Grizzlies, Rockets Discuss Battier/Thabeet Trade

According to the Commercial Appeal, Memphis and Houston had a serious chat about making a deal involving the veteran forward and the young big man: “The Grizzlies had serious discussions Wednesday with the Houston Rockets regarding a proposed deal that would swap second-year center Hasheem Thabeet for forward Shane Battier. A deal would hinge on Memphis’ willingness to also include a future first-round draft pick in its bid to reunite with Battier. The Griz failed in their initial attempt to acquire Battier earlier this year and may try to enlist a third team to avoid sending the Rockets a pick. Battier, who was Memphis’ first draft pick in 2001, played five seasons for the Griz, averaging 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds. He was traded to the Rockets in July 2006 in the deal that brought Rudy Gay to the Grizzlies. Memphis’ 2011 first-round selection — albeit lottery protected — is already owed to the Utah Jazz as compensation in a trade for Ronnie Brewer last season. Griz general manager Chris Wallace wouldn’t confirm nor deny specific trade talks. However, he said the organization doesn’t feel any pressure to make a deal.”

i know they want size, but how about getting some talent with it?

if thabeet had the right mentor, he could end up livin up to that number 2 spot

But… Why? I know we need size.. but.. Why? Daryl Morey is pathetic. I’m tired of hearing how good of a GM he is. He isn’t.

    ^no hes actaully pretty sh*tty

^ditto – giving up core guys (battier, brooks, etc) for thabeet or flynn or anyone who’s not a real name already does absolutely no good and just pisses off the true fans. The Rockets are not a good team, but to think these kind of moves make us better??? Morey just makes moves for the sake of making moves – must be bored…

Yeah, it’s about time we find a new GM. Morey isn’t the worst out there, but he obviously can’t build a consistent championship caliber team.

in his defense, he lost the two franchise cornerstones to injuries. who knows what would have been accomplished with a healthy yao/mcgrady combo? but yeah, he’s average.

you gotta give him some time but I think the real mistake was giving up Rudy Gay for Battier. Battier is a solid glue guy but Rudy is developing his talents well. Yao and McGrady were unfortunate though. Basically he is building from ground zero. Not sure why they abandoned the Aaron Brooks experiment by going with Lowry now. With that said Lowry is pretty decent, so that could be why. Rockets right now is a whole team of good players. No star. and really subpar center cast.

Morey is, overrall, a pretty fantastic GM. This team is as good as it gets, depth-wise–but it was structured around YAO. This roster would have complemented Yao perfectly. There would be no need to make any trades if only Yao were healthy. So chill.

Yao has never been healthy. Building a team around him is silly. @JL , the Rockets put Lowry as a starter because Brooks was hurt for a few weeks back in November, and Lowry played great, and since Brooks has came back, he hasn’t played good, so he has stayed on the bench and since then has been somewhat of a cancer in the locker room, and honestly, I wouldn’t mind seeing him go as long the Rockets get what he’s worth.
