Mike Bibby Agrees to Buyout, Sacrifices $6.2 Million

Mike Bibby must’ve wanted to get out of Washington pretty badly, because he agreed to a buyout that’ll cost him every dollar he was set to make next season. Via The Washington Post: “The Wizards have reached a buyout agreement with point guard Mike Bibby, according to two league sources. Bibby’s agent, David Falk, met with Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld on Monday to get the deal finalized. The terms have not been disclosed, but a person with knowledge of the situation said Bibby sacrificed a ‘substantial’ amount of money for his freedom. Another source said that Bibby surrendered the entire $6.2 million he was due next season. A league source said that Falk is currently looking for a possible destination for Bibby. Portland, Miami, Boston, San Antonio, the Los Angeles Lakers and possibly Denver are believed to have interest in the 32-year-old Bibby, whom the Wizards acquired from Atlanta in a trade involving Kirk Hinrich.”

Can he be any good with Miami? I mean, he’s a good PG but can he deliver when the time is right? He has playoff experience as well, maybe that counts!

Mike Bibby really is/was the most underrated PG for a few seasons. I hope he goes to a championship contender. I talked to him in his sophomore season and he’s a cool guy.

  • RunNGun

He’s going to the KNICKS. You can bank on it.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

lol…..are we that bad Michael, give us a chance lmao…..I can’t blame you fam. Can’t put a price on success

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@RunNGun…that looks like the move bro

  • price

miami needs him but are not gonna win it regardless. not this year he should sign a one year with the spurs and sign with miami next year .

  • RunNGun

Black Rick Kamla: Everyone should go to the KNICKS. The ability to play defense is not required. LOL

I cant see him on Portland.. Andre and Mills have those spots taken. Maybe Knicks or is that just a rumor? Thats a good place if he is traded for Kirk to Atlanta. He will produce anywhere he goes. But hopefully he gets put on a team? who knows

crazy im a big bibby fan he better go to a very good championship contender!!! i guess no more wall and bibby either. but the lakers really him and d fish =another laker championship even though the knicks would be tight im there bandwagon!

  • Jake

He’s not going to the knicks, why would they sign him when they already have Billups and Toney Douglas? Denver makes no sense( Ty Lawson and Felton). Portland makes no sense because there is no way in hell they are making it past the second round of the playoffs. That leaves Miami, Boston, LA and San Antonio.

  • RunNGun

JAKE: The Knicks because they want everybody regardless if they already have a servicable starter or all-star at any position. KNICKS > all lmfao

  • http://jayemmbee23.tumblr.com Clutch Performer

boston right behind rondo, because he would be a better option than delonte “im injured” west

  • Eric Ruggles

If he goes to the Lakers I will kick him in the balls.
Even after the ’02 WCF? Wow…

    I agree with Jake.
NY, Portlant, and Denver already have their 2 solid PG’s.
San Antonio has Parker (recently injured of course), and George Hill. So I doubt Greg Popovich is wanting to mess with Chemistry.
Boston is looking to sign Troy Murphy, among other PF/C’s

He’s probably going to Miami. They need a solid PG. So I wouldn’t put Miami out of the picture.

  • RunNGun

In all seriousness, I’d rather have BIBBY than TONEY (he sucks) DOUGLAS. BIBBY to the KNICKS makes the most sense.

  • Overtime

Cmon Mitch, make this happen, get him to LA

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

ROFL @ RunNGun. Toney Douglas sucks? Wow… Please watch some basketball.

  • http://slamonline.com Fut.

That ish is not happening after the 2002. Bibby needs to have some dignity and brush the Lakers off if they come knocking.

  • Exist4eva

Bibby to boston to back up Rondo…i can see that happenng

  • http://slamonline.com rudy

i think bibby in miami would be perfect. He shoots an insane percentage from the 3. Plus he is pretty clutch. Something that most of the Heat players obviously aren’t.

  • Riggs

    bibby officially to miami.

  • g

he’s already in Miami def a good look and trou murphy is headed to South Beach as well

  • takashi

now all the heat need to do is get corey brewer…

  • Groves

miami need a PG who can play a lick of defense though, a point whocan hit the threeAND defend, they don’t need a playmaker, if toney douglas can hit threes miami should sign bibby the do a trade with the knicks for douglas

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

No offense RunNGun. Toney Douglas is a good player, dude.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

Bibby can still hit big shots, but it should concern anyone who gets him that the Hawks are leaps and bounds better ever since getting rid of him. And it’s not like Kirk Hinrich has dominated in ATL so far either.

  • asgf

No as far as MIA cuz wade and arroys the back up pg have GOOD 3 PT % And the back up has a contract and they dont have money for antoher more then decent player. LA is a no. BOS is a possibly. Super small chance of spurs cuz but they should not take another player thats so plus in age and they may be aware of that. Ports full and yea…

  • asgf

    by money i ment cap

  • Omnixyience

    LOL!
Miami dick suckers are just desperate
getting players to join the Heat.
Seems the Heatles big 3 can’t do it all yea?!
    What just happened!?

  • http://www.dingle.com doyouwantmore

SLAM do you realize that Mike Bibby has zero covers, zero articles, and almost zero press in your magazine since being drafted? And in that time you ran Steve Francis covers, articles, and web articles, even POST-RETIREMENT. You guys did Mike dirty.

  • MusketeerX

I thought it was already said that he was heading to Miami?

  • Fab-5 Elite

Im not a Miami fan… but I heard today after the Bulls & Wizards game that Miami is looking to sign him. They said that Chalmers has been struggling and Bibby might be the temporary answer to their problems at the PG. All he has to do is stay in the perimeter and knock down them 3′s with Lebron & Wade driving to the basket all the time.

  • rob

THE SPURS JUST LOST TONY PARKER FOR 4 WEEKS. THE SPURS NEED HIM MORE THAN ANY OTHER CONTENDER RIGHT NOW

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Yeah for sure Mike Bibby is one of the most underrated players of the last 10 years. Without a doubt.

  • PapaBearATL

I’m just glad he’s not in Atlanta anymore, if someone is looking for a pg that makes bad decisions and used to be a clutch 3pt guy and is probably the slowest pg in the league with zero defensive skills… Bibby is your guy!

  • dude23

Miami really needs Bibby???? Can any of you imagine him trying to guard Rondo or D.Rose in the conference Finals? At least Mario Chalmers is somewhat athletic…. Rondo would def pick the Miami heat defense apart with Bibby guarding him….

  • dsleepy

i think he’d be a good fit in boston, delonte is more of a 2guard anyway

  • Jahi

Wow! Bibby gave up $6.2 million to join the Heat with a lockout possibly on the horizon next season? He is realling banking on the Heat winning a championship this season, but there is no guarantee that the Heat will win a championship within 3 seasons, let alone this year. I hope his decision works out for him, as he is nearing retirement age, and he may live to miss that $6.2 million. I wonder how many owners would be willing to give up a years worth of income and profits?
