Celtics Send Kendrick Perkins to Thunder For Jeff Green

Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to break the news:

Nate Robinson was also sent to OKC as part of the trade.

Perkins turned down the extension wanted more money. So they dumped him.
    It is a business.

Wow. Didn’t see this one coming. Perk was always one of my fav in Celtics uniform for his toughness and leadership. Plus he came up big in some cruical games for them. Don’t know why they traded him.

  • JTaylor21

Perk>>>>>>>Green, I don’t care what anyone says. You can find plenty 14-5 guys around but finding a great post defender/rebounder is hard as hell. KG is too skinny to guard centers, Shaq is too old to play more than 25 mins, Big Baby is too short, Nenad is too soft and JO just walked off the triller video.

  • Alex

This was a move to offset the lakers eventually. Perks, Boston was gonna let him go anyway, once his contract was up. Atleast this way, they get something in return. Green was brought in to help stave off Odom. Only thing is, if Bynum’s healthy, which i think Boston wasn’t counting on, Boston is in trouble. Boston can still handle Miami and chicago, even tho I hate Boston.

Eboy is popping his champainge bottle!!!
I dont understand why they would trade Perkins was it because he was going to hold hostage Boston like Melo did to Denver? I really dont know why they would make this trade? Jeff Green is undersize PF and Nenad Krstic reminds me of Big Z!!! The big advantage the Celtics had over the Heat and Bulls was the big men and they traded away Perkins. Lebron rejoices in his mansion!!!

  • Roy

    thunderrr upp!
all the other teams should be real scared of OKC right now

  • chicken

Of any player the Celtics should have traded, it should’ve been Jermaine O’Neal. Hell, if they could sell a done-for-the-season Marquis Daniels, why not package O’Neal and Avery Bradley for a decent wing player? Giving away two key players was not the way to go about this.

  • Toronto

A couple of things to chew on: Danny Ainge likely went to his core guys (read: Garnett, Allen, Pierce, even Shaq) and asked them if they’d approve. Another thing: just like last year, Boston is saving itself for the playoffs. Say what you will about Shaq and Jermaine, but I’m sure Boston’s just making sure they’re ready for the playoffs. Another thing: Jeff Green is 6-9, lengthy, strong. He’s definitely not Perkins, but he’s no pipsqueak. He can play the 4. But really, losing Perkins only causes potential troubles against the Lakers, because no one else has such size to worry the Celtics. But, like I said, if Shaq/Jermaine are back, and Boston will make sure they’re rested and healthy, then those are two veteran post guys with finals experience.

  • chicken

I am failing to remember when Jermaine O’Neal was in the Finals.

  • showtime

Yea go ahead & give that playoff home ,court to the heatles they have 1rst in the bag

  • Bruno

I think the thunder is ready for making some noise in the playoffs and I dont get what the celtics did maybe thinking in Miami but don’t know

  • Andy

Stupid move by the Celtics. Currently there is one guy in this league that can guard Bynum or Howard, and that’s Perk! Remember last season Finals? No Perk, C’s shot down. This is a dumb move. They are a old team, and their best chance was this year. And i hear people saying the have the O’Neal’s…who between them have played like 15 games in the last couple of seasons…great move Ainge!

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

@T-Money that remains to be seen, if it has anything to do with this season, I think its because they see Miami as their biggest threat. What happens in the regular season dictates almost nothing after the first round of the playoffs so I doubt their 3 wins mean much to them. And having Shaq & Jermaine as “inferior” as they are to Perkins (which I don’t really buy into) are still above average defenders. Regardless, when has Dwight ever beat the Celtics without Perkins in the playoffs? Only reason they needed Perkins (meaning a team that has beat them without him) is against LA, who’s chances at making the finals seem a lot slimmer then they did a couple months ago. But maybe this trade was purely a business move to keep them relevant passed KG’s career, or even into next year, because if they lost Perkins and got nobody, what would all of you that hate this trade be saying then?

  • http://Www.slamonline.com Royal

The Thunder must have really hated him not passing the ball to Kevin Durant last night

  • http://www.slamonline.com The Ambassador

NOW WHEN I REALLY THINK ABOUT IT IT’S AND NBA Conspiracy!!! David Stern and Eboy want to see a Laker vs Heat Finals Match up!!! Next the Spurs are gpoing to trade Manu Ginobli to the Nets for I dont know what!!!

  • T-Money

The Cetics’ vets were NOT consulted and they are livid right now, if you believe Wojo.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

How about chemistry? Celts better hope Perk fails the physical.

  • http://google c_cantrell

awesome!! i been hoping perkins would end up with perkins!! now they have all the pieces a team needs to contend!! hell yeah!! whoooo!! doesnt really make much sence on bostons part unless they think green can learn the game tremendously under kgs wing.. green will flourish and eventually form one hell of a one two hit with rondo when the big three fade out.. lil nate on the thunder?? hell yeah he gives us one hell of a boost off the bench.. a boost that maynor is not capable of giving.. perkins and ibaka will instantly

  • Bruno

    I want a Lakers-Heat Finals too … I want a Lakers finals with anyteam I don’t care

  • http://google c_cantrell

^—- form one of the best defensive front court in the league and the thunder are now officially amoung the elite of the nba.. it wont be the same story if they meet the lakers this year in the post season

  • http://www.slamonline.com The Ambassador

Wait even with Perkins in the lineup the Thunder are not are not a elite team!!!!

  • LA Huey

I hope this week doesn’t make the players think twice about “team loyalty”. Because the teams really do have every player’s best interest at heart.

  • http://google c_cantrell

^uhh yes bud i believe that the thunder are an elite team with perkins in the lineup and with nate coming off the bench and with more inside toughness in nazr.. if you say the thunder are not an elite team then you dont fully understand basketball my friend

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

depends on your definition of Elite, if Elite you mean they could get to the CF, possibly the finals but wouldn’t actually win the Chip then yeah they are elite. If you consider elite teams that are real threats for the title (can beat anyone, no matter who they play) then no I wouldn’t call them elite. But they have all the pieces, a starting 5 with an average age of 22/23, with a scorer, 4 very good defensive players, terrifying in a couple years.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com Moose

    Nooo….

  • el_larsen

    danny was high on green

  • http://google c_cantrell

terrifying right now actually bud.. this is the team of the future yes but also they have everything they need to reach the finals just as any other so called contender in the league

  • robb

    good trade.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

except experience. which you are underrating, massively.

  • BostonBaller

I don’t understand this trade either but I have to trust Ainge on this one. I hate that Hulk is gone although I like Green (I think he is a better fit for the Thunder than for the C’s. He is an upgrade from Daniels and will spell PDouble. I dun’t think The C’s weree as worried about the Heat is you think Eboy (much respect to you) We’ve played them pretty well so far this year. I’ll also miss Nate. I have to marinate on this trade….lol

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

U guys do kno that boston beat Miami easily twice this yr without Perkins. I just wonder will Rivers use same excuse when LA beats them in the finals again this year.

  • JTaylor21

U guys do kno that boston beat LA easily without Perkins.

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

That game in LA was close until the last 5-6 mins. Delonte West will be more valuable and effective than Nate Robinson.

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

Ainge is really rolling the dice here. He’s always gone for risky trades — I hope this one doesn’t backfire, but I’m not holding my breath. The Celtics team I loved so much the last few years now seems lost to history.

  • JTaylor21

Sure if you wanna call losing by 13 at home a close game. Stop it slime!

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

LA will still kill OKC on inside bc Perks is only 6’10 and struggles getting his shot off. Okc still has no go to player in the paint. Celtics get younger and athletic. Really think people are overreacting and overrating Perk.

  • http://Slamonline.com Kap

U Have no valid point due to fact we beat the Celtics when Perk played this season. Miami can’t beat Boston with or without Perk.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Great deal both ways. Jeff Green is too good of a talent to pass up, and he gives the Celtics some much needed youth and athleticism. You can’t help but wonder about the players’ reactions, though. I doubt Durant and Westbrook thought they’d see their buddy traded, and likewise with the Celtics.

  • el_larsen

perk was playing but c’s were pretty shorthanded if you i can remember.only 9 dressed players i think.

  • DeeDre

Hated the trade when i first heard about it but it might be solid. Adding Jeff Green can do nothing but improve the C’s. Young guy versatile, good solid scorer and defender. Definitely will give KG the rest he’ll need for those gruesome playoff games for an older Celtics team. Nice going Boston

  • http://thegrandcompanion@gmail.com GoEast

celtics better get troy murphy or they are screwed

  • allenp

Or ghostface. Ghostface would be better because he defends and murphy doesn’t.

  • MusketeerX

This is a move that the Celts are going to regret. Great news for everyone else. OKC made a great deal.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Hmm, just surprised Delonte with his injury is held in higher esteem than KryptoNate in Boston. Nenad is a battle hardened vet compared to Semih, and Jeff Green trumps Quis production. If Shaq would spend time rehabbing his bothersome right leg instead of jetting to LA to tweet about ASW, this could work.
As for Sheed coming back, better do it soon. Gonna need the last 25 games to get back into the nba groove AND break the quarter-season mark for most technical fouls.

  • cp3nola

is it just me or is boston about to resign perkins in the offseason…danny ainge is a snake!!

  • TR324

I think once Boston gets back to 100% healthy everyone who said this was a dumb move is going to feel stupid. Shaq isnt The Diesel anymore, but he can bully any Center. Howard, Gasol, Bynum all look average against Shaq when he brings his A game

  • bombsquad

    Hello Rasheed and skip..
    Is PJ brown still available…?

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@c_cantrell really did just call this in an older post…gotta crystal ball somewhere fam? cuz this completely blindsided me

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

I don’t begin to understand why this deal was made from Boston’s front…..its seriously befuddling. I’m racking my brains and I’ve got nothing. Maybe they want to run a deeper backcourt, or want to get more transition buckets…I don’t know man, the C’s have been one of the NBA’s smartest teams for the last few years…maybe they are completely thinking 2 steps ahead of me but this just looks stupid from every angle

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

….I got the Knicks coming out of the East now….I’m taking bets too
