyone who dares to inquire about my feelings on Carmelo coming to the Knicks that I simply don’t care.
We have players whom we haven’t seen enough of yet, and we don’t know for sure the true character of this team. My main desire is to get back to the Playoffs. Win or lose, New York needs to feel Playoff basketball again. I want to see who will step up and who will fall back. I want to see and feel an MSG home court advantage again. And I want to see the players that we have now do it. I can’t bear reading headline after headline about the Knicks’ efforts to reel ‘Melo in. Who says he can handle NY? Who says he will like playing for NY? Hell, who says he won’t be the best thing to hit NY ever? These are uncertainties. I am a firm believer in the mantra, “You are what you think.” If you think it enough it will become you. Rather, you will become it. However you see fit to word it is fine, but the point is that all of this is a distraction from what I hope the Knicks organization is once again trying to become.
There is nothing going on basketball-wise that I can say I’m impressed with. I am hopeful, though. My initial statement was that it does not look like Carmelo will be coming to the Knicks. In the time spent wooing and pursuing the great blue and yellow hype, the team lost a little bit of the spark it had. But there will be a return to normalcy. I have a strong feeling that once the organization (players, faculty, and front office included) gets back to worrying about what it has and not so much about what it wants, or think it wants, and then get that surge of energy. I don’t agree with letting anything inside or outside of a group impede progress. I can’t even prove it has. What’s on the front of your mind will be your foremost reality. If that mentality spreads it can shape your actions consciously or subconsciously. You are what you think. I just want the Knicks to think All Knicks, All the Time.

UPDATE: Shit changes so fast in this ongoing saga. Since I first wrote this a little while ago, it’s looking ever more like he’s going to the Knicks. Who knows? What I do still know is that what they are offering for ‘Melo is the heart and soul of a team that fought to bring some pride back to NY. Felton, Gallinari and Chandler are on the trade block. We will see what happens between now and Thursday afternoon. I’m not happy about it, but I am pleased with the class Carmelo has shown. Anyway…
