Derek Fisher Blames Schedule for Lakers’ Woes

The Bobcats continued their inexplicable domination of the Lakers last night, leaving everyone on the team feeling salty. According to Derek Fisher, the tough road schedule got the best of the squad. From the OC Register: “Lamar Odom sniffed at the four-games-in-five-nights regimen, saying ‘you have to remember how you handled it last time,’ and that ‘you have to trick your mind.’ But Derek Fisher thought weariness was one of the real explanations for the Lakers 109-89 blowout at the hands of the Bobcats in Charlotte, N.C., on Monday. ‘Sometimes the schedule gets the best of you and you can’t bring energy into the game,’ he said. ‘Mentally we couldn’t get engaged in the game. But it’s a man’s game, no excuses.’ Odom and others thought the Lakers had lost their ability to communicate defensively over the past two games.”

    WAAHHH!!!

  • riggs

just like some if not most of their fans, stay making excuses.

  • TSmoove

At least it wasn’t Ron-Ron’s fault

  • MUBWAR

loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool…schedule isn’t hard at all. Wait till March when you play the Cats, Spurs, Hawks, Heat, Mavs(twice) and Magic and we’ll see how hard it really is.

  • youngmuggsy

What does Fish blame for his inability to contribute anything positive for his team this season?

  • Fat Lever

The Spurs and their yearly Rodeo trip would like to have a word with D Fish. Man up. Seems like there’s very little focus in La La Land this year. They might be able to turn it on in the playoffs, but be careful, there are some new pieces on the team that aren’t too accustomed to having the mentality “Title or Bust”.

You don’t need to make excuses when your about to win a 3rd consecutive ring :)

  • Kobe

    F all u Laker haters!!!

  • tomtom

why are my comments not showing???????? i bet this one shows. making me look foolish

  • tomtom

@Kobe ‘f all u laker haters’ THIS IS WHY PEOPLE DONT LIKE LAKERS FANS. Im a lakers fan and have been my whole life but no body is hating here. Its a stupid comment from fish and a poor excuse. Not everyone with something to say that isn’t completely complementary is a ‘hater’ or u may as well call phil jackson a hater.

  • Yesse

Lakers are starting to collapse. Not a good thing. I hope they would atleast make the finals, because the possibility for a championship looks low.

Wait, Wait, Wait… You mean to tell me the team with the fewest back to backs and the same team that had all of what… 5 road games in their first 20, that team is complaining about scheduling? Not like your the magic and have 23 sets of back to backs.

  • Red Star

Fisher is full of it! His game of late reminds me of Oscar the Grouch, garbage! This is the best he could come up with? Are the Lakers the only team to have road trips now? Every team goes though it! When your the 2 time defending champs you figure it out and get the win! End of story!

  • Red Star

Forgot to mention Lakers for Life!!!

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Bulls have the most back to backs this year with 23. Lakers have the least with 15.

Bobcats vs. Lakers…I remember reading somewhere way back when a Stephen Jackson article where he said that basketball is a matchup game…I didn’t get a chance to watch last nights game, but he makes a good point there. Also, I watched some Lakers @ Bobcats games on T.V. a while ago, they all look lathargic…anyways, it’s only a regular season game, don’t put too much into it. Just another team.

He’s talking about 4 games in 5 nights…not about the Laker’s schedule as a whole. Does anyone even read?

  • lexluther703

@Peter, that doesn’t justify anything, cause they’re not the only team in the league that does the 4 games in 5 nights grind. No doubt it’s tough, but dudes need to realize that there’s people out here working 16 hour work days, trying to support families, getting paid squat, and they’re complaining that playing 4 basketball games has them on the brink of exhaustion. No matter how exhausted one’s body might be, you’re still able to play the game you love for an unbelievable salary. Keep it in perspective, Fish

  • robb

I’m a Laker fan and these excuses are lame!

  • First & Foremost

    @Enigmatic – Thanks
I was going off of last year, you know, when SVG made schedule complaining cool. #TrendSetters

  • Bruno

    finally peter!

  • Patrick Camacho

Champions don’t make excuses..come one Fish, you’re better than this.

Get your head in the game and let’s 3-Peat this June!

  • http://sdfklf.com Jukai

I like this. Make an excuse and say “but no excuses!!!!”

  • 32

The Clips have a 11 game road schedule. True, they’re not playing for anything but respectability but quit complaining Fish. Geez!

  • burnt_chicken

i get his point. i don’t even like to have sex four times in five days when on a road trip …unless there are blowouts involved, at which point the number increases exponentially.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

lakers always seem to have trouble with the bobacats…apparently their young athletic guards are hell on the old veteran guards. Somebody told me that today. :/

  • ab40

Yeah the schedule.. That must be it

  • dsleepy

lol at oscar the grouch comment.

  • http://www.slamonline.com peter

@lexluther…you’re still missing the point. How many teams go 5-0 when they play 4 in 5 nights? I haven’t done the research but I wouldn’t guess many.

  • http://www.slamonline.com peter

and, when does he complain about his job? he’s saying mentally its hard to bring it after constant travel and back to back games…I bet a lot of people working 16 hour days find it hard to bring it mentally for every hour too.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Sergio

I liked the NBA better when the fans didn’t have access to every quote. It’s not even the all-star break and everyone here makes assumptions with every loss. The 1992-93 three-peat Bulls where 57-25. We need to relax.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

I usually avoid watching Lakers games cuz simply, I don’t like them.. But excited for next wed (23rd) I’ll be watching them get beat by my Blazers from the lower level. =)

  • http://slamonline.com Fut.

@Peter: Its a straight fact that no team has played 4 games in 5 nights and come out 5-0.

    Fisher needs to nut up.

  • hoodsnake

Didn’t Kobe deal with 5-0 in Colorado?

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    Kobe went unpunished in Colorado.

  • ClydeSays

The Lake Show fattened up on a soft early schedule and now Fish is complaining? Weak.

  • LA Huey

This is legit so long as he credits the easy schedule they had early in the season for their success then.

  • Justin

Before you all start the “stop making excuses” thing, maybe someone should look up what a team’s record is during 4 games in 5 nights stretches. Probably not favourable, especially in the last 3 games. Just sayin’
