Knicks Add Gallinari to Offer for Carmelo Anthony

by Ryne Nelson

With the Nets and Nuggets having reached a “tentative agreement” on a trade, the Knicks have reportedly improved their offer to Denver for Carmelo Anthony.

According to Marc Spears, the Knicks’ offer now includes Danilo Gallinari, Ray Felton, Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry and a first-round pick to be acquired later. The Nuggets would send Carmelo, Chauncey Billups and “fillers.”

The proposed deal would send Gallinari, point guard Raymond Felton, forward Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry’s expiring contract and a first-round pick to the Nuggets for Anthony, point guard Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams.

The Knicks have been reluctant to give up Gallinari, but now appear willing to do so after the Nuggets assembled the framework of a blockbuster trade with the New Jersey Nets in recent days. One league source confirmed a New York Daily News report that Knicks owner Jim Dolan had met with Anthony in Los Angeles.

Dolan “is doing everything he can to get him,” the source said.

The New York Daily News reports that although Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni are not in favor of the trade, Knicks owner James Dolan could execute the deal as soon as today.

Dolan met with Melo on Thursday and the Knicks and Nuggets had a conference call yesterday. Mikhail Prokhorov released statement today stating that he has no plans to meet with Carmelo. Both the NY Times and Newsday report that Carmelo will not sign a contract extension if he is traded to the Nets.

All this is to say it’s likely that Melo will be a Knick before the February 24 deadline.

With All-Star, labor negotiations and the Carmelo Decision, the next 48 hours could be epic!

Yall really gave Isiah too much sh!t. Post Isiah New York has given up first round draft picks, young players like Jordan Hill, as well as all stars like Zach Randolph for nothing good in return, and they are about to trade there second best player without getting a good piece to replace him with. Billups could never run D’Antoni’s system. I had my doubts about Felton after all the slowness Larry Brown forced upon him but he is young and was able to get back to the way he played at Carolina. Billups never was an uptempo guard and it is going to leave a big hole in the Knicks offense.

melo is one of my favourites… the knicks are dumb im they give up felton and gallinari for him and billups… billups is getting old and is not the future of the team

wow dub, are you even reading what you’re typing???
“Amare and Melo are 2 of the top 2 best basketball players in the world.”
And then when you get called out on it you drop this gem-
“Ya there easily top 15/20 basketball players in the world dumb a$$!”
    Fail.

BETCATS: If you had Isiah as your GM, you’d have run him out of the f*cking town yourself with a pitchfork. Every single good draft pick he made was either traded or covered with total sh*t. It doesn’t matter if he sees good talent if he’s immediately going to trade for the exact same player or give that draft pick away.
Everyone who is even remotely glorifying Isiah Thomas needs to check into rehab.

to me personally if denver really wanted to keep melo happy. they would have put a better supporting cast around melo over the yrs. a.i was gd. but nobody gave melo an a.i a fair shot. that duel broke down in yr two. which they played a season an a half 2gether. considering the mini brawl at the garden. who started that fight… nate and j.r but melo finished it. (melo you’ll be forgiven if u come here) then mr. bigshot arrived. he brought better leadership to the team, more defensive mindset considering from the team that traded him.(and 1 thing for the record,it wasnt a.i’s fault completely in mo town) and the billups and melo duel got as far as the western conference finals. Once. all past playoff eliminations was by the hated (well i do and maybe half the basketball world) san antonio spurs :p! melo kept running into the spurs and out the post season melo went. besides biillups, birdman, who has the nuggets really surrounded melo with??? shelden william (mr. candice parker) C’mon son!! al harrington well i like al from the hardwork he put in wit my knicks iin his stay there. but no! affalo noooooo!! i like the other dude that tripped kobe(whats his name?) balkman sheesh, nene has had an up an down career so he gets a pass. kenyon who??? and so on and so on. so like 7 yrs ya had the man an did nothing but get to the wc finals once and 6 1st rnd exists!! very convincing to stay. at least bron got to the finals and ec finals and 2nd rnd. denver is said to be in a financial grip. so loosen the grip and let the man walk. but when u want to gut a team for 5 players. 4 starters a bench warmer and 1st rnd pick. theres only 1 name i can think of denver. ya aka is diddy. denver is diddy. the lox said it best at 1 point. raping me records. and thats what denver is tryna do. ya said the man is ya future. well if he was then like a woman you want to spend your future with. you gotta take care of her right? so denver in carmelo’s case and hopefully yes he comes to NY. so my knicks can shine even brighter. and not go to the nets, lakers, rockets and west bubble… i think i speak for melo and the last 7 yrs of his career with denver. all i can say is in my jayz voice WHERE’S THE LOVE??? come to NY melo and well show u love big bro. at the mecca. u see what we do with a’mare what u think we gonna do with you. sign brother. sign!!!!! peace

I am a huge Knicks fan, and extremely apprehensive of this trade. I would hate to see Felton go, he is truly a talent with a future and I fear the Knicks are giving away too much. At the same time this trade isnt to win a championship this season, its a building block. I just keep telling myself where owuld Jordan have been without Pippen. The role players on those bulls teams were contsantly changing but those two, quality, allstar players, that pushed each other to be better, they made the Bulls the team of the 90′s. Well nuff said, lets nail this trade down, Get Melo and next season destroy Boston, Miami, and Orlando on the way to routing the Lakers. Honestly it woould be foolish for Denver to pass up on the talent being offered here, for what? To keep him, have him not sign and lose him to FA and get nada. MAKE THE DEAL!!!!! Then get CP3

  • http://Slamonline.com Dave

Keep Felton….Billups wants nothing to do with NY, Felton bleeds Orange and Blue. Hes a growing player. He contributes in everyway…Gallo..let him go, Chandler….bye bye. But Keep Felton, hes got those intangibles people. This trade is evil, Thursday needs to come and just get this over. no matter what if he comes to NY hes coming to a gutted Knickerbocker team. Major rebuild, and without that first round pick mind you, just freakin ducky. Lets hold Felton. And the idot that said Billups is way better than felton..cmon. Billups is on NBA’s slippery downslope out of the leage. He doesnt wat to be in NY and his output isnt gonna be there. Felton is a WAY better option for NYK. Use your brain man. Lets just finish this drama

One last comment here my B-ball friends, a suggestion that will most likely be ridiculed, but research it and think it out before slamming it. Why not make an offer to memphis for OJ mayo. Honestly hes got Talent, hes in a bad fit right now and couls be picked up for probably as little as a filler and a 4th rounder. He will benefit from Mike D’s system and he needs out of Memphis, He dont like it and they dont want him. So rather tahn gutting your team lets add a little more talent too. And as much as I truly want Melo in a Knick uniform is anyone else surprised that Chicago hasnt been brought up at all in this. If Chicago picked up a Melo caliber player that would be it, they would be able to compete with any on the best in the east, Im just surprised taht there was actually a tiny amount of Laker talk and no Chicago chatter at all. Imagine that team…I mean Wow….But as a Knick fan lets nail down Melo and pick up a support player like Mayo. Anyone got any ideas on that?

  • Charles

I don’t like Felton involved in this crappy deal. Too much chemistry with amare will wasted.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

If they don’t get CP3 or Deron Williams to go with Melo and Amare, they are screwed if they make this trade. Melo + Amare + Fields + filler is going to get them nowhere.

  • Clydesays

Knicks have to make that deal. They’ll never get past the Celtics, Magic or Heat with Amare/Felton/Gallo.

  • http://Slamonline.com Dave

Well They arent gonna get passed anyone with a two man team….and Billups…he dont even count…..

  • Josh

Solution – Melo says he does not want to go to New Jersey like he is thinking in his head. Nets back off (again) and Knicks then also back off as they no longer need to compete with the Nets. Melo plays it out in Denver, leaves for New York in the summer. I realize Denver would rather get rid of him before they get nothing, but really other than the Nets, who is going to take him?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

If Wilson Chandler goes to the Nuggets, he will average 20+ points a game. He will be a future All-Star. If he stays with the Knicks and gets enough playing time, he would make a GREAT shooting guard alongside Melo.

  • http://Slamonline.com Dave

Cmon how they gonna play bostons big 3 witha big 2? And for that matter a bench thats near non-existant. They need to take control of the negotiations. They need to make it happen, no doubt. But they have to keep Felton….

  • hoodsnake

    So…who’s gonna rebound?

  • Ronald

PG: Billups: SG: Fields SF:Melo PF:Amare C: Mozgov

Not a bad lineup at all. You have a proven leader and clutch shooter in Billups (And, with Melo). A do it all SG who does the little nitty gritty things, and is young with a healthy contract. You have two of the best scorers in the NBA (Passing will be a problem here tho). And a young serviceable big in Mozgov with a energy guy like Turiaf coming off the bench. The biggest problem is losing a guy like Chandler who can score right off the bench.

  • http://www.myspace.com/freedmusic fredd

to give up a team for a two(ego) headed monster … what a shame … enjoy this season and get cp3 and Carmelo next year !

  • http://www.jewelzlopez.com -Mas-

I’d try to keep Raymond. Danilo and Wilson are not elite players at all. The impact that Carmelo is twice as much as both those two combined.
At this point I’m already tired of all the talk. But Azubuke once healthy can score of the bench. Douglas can score of the bench. Williams can score of the bench. Coach only uses a 8 to 9 man rotation. It’s going down either way. I hope the Knicks don’t nix this trade.

HERE is the 3 team DEAL I LIKE THE MOST –> NEW YORK KNICKS: Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Arron Afflalo, Chris “BIRDMAN” Andersen, and Sebastian Telfair. DENVER NUGGETS: Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Timofey Mozgov, Landry Fields, Kelenna Azubuike, and the Wolves 1st rd pick acquired for Randolph. MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES: Eddy Curry, Anthony Randolph, and Roger Mason. This deal works for everyone. In this deal the Knicks get to keep their versatile 6th man Wilson Chandler. Denver unloads Birdman’s contract too. CLICK my name and you’ll see the trade works financially for all 3 teams.

  • RT Firefly

Once again, why trade the entire young, talented cast of the Knicks for a guy who will walk on to the Knicks next year anyway? The best thing that can happen is absolutely nothing. The Nuggets get stuck with Melo. He goes free agent next year and signs onto a “stacked” Knicks team. Melo has made it clear that he will not sign an extension with anyone but the Knicks. Translation for next year: He will sign with the Knicks.

Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free??? (Plus $20M a year :)

  • http://minusthebars.blogspot.com don

Knicks are acting slow. Why offer your young talent in a trade for a player who, chances are, will sign with the Knicks during the offseason?

    Get a clue, Dolan.

  • http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4hx7fts IAMORANGE4EVER

The Knicks didn’t invest in Amar’e to be first round fodder, while the young talent grows.

  • Charlie

If you do not get Melo now, you are rolling your dice for next year.

  • Charlie

Remember the year the Knicks ended up getting nobody but Weatherspoon and started falling. Things change around, not in the way you anticipated.

  • http://slam FLIGHT 9

bad deal for knicks if it its true…. I would rather wait for the season to end or just forget melo. Giving up too much for a one dimensional playa!!!

  • http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=4hx7fts IAMORANGE4EVER

Carmelo is only a one dimensional player in your mind @FLIGHT9. The bottom line is the Knicks as they’re currently constructed are a 500 team and first round fodder. You don’t make a huge investment in Amar’e to be first round fodder. Billups-Melo-Stat as a nucleus can get it done come playoff time.

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

According to that Woj character at yahoo sports James Dolan has reached out and is having Isiah call the shots on this one. I take back what I said earlier. Go read the article for yourselves if you dont believe me…

  • JoeMaMa

@Teddy: if the Knicks just sit tight, let Carmelo play out his season, and then sign him, then you’ve got a team that could possibly contend, depending on how guys play together. Melo, Gallinari, Chandler, Fields? You’ve got shooting, athleticism, rebounding, hustle. Bring DWill/Paul into the mix and you’ve got New York basketball back on top.

  • RT Firefly

No doubt Anthony is more than a one dimensional player, but a Billups-Melo-Stoudemire with no one else is a second round elimination (at best) in the East. Smart move is to wait till next year. Stoudemire is 29 next season and Carmelo will be 28. Both will be in their athletic prime years. Knicks can wait and still have their young talent, plus a free agent and a first rounder.

  • O

I read the only hold up now is that Denver insists that Mozgov be included in the current deal. Now, I know the Russian isn’t going to make or break a team, but come on, we actually NEED this man at Center. Plus, no one knows for sure Billups is going to want to play for us or demand a buyout. Sidenote: I read D-Will wants to play with Stat.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Good point, Joe. But what happens if Melo signs that New Jersey extension?

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

If Melo were more patient he could just refuse New Jersey altogether (which is what I think he’s doing..?) and wait until something happens with New York. But I don’t think he wants to wait till the summer. I have a feeling something WILL go down by trade deadline, for better or worse.

  • skittles05

both NY and Melo are crazy if they go through with this Deal. All Melo has to do is just say no to Jersey and Sign with a fully stacked NY next season. Then if they want to get D will trade Felton + others for him or some other scenario like that if the opportunity prevents itself. Surely as a normal human being Anthony would HAVE to see it is way more beneficial to him if ONLY from a selfish stand point of joining a deeper NY team with a bench as opposed to a gutted Knicks team.

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

I read the article BET and I am now equal parts wary of its validity and depressed about NY’s future should it prove to be true. It’d be a massive green turd in the faces of basketball fans if that turns out to be the case.

  • doyouwantmore

Wow. What a difference a few years make! Carmelo turned into a well-spoken family man with character and integrity. Lebron turned into…er…well…he bought himself an amazing birthday cake.

What about lawson instead of billups him and felton are same player
