Post Up: DRose Goes Off

Bulls down Spurs in Chi-Town; Mavs defeat Suns.

by Adam Figman | @afigman

Chicago 109, San Antonio 99

With chants of “MVP! MVP!” raining down from all angles, Derrick Rose did everything in his power to live up to those words, scoring 42 points and leading the Bulls over the League-best Spurs at home. DRose did it all: got to the hole at will, distributed the ball (8 dimes), provided efficiency from the line (6-6), and, most importantly, converted big bucket after big bucket as Chicago earned the W. The Bulls shot 53.8 percent from the field, and onlookers learned what it takes to beat the Spurs: an MVP-like performance from a superstar and a well-rounded, super-efficient effort from the role players. That too much to ask, everyone else?

Dallas 112, Phoenix 106

This matchup might’ve been a lot more entertaining over most of the last half-decade than it was yesterday, but these two still battled back-and-forth and provided some solid Thursday night, pre-All-Star fodder. The Mavs held onto a single-digit lead in the final few minutes, snatching the win and upping their record to 40-16. Dirk Nowitzki, apparently inspired by Derrick Rose, also put up an MVP-caliber performance, dropping 35 points (though he grabbed only 1 rebound), as Dallas picked up its third straight victory and will take some positive momentum into the break. For the Suns, Steve Nash had 15 points and 14 dimes, and I ask you, SLAM Fam: What do the Suns do with Stevie? Is he really worth holding onto, over trading him out for some youth/Draft picks and just re-building already?

Last Call: No wild highlights from last night, so I’ll wrap this up with the following: Trust me, you’re gonna want to stay around these parts for the next few days. We’ll have recaps of all the best events, live-blogs of the games/competitions each night, plus much, much more. See y’all next week.

Guys, Kap is actually a pretty intelligent poster, there’s no need for petty insults.
That being said, he’s dead wrong. But still.

The Nets and Nuggets have “tentatively” agreed to a deal “The Nets would get [Carmelo] Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Melvin Ely and Renaldo Balkman. In turn, the Nets would send Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh and four first-round picks to the Nuggets.” If Melo agrees to sign an extension, this is the deal the Nuggets want to do

first time I watch a full game of Rose in this season and damnnn parker couldnt do anything to stop him

  • JTaylor21

Damn, isn’t 4 first round picks a little too much?

  • http://twitter.com/smileyoufckers Bryan

That makes the Nets, at best 8th seed NEXT season.

Phew! Now that I got that out of my system –
How bout that Bulls game last night? I expect big things from them when they get Noah back.
I have to admit I didn’t know much about Gary Neal, but after last night I was just salivating at the thought of the dude in a Bulls uniform.
Then again, these days I salivate at the thought of any shooting guard who can actually shoot being in a Bulls uniform.

Enigmatic is a bulls fan through and through, but its hard for me to believe that was even him.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

@JTaylor, that’s what I said, the Nuggets getting a grip for Melo, if Derrick Favors turns into what he’s supposed to they may “win” this trade

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

nbk, I’m probably the most logical-thinking Bulls fan on here, but after a performance like last night’s by Rose, I had to let my inner “ignorant Rose d*ck-rider” come out, just for a breif apperance.
Logical Enigmatic is back now, I promise.
@Jahmai – I wouldn’t be so optimistic about a Bulls-Knicks postseason showdown until the Bulls prove they can actually beat the Knicks.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

So they Nets would basically get Melo and a bunch of scrubs?
I’m not even including Billups in there because IMO there’s no way he re-signs with NJ after the season.

@JT — Let’s cool it with the A-rod bashing. One player can’t take an average team anywhere in baseball. You only get 4-5 at-bats a game. So calm down. The comparison is invalid.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

And A-rod never took over games in the playoffs? He carried the Yankees in their last World Series Championship, you know that, right? If the only knowledge you know about a sport is misguided popular opinion, you shouldn’t reference said sport.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Enigmatic – lmao that’s fair man, I knew you were normally even keeled about the Bulls, but that right there, after Rose went bonanza, that’s fine. And yeah idk what NJ is doing with even offering or bringing that up, Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy’s contract, 1 pick and devin harris is better then anything the Knicks can offer, so I don’t understand the need to include 3 more picks

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

So what if Favors is not better than Stromile Swift or Chris Wilcox?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

To put it bluntly, Derrick Favors has more physical tools then either of those guys, the physicality and athletic ability comparable to Amar’e Stoudemire. He could end up to be a bust, but from a physical/talent standpoint he will be IMO somewhere between Emeka Okafor and a lesser Dwight Howard. He is only like 19

NBK: I say a Hakim Warrick who can defend. I don’t see it in the kid, too unpolished even for a 19-year-old.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Derrick Favors – 6’10 250LBs ….. Hakim Warrick – 6’9 220Lbs…. If hakim warrick put on 30 pounds of muscle then yeah, but that’s like saying if Stromile Swift put on muscle. Swift and Warrick are soooooooooo alike, Derrick Favors will beyond a shadow of a doubt (barring injury ofcourse) have a better career then any of those three, Warrick Swift Wilcox

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Yeah, I don’t see much for Favors either.
Gani Lawal straight up outplayed him at G Tech.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

also Favors is averaging more rebounds per game then Warrick has at any point in his career and he isn’t even playing 20 minutes a night

Kinda funny how there’s a lot less comments in the Post Up when it’s not accessible (sp?) from the home page.
