Tim Duncan to Start in the All-Star Game

To the surprise of precisely no one, Gregg Popovich tabbed Duncan over Pau Gasol to start in Sunday’s big game. He then wiped his hands off, because his work for the weekend is done. From the Express-News: “Spurs coach Gregg Popovich vows he is ‘not going to coach a lick’ once he gets to Los Angeles for Sunday’s All-Star Game. On Thursday, he made the one and only significant decision he’ll have to make on the Western Conference squad. Given the prerogative of choosing an injury replacement for Houston’s Yao Ming as starting center, Popovich has opted to go with a name he’s been writing into his starting lineup for 13-plus seasons: Tim Duncan. By earning the nod over L.A. hometown favorite Pau Gasol, Duncan will extend his streak of All-Star starts to 12 consecutive seasons by technicality. ‘I think it’s totally appropriate and obvious he should be the starter,’ Popovich said before the Spurs’ 109-99 loss to Chicago. ‘I don’t have any problem with it.’ Apparently, Duncan will have no problem being called a center, and not a power forward, in this particular instance … Duncan called the starting bid ‘a great honor.’ ‘I didn’t expect to be there this year, and I definitely didn’t expect to start,’ Duncan said. ‘Year in and year out, I continue to be on the starting squad. I don’t know why I’m there.’”

Come on Duncan, you know you’re great. Most coaches and owners would still pick you over Mr. Gasol.

TD over Pau in LA? Really?

Duncan you continue to start the last few seasons is because of two names Manu and Parker. They have made your life easier for a while now and you are slowing down, but they continue to be consistent. Too bad Parker did not get invited and now Duncan is starting. Hopefully Gasol takes this to heart and gets his Black Swan on the remainder of the season.

That’s bs! Come on the fans voted gasol over Duncan . Friggin’ popovich.

That should have been Lamarcus Aldridge!

  • Fat Lever

Might be the last time we see Timmy in the ASG, so no big deal to me.

  • greg

who is greg, and why is he showing up on my account?

Duncan doesn’t know what he is doing there. Neither do I. Duncan shouldn’t be in the All Star this year in first place. GPop must be proud to make the stupid choice.

  • Epsilon Nupe

not mad about this at all, still would have been nice to see Lamar Odem on the team, buts its hard to put him over anybody already selected or even Lamarcus Aldridge who was snubbed.

  • Omnixyience

Pop plans to start TD, but he’ll
only play him for about 15min of the game.
And rest him so that he will avoid injury.
    Very Wise…

  • Mack

so…. Duncan is starting, even though Gasol is having a better season… and yet Aldridge should be ahead of BOTH of them…and MONTA MISSED IT AGAIN??? this is messed up!!

TD will start, play until the first TO, and then enjoy the rest of the game from the bench. Pop’s no fool, y’all.

  • youngmuggsy

Given the look of complete disinterest on most players faces during these allstar games, I don’t think players are all that bothered about starting the game.

  • whooo!

I just gotta say, everyone rags on Kobe for not letting the offense run trough Gasol/Bynum in the post, saying he’s selfish while shooting poorly. Duncan does the opposite, cruises, and gets an awesome wjnning record, but ppl question his skills. Both these dudes will turn it up in the playoffs, but with how much criticism you get for being a team player, should you really be surprised if Kobe asserts himself as thefocal point on offense?

  • Pugz

wow…. really? thats not a biased opinion at all…

  • http://http//portlandfan1203.blogspot.com Karley

Thats pretty gay.. Duncan shouldnt even be on the team. Lamarcus Aldridge should be and everybody knows it. Biggest snub of all time…

  • Mr. Wet

Best record in the league. Of course he should start him. Not a spurs fan, just making points.

  • underdog

    C’mon people, you don’t pick a Pau Gasol over a HOF player…
