Rockets Want to Host 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend

Houston is pushing hard to have one of the League’s marquee events return to their city. The Rockets last hosted All-Star Weekend in 2006. The Chronicle reports: “Rockets CEO Tad Brown often has said that the team has pursued hosting another All-Star Weekend since the 2006 event was held in Houston, but he said Tuesday that he was more confident than ever that the franchise and the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau could land another game and the associated festivities. ‘Since last All-Star Game, we’ve submitted to the league a proposal to host the All-Star Game again,’ he said. ‘We’re under consideration for 2014. We’re hopeful, but the NBA has not made any determinations. There are a number of cities bidding for the same thing. We’re working with the city and the sports authority to try to get the game.’ In a report by KRIV-TV, Brown said it could take until the end of the year for the NBA to reach a decision. ‘We’ve been talking to the league since the last All-Star Game here about getting another,’ Brown said. ‘We submitted it almost a year ago. We’ve been talking to the league about All-Star Games coming up literally since the game finished up here in ’06. And ’14 was the first one that opened up with dates that worked for the city as well as for us.’”

This is no big deal. Houston has done it before. We have had the all-star game, super bowl, and this year the mens final 4. Houston is a huge multi-cultural city. Anything you could ever want or need is in Houston, Texas. Yes the Rockets suck real bad, but the city is absolutely amazing. I think many have no clue what to expect when coming to Houston or Texas for that matter.

I think it’s time for Boston to get the All-Star game if LA has had it twice in less than 10 years and I have no idea the last time Boston held a All-Star game.

@Lance, completely agree man. Visited very briefly once. Its funny how misconceptions are developed. Houston is probably the greatest city in the South….and I was born and raised in Atlanta

Sounds like a plan to me. I’ll definitely be attending. I missed the one in 2006, but I at least met Chauncey Billups at the mall.

I would love for the A.S.G. to come to Portland.. I had read somewhere years ago that the reason its never been hosted here is because of lack of hotels (for media, fans, outta towners) which is b.s. Even if all the rooms right next to the Rose Garden fill, there is plenty of hotels by the airport and surrounding towns/cities.

The ASG needs to be in Chicago and New York in the near future.
I understand the NBA likes it to be held in warm-weather cities every year but COME ON, we’re talking about two of the three biggest cities in the country, and the last time NY hosted it was in 1998, the last time Chi hosted it was in 1988!
Meanwhile, cities from the states of Texas and California have hosted it seven times since Chicago last hosted it.

Off topic, but isn’t Houston the fattest city in the US?

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

^ I’ve heard that before.. Heard the same thing about Philly too.. Eddy Curry and Glen Davis are not allowed to play for these cities.

  • BMW

OKC is up there as far as fattest cities

  • Nigel

They need to spread this around more.

  • Bullsfan

Ya bring it to T Dot. They have some of the best and biggest NBA fans around and they might actually have a couple of all stars by then. Ed Davis . Derozan. Hopefully Bragnanny fks off back to Italy by then to.
