UPDATE: Paul Silas Receives 1-Year Extension

UPDATE: Silas will remain the head coach in Charlotte for at least one more year, reports the Observer: “Paul Silas says he’s fine with the one-year contract extension he received this week from the Bobcats, which will take him through the end of next season, going so far as to call it a blessing. Does that mean Silas will step aside after next season? That probably depends on a variety of factors. He’ll be nearly 70 years old then and may not want to coach beyond that. Silas said today his health is good and he’s having a blast but it’s taken some time to get accustomed to the grind after being away for five years, spending a portion of it looking at the water from his house on Lake Norman.”

It seems as though Charlotte wants Paul Silas to stick around beyond this season, and with good reason. From the Observer: “It makes sense that the Bobcats and Paul Silas are discussing a contract extension. Since taking over for Larry Brown on Dec. 22, Silas has done a masterful job of reshaping the Bobcats into a freer, more efficient team that has a reasonable chance of making its second straight playoff appearance. That possibility was a long way off in mid-December when the Bobcats were losing by 33 to the Washington Wizards. During his retirement at Lake Norman after his coaching stint in Cleveland ended, Silas paid close attention to the Bobcats and when the call came asking him to fix them, he had an immediate impact … At 67, Silas doesn’t figure to be a long-term coach but he fits what the Bobcats need now. Perhaps down the road, Silas’s son, Stephen, could follow his father into the job. For the time being, Paul Silas isn’t going anywhere.”

I hope he sticks around. I thought he should’ve stuck around in Cleveland. Not like Mike Brown was any better.

Paul is good, but Stephen Silas ftw. He is the person who developed Golden State’s backcourt and it is no coincidence that DJ, Shaun Livingston, and Gerald Henderson are all doing so good right now.

Living in NC, Paul is an outstanding coach, but to me the Bobcats need a coach who can coach for the next ten years if successful. Franchise needs some stability, especially as coach/leader. I think Mike Brown would be a great candidate for the job. He is defensive minded and sat under Pop(Spurs coach) for a while. MJ get Mike Brown WHO MIKE BROWN!!!
