Heat To Target Kendrick Perkins in Offseason

The Heat could certainly use Perkins, but will the Celtics allow him to go to one of their biggest contenders? From Marc Spears: “Kendrick Perkins will be one of 2011′s most coveted free agents. The Heat are one team that will be interested in signing Perkins, according to a source. Given Miami’s anticipated cap situation, they will be limited in the type of offer they can extend to Perkins.”

Perk is far too loyal. If he doesnt stay in Boston I see him going somewhere closer to home, Texas based.
But I cant see him leaving.

There is no way this will happen. The Celtics wouldn’t let it happen, and Perk wouldn’t let it happen. He wants to be a Celtic for life.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

within the next 2-5 years some of these older celtics are gonna start retiring, not sure if Perk (and Rondo) are gonna want to be a part of the rebuilding process.

@BossTerry, that’s what I was thinking. And that’s probably what the Heat’s selling point..

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

I mean that’s probably what the Heat will use as a selling point. Missed a couple of words there.LOL

  • vtrobot

perk just stated the three best feelings he’s ever had. having a child, winning a ring, and feeling the love from boston during the standing O when he recently came back from the injury. he’s not going fuggging anywhere.

  • FireFlame

This would make the heat virtually unbeatable.A true big man

Considering that he used images of Miami’s free agent parade as motivation to work out and rehab, I really don’t think so.

  • http://hibachi20.blogspot.com BETCATS

Perkins will go to the highest bidder, and Miami just doesnt have the money. Anyone who gives Perkins more than 7-9 million (with the current CBA) is overypaying like hell. The Heat cant even get in the ballpark.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Anton, I didn’t know that. As BETCATS said, Miami won’t be able to pay enough.

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

Yeah I saw it in some preseason video where his trainer saw the Heat on TV in the gym and said: “I don’t wanna watch this”. Perkins responded with a mean-mugging: “I do.”

  • Jose

Would be nice but i can’t see Perk doin Bean-town like that

  • bashmo

lol this is a joke. He fiercely enjoys the position he is in, playing with all these hall of famers, being on a legit contender, recieving the love from the fans in Bean-Town…and to top that all off, he`s going to head to a Miami squad that`s not going to offer him as much as he is making now because of the new CBA coming…lool he aint leaving anywhere.

i mean cleaveland was cool with ilguaskas leaving….and if boston starts sucking(with the big 3 retiring). the fans might not care. of course they could also view it as a huge betrayal. but it’s not like he’s going to the lakers!

In other news, The Wolves will be targeting Keith Bogans next summer. Tough loss for the Bulls.

  • ErnieD

who knows what lurks within the heart of the Beast? I doubt it. I could see him going to either San Antonio or Dallas (a contender closer to home) but I doubt the Heat could offer what the C’s would. (A structured deal that would pay him more, once KG’s contract ends.) I think that part of the reason why Perk excels is Doc’s defensive schemes. He and KG are their defensive leaders. Other teams won’t pay top dollar to a guy who has only proven he can defend the post, block a few shots, and get lots of Ts from the refs. He’s still my guy, though.

I don’t see this happening, but you do have to wonder about the future of the Celtics.
In 3 years, Garnett will be 37, Pierce 36 and Allen 38.

  • mike

Is Nick Tha Quick really comparing Bogans’ impact on the Bulls with what Perkins does for the Celtics? Perkins is one of the best defenders in the league.

  • http://zenguu Max

    Not gon happen.

  • BRAVO

miami sucks they need kobe or dwight or durant or rose or williams or rondo or wesbrooke anyone they just suck im sorry

  • greg

they dont suck… theyre not the best team in the L but they dont suck

  • Fat Lever

It’s hilarious that some of you guys think these guys are loyal to a fault to their teams. It all comes down to dollars. Sh!t, a guy on my team pulled a 180 and left a team that thought they had him in the bag(Elton Brand and the Clips). And remember, Ainge was openly willing to trade Rondo a while ago. Don’t think these players don’t remember stuff like that.

  • MikeC.

If NY doesn’t bag Carmelo in an extend-and-trade, they should use their open cap space (pending a similar CBA) to go after Perk and a backup PG. If Perk wants to score more, he’ll have the opportunity in NY. Lots of offensive rebounds to grab and stick back. Amare sure could use some some bigman help.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

I see Perk signing a 2 or 3 year extension with the Celtics then leaving Boston once the three HOF’ers are gone.

  • the Dude

Perkins can do as he damn well pleases.

If going to Miami to continue winning is that decision SoBe it.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

The Heat should just steal every one of Boston’s role players they can get, like they did Eddie House.

  • flimo

When the big three retires, Boston will have Rondo, Big Baby, Perk, and plenty of cap space. Why leave?

  • flipnoyce

Perk won’t leave Boston just yet, he might but not in the next 3 years. Celtics are still a title contenders and one of the favorites in the east so why ruin a good opportunity. After the big 3 contracts end there will be plenty of money to go around and still have RONDO, DAVIS and PERK to rebuild from. I heard the C’s are shopping for an additional body for the post season though, so watch out because they wont stop at nothing, short of title #18!!!

  • the truth

if he gets a long term deal i think he’d go. boston is getting old

  • r2j

Does he want be in Boston after Doc Rivers, Pierce, Allen and Garnett leaves? We don’t know yet. Maybe he’s looking for a better deal in Boston. I just hope he doesn’t join the circus that is the Miami Heat next year.

  • http://eyelovejerseys.blogspot.com bob

I’d love for him to go to Charlotte. We need a big man.

That does sound superior nonetheless i’m still not so certain that I favor it. Nevertheless will look more into it and choose for myself! :)
