Report: Carmelo Anthony Officially Traded to New York Knicks

Looks like the Melodrama is finally coming to an end. The Denver Post has the story: “The Carmelo Anthony trade saga is finally over. The Nuggets traded Melo to the New York Knicks tonight, a league source said. Denver gets Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, the Knicks 2014 first-round draft pick, the Warriors’ 2012 second-round pick, the Warriors’ 2013 second-round pick and $3 million in cash. Anthony will go to New York, along with Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman. Anthony was not at the Nuggets’ practice as the team resumed workouts following the All-Star break.”

this was a bad idea for ny. props to denver though.

yeah chauncey couldn’t really get the nuggets to play great defense…the knicks will be terrible defensively. Plus you had a great developing pg that you traded for one that’s DEFINITELY leaving so you could gamble on somebody else..not necessairly a good decision .and melo and stat are both kinda ballhogs, just they’re personality combination is gonna be weird.

  • http://nba-point-forward.si.com/ datkid

and yes he will get boooed….which isn’t necessairly fair bc he helped his team out a lot more than lebron did.

  • Scott Carter

Hmm, I think how Melo and Amare coexist will have to be seen first. I think they’ll be ok, but it’s an interesting point. As for Denver, I definitly like what they got. And people don’t forget, WE STILL GOT THREE DAYS TILL THE TRADE DEADLINE ENDS!!! In other words, we may see a looooot more deals before its all over.

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

How long before the Knicks sack Antoni? Two years? Three? Not a chance the Knicks will win a championship with his coaching.

Michael NZ: Sympathies for you and your countrymen on this sad day, man.
At the end of the day, Bball is just a sport we discuss about in here and Slamonline still is THE place to get interesting opinions but an Earthquake, damn.

Hey, has nobody thought of who Blake will dunk on now Galli and Timofey are gone?

  • http://www.slamonline.com melvin ely

This has Isiah Thomas’ grabby hands all over this, y’all are deluding urselves if you think otherwise.

  • http://bedotwater.bandcamp.com BE.water

^He’ll still dunk on them, they will just have different color jerseys on.

  • Leonel

Expect a rash of trades now that this is over.

  • http://www.imdb.com TheBigL

Please let people calm their expectations and let Maeloman do well. MSG usually makes opponents better it seems.

  • Mike From Spain

Knicks should get next year a center who can run (is D Howard good playing uptempo?) and Ricky Rubio on a rookie salary :-) His speciality is the fast break.

  • whooo!

Knicks aren’t better than Atlanta or Orlando, which is why I find the “contender” talks absolutely hilarious. It’s still good for them because of the hype and excitement it creates, as well as the playoff buzz and a TON of money to be made off it. They’ll be fun to watch in D’Antoni’s no-defense system, but I just don’t feel the championship hype is fair because they’ll be ragged on when they fail to win a ring, when in reality that’s not what should be expected of this team.

The Knicks had no rebounding and their D, though shoddy, depended on those young guys and mostly quick hands and legs. That was before the trade. Now they still have no rebounding, even less D, no true big guy, a 34 year old point guard that doesn’t run and a small forward who needs to have the ball exclusively to score his 25. The Knicks also lost a ton of very good outside shooters.
Me thinks there is a very good chance of not even making the playoffs.

On the other hand, it’ll be exciting to see how this works out.

  • el_larsen

melo?he shoots the ball well.no defense.
dantoni ‘s teams shine ,make fun ballgame but never wins title.
offense and melo sell jerseys, but defense wins trophys.

  • el_larsen

What about chauncy?he said he loves the city of denver so much he ‘d buyout if traded!!lol
now in big apple, sure he ‘ll forget that sentence

  • el_larsen

good job by the nets owner!
their last offer forced the knicks to give away gallo AND mozgov!lol

  • http://slam FLIGHT 9

expect Melo to score 35 ppg…. Gonna love the D antoni system… NO Defense just outscore Amare not ur opponets…hahahahahah

  • Yann Blavec

Basketball is back in New-York City my friends.

  • Coney Islander

Over analyze this one all you guys want, I’m gonna go buy tickets on my lunch break!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Myles Brown

Corey Brewer can spread the floor and shoot the J?! LOLZ.

  • http://www.walshsportsblog.com Darren

dont mind losing Chandler and Galla, shame about Felton but the system always makes PG’s look better anyway. Couldn’t pass up a deal for a legit top player. It’s the next step towards a championship-a few more steps to go.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

YEAH! THROW YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR KNICKAS! It was a GREAT DAY for the Knicks franchise! Carmelo Kiyan Anthony…the PRODIGAL SON has returned to the MECCA of BASKETBALL! I lookin’ forward to Melo, Smooth, and Stat to start clickin! Yes, I see all you Knick haters chirpin! I don’t mean to rain on your on your hatorade parade but I must say…I CAN’T WAIT for my Knicks to KNOCK OUT an/your overconfident team in the first round! To all my real Knickas out there join me, and lean back, lean back, lean back, lean back! LOL!

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

The ORANGE beat Villanova and the Knicks got Carmelo…IT WAS A MOTHER FACKIN GOOD DAY!

  • Charles

Yay Melo got what he wanted….

  • Zabba

Why did Melo want to leave? This is totally news to me.

  • Fat Lever

@Bashmo, can you read? No, seriously. Direct quote: “@ Teddy, not top 5, but I’ll take him over Melo.”.

  • Max

I applaud myself for reading this.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

NY isn’t built to win right away, but with all the draft picks they got in this deal and Melo and Stat to build around they have a VERY bright future. Along with that, NY is one of the most highly coveted basketball locations in the league, so they could convince almost anyone to sign there. They’re a 45-50 win team as is, and they have a very good chance to improve over the next several years.

  • el_larsen

expect melo and the knicks to never win a ring!!
    ddddeeeeeeeffffeeeeeesssssse

  • RunNGun

Great deal for the Nuggets (rebuilding won’t take too long) and Wolves (needs a guy like Randolph, will waive Curry). So-so for the Knicks. Knicks, IMO, gave up too much for Melo. Like Miami, their bench is spread too thin. Bring on the D-Will/CP3 circus in the offseason… it never ends.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

Corey Brewer, Landry Fields, Ronny Turiaf, Shelden Williams…those 4 guys alone in any rotation could play just as good or better defense than the former squad. Then you have to think that Carmelo is actually motivated to play basketball….c’mon son this is such a win for the Knicks its not even funny

  • Reggie Miller

I think Carmelo made a mistake. Instead of the ditching Denver, you need to build roots. Look at me. Even though I never won a chip I was the franchise guy. The best pacer ever. And still no hall of fame!!?? Sigh always a bridesmaid never a bride. YEA BOI!

  • RunNGun

Wayno: Knicks didn’t get any draft picks. They gave up their 2014 first rounder, and 2012+2013 second rounders (from GSW). They don’t own any picks for the next few years.

  • holiday

Wayno, Denver got all the draft picks FYI!

  • holiday

Personally I think the Knicks need a new coach now, these players and that system won’t work. D’antoni is a good coach, but I don’t think this all fits!

  • bakers’-dozen

Billups will be more loved in NYC than Melo will be. When he walks after this year (or earlier), you’ll be kicking yourselves. He’s better than people think. When you see him in person, he’s just amazing…

  • Riggs

felton and billups contract ends at the same time folks. So basically what some of you are saying is that felton > billups which would be fine had felton not fallen off recently.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

The Knicks ought to have Bernard King introduce Carmelo Anthony on Knicks Legends Night this Wednesday, when he comes out in that #30 jersey at THE WORLD’S MOST FAMOUS ARENA!

  • http://slamonline.com rudy

I just don’t like the idea of trying to build a whole new team in the middle of the season.

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

@Rudy, me neither but I guess they felt the pressure to do so. If anyone thinks this Knicks team has a chance to make any noise in the playoffs, I have an Island to sell you. But the building blocks are there, question marks, too. But when is the last time a Knicks team had this much hope?

  • matthew

    Gall0 + Mozgov for Bargnani and miami’s 1st rounder.

  • matthew

or Gallo straight up for Bargnani (other pieces would be needed obviously)

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

man all the knick crazy’s were bad enough when just Amar’e was playing well. Now ya’ll not gonna shut up scoring 110 and givin up 105 a game, atleast these offensive heavy players are playing for an offense heavy coach

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Billups only has $3 million guaranteed next year.

  • http://brimartin13@gmail.com Brion

Scary first round team to meet in the playoffs….

  • Thegfunk

Can’t wait to see Billups runnin the point in madison square baby! Whats buisness without risks!

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

Can U people tell me what exactly makes Durant a better defender than Melo? where are u people getting this from? Cuz there is not one moment in which i have came away thinking, hey, KD can play D…. especially when he faces Melo

  • http://google J-Ro

Will Billups really be a good pick up for them? Considering his age? I’m guessing they’re going to use him until CP3/D-Will become available then bye-bye Chauncey.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Kevin Durant has a net positive impact on his teams defense. Melo has the opposite effect.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

My bad, brain fart. No picks for NY. They still have some cash to spend don’t they?
