Cavs Going for History: 24 Straight Ls

by Ryne Nelson

Immortality is for the Cavs’ taking tonight.

Riding a 23-game losing streak into tonight’s game against Portland, the Cavs can set a single-season losing streak with another L. As the AP tells it:

The Cleveland Cavaliers are haunted again by losing No. 23. The Cavaliers matched the longest single-season losing streak in NBA history, dropping their 23rd straight game with a 112-105 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night.

The Cavs tied the 1995-96 Grizzlies, then in Vancouver, and the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets for longest skid in one season, and can equal their own overall mark for futility with a loss in Saturday night’s game at home against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Cavs are at the bottom of the L in both offensive and defensive rating. But one terrible season doesn’t mean the franchise will be mired at the bottom of the L for a long time. Just a couple seasons back, both the Celtics and Heat had he worst records in the League. Now they’re considered the class of the NBA.

Things move in cycles, people. For now, the Cavs are just at the very bottom of their lowest trough.

24 Straight L’s could also be the album name for the next Redman and Method Man album.

    karma’s a b**ch

Boston and Florida are desirable destinations tho… man Lebron really f’cked this team over with the late decision ish

  • slamfan4life

Again haunted by #23, ROFL thats too mean

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

damn i sorta feel sorry for Cleveland, they’re worse than my high-school’s b-ball team

  • http://www.myspace.com/freedmusic Fredd

work in progress, the record is on the line, … shame on this cavs’ owner …

  • coggie13

Weren’t they going to win a championship before Lebron does?

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

@coggie Never listen to a pissed-off NBA Owner EVER, that’s the lesson we’re learning as we read this article

  • STAYWEIRD38

this garbage team is weak they are just trying to fail and loose to get a high draft pick i guess if you can stand the humiliation and all that its a good idea but i would hate to be from ohio haha

  • lexluther703

Who cares, they’re still gonna “win a championship before the self-proclaimed king.” CMON SON

  • http://www.chicagoskyblog.wordpress.com hoopla

seriously, the cavs front office didnt even try to make any changes in the offseason after Lebron left. and even now, they still havent done anything. THEY’RE PLAYING FOR NOTHING NOW, MIGHT AS WELL COMPLETELY BLOW UP THIS TEAM. maybe they could pull something off to get like 3 lottery picks to counter miami’s big three. lol

  • coggie13

@BlackPhantom It was rhetorical. I was mocking Dan Gilbert.

  • james

lol, speaks volumes about lebron james that this team actually had the most wins a year ago.

  • youguysareclowns

Lebron still hasnt won a ring.

  • Hum

    it’s done

  • Crustified-Jalepino

Karma is a Female Dog to put it nicely. Word to B. Crawford – Bron is just good ? He he ..

  • Crustified-Jalepino

They need Varejao back to win a game. Thats funny ish right there.

  • Zarfan

Seven players scored in double-digits and my Cavs still lost. They should just rename the city Clevelan cuz I don’t see anything resembling D within the city limits.

  • James (N.Z)

They need a leader. Its not good when 7 players are in double digits on one team in the nba unless they win cause of a blow out. They need to make extreme off season moves and listen to their players. Jamison needs to move on cause hes not mentally wit the cavs but still tries to go out there and play. etc etc etc give them 5 years to rebound

  • http://dodgers.com Joey E.

did Byron really want to coach that bad? should have waited it out a little longer. i know i know, he thought bron would stay. still though

  • 2KInsider

I guess LeBron really was the MVP last season.

  • bashmo

WTF they do need Varejao he gives em interior defense and rebounding which they are obviously suffering from seeing that Jamison and Hickson are your starting Bigs and play the bulk of the minutes. Varejao does not only play scrappy D but rebounds and can sometimes score, as much as I hate him, i have to admit he is very valuable to this Cleveland team. With him in the lineup they wouldnt have been losing so bad.

  • Lee

Man, my Bucks are struggling and all this season but… at least we ain’t the Cavs.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

lol why yall got my mans Christian Eyenga on the cover pic?

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

THEY NEED TO BLOW UP THIS TEAM. YEAH. BY TRADING AWAY THEIR GOOD PLAYERS A-
    Wait.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

We are all witnesses…to the biggest effing meltdown in NBA history.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

And I’d feel bad for Cleveland but nah, f*ck em, I ain’t forgot all the sh*t they used to talk about my Bulls when LeBron was there.

  • Yesse

Didn’t Dan Gilbert say, that the Cavs will win a championship before Heat? I guess he has a shot if Heat doesn’t win a championship this season, lmao.

  • Adam

I dont mind lebron leaving, but waiting to announce it did somewhat limit what the team could do in free agency.

  • http://www.myspace.com/freedmusic Fredd

@Adam, it’s a business, you never have only one Plan A … you’re supposed to feel it in the air and get ready to make other potential deals … Gilbert cried on James’s departure … it should have shut up and take care of the roster …

  • ClydeSays

It’s pretty clear Gilbert convinced himself LBJ would resign. Did the Cavs pursue ANY other free agent? The injuries to Mo & Andy just piled on the misery.

They’ll be in good shape to get a high pick next year and trade Jamison’s contract. If there is no lockout that is…

  • Kaboom

“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE” – Dan Gilbert

    :) :):)

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    LONG… LIVE… THE KING.

  • http://zenguu Max

This is why Varejao is my mvp, he plays, Cleveland wins 8 games, he doesn’t play –> haven’t won a game since then.

  • Dagger

Varejao was playing through the first half of this losing streak (and the one that preceded it), when the Cavs looked, if anything, even less competitive.

  • feez22

I thought cleveland would have a bad season. But 24 straight losses? well at least they get to face washington. wash sucks as well. If they can’t beat washington at home (wiz are winless on the road this season) than they might as well pack their bags and forefeit the season. I have to give it to cavs fans though. Ya you guys were hurt in the offseason but man… 2nd in attendance league wide still? pretty amazing stat when you are cheering for the worst team in the nba. pretty sure that the cavs attendance numbers will drop a lot in the next couple of yrs though.

  • Jalepino Sauce

Theyre gonna get the number one pick next draft. Who knows.

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

So who would win if the Cavs met up with the Washington Generals?

  • http://slamonline.com kobehater

thats karma, KOBE SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hate it 4 varejeo though

  • http://slamonline.com kobehater

lebron will have plenty of rings when this is over, KOBE SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sanman

At least the CAVs will win the WOODEN SPOON before Lebron James does!

  • scott

i dont understand all you idiots screaming about karma. the cavs didnt do anything to anyone. if anything, the karma would be lebron breaking his legs or something else that ruins his career. he is the one that got the cavs to pay high money for $hit players (jamison, etc) now they are stuck with big contracts and no leader. and no lebron.
Health is the mvp of the cavs. If they had their whole team healthy, they wouldn’t have lost this many. I’m not saying they would be good, but they wouldn’t have this losing streak going.
hopefully they can turn things around.

  • Jalepino Sauce

^^^^^^^^^^ scott ”The cavs didn’t do anything to anyone.” MAN S.T.F.U. !! The whole ogranisation & many stupid fans decided to not to understand why Bon left the way he did . Thats what happened. ” hopefully they can turn things around. ” MAAAaan S.T. Ugly Face of Yours Up !! Hopefully they will never win an NBA game ever again. KARMA is You scott !!! You are Karma. Yo Momma too.

  • Jalepino Sauce
