Would Memphis Send Zach Randolph to Orlando?

The Magic are in desperate need of frontcourt help, and the Grizzlies may not be able to afford Z-Bo once he becomes a free agent over the summer. So, the media is naturally in full speculation mode. ESPN takes a look: “The three Griz names we’re hearing the most are O.J. Mayo, Hasheem Thabeet and, to a lesser extent, Zach Randolph. But with Memphis poised to overtake the now-depleted Nuggets (and possibly the Jazz) as the seventh or eighth seed in the West, it may now be hesitant to make a deal. One interesting tidbit from a source in Memphis: Last week Sam Smith of Bulls.com floated a potential Randolph-to-Magic deal. While it’s unclear if it was actually proposed, I was told that, internally, the Grizzlies have discussed sending Randolph to Orlando for Brandon Bass and Jason Richardson. The thinking in Memphis is that the deal would keep the Grizzlies competitive this season while also giving them a young power forward for the future. Randolph is an unrestricted free agent this summer and it isn’t clear if the Grizzlies can afford to keep him, while Bass is due $4 million next season and has a $4 million player option in 2012-13. If the Grizzlies or Magic make the offer — still a big if at this point — would the Magic bite? Smith’s report cited Magic interest, but from what I can gather, Orlando has never made an offer.”

Can’t see why the Grizz would do this. Z-Bo has been brilliant for them in a season and a half. And they got a good shot making the playlets right now.

If they are serious about winning then they do not trade Zach Randolph for Brandon Bass.

If they can’t afford to keep Randolph, I guess that means they can’t afford to keep Randolph and Gasol. If this trade doesn’t go down, maybe Donnie Walsh’s plan to get Marc Gasol isn’t so far-fetched.

Zach Randolph has helped Memphis more than they realized. This trade would definitly hurt their playoff chances more than help…

And also, having Mayo and J-Rich on the court together just sounds like a wash. They both pretty much just sit there and take 3′s.

  • Stepfan

    Memphis better not do this.

  • Will Lee

Don’t think it works. They need to let go oj mayo instead. They already wasted money on Conley. Stupid move.

Is Mayo a better defender than Jrich?

If Memphis is trading ZBo, the Thunder need to be making some calls. Pronto.

  • martey

Z-Bo: thr nbas most talented stepchild

  • http://google c_cantrell

this would be completely stupid but co-sign Allenp on the thunder.. he is exactly what they need

  • Riggs

    Co-sign Allen

no thank you ZBO, stay away please

  • Overtime

Foolish move by the Grizz? They dont have enough guards?

The Bulls have supplanted the Magic as one of the top 3 teams in the East.
If the Magic were to get Z-Bo though…that number 3 spot would definitely be up for grabs again.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Zbo and Dwight would be ridiculous.
If SVG decided to actually scrap that ridiculous perimeter based offense.
    That’s a big “if.”

pau, z-bo….stop giving away 20/10 big men for peanuts! holy crap if you pull this trade you deserve a slap in the face. z-bo gets you more value than a rental sg and BRANDON BASS?! Bass is a decent player, i’ll give you, but the sheer difference in TALENT…C’MOOOON MAAAAAN…

  • Ses

If this trade goes down, Mayo is gonna be shipped out. Memphis wants to get rid of him and J Rich would be a good replacement. The Bulls just free’d up some cap room and got an additional Draft pick (For James Johnson) so they might try to deal a SG (Bogans) and Draft picks for Mayo.

Either way its a win/win for both teams, Memphis would have no need for Mayo, slim there cap room and get draft picks – the Bulls would upgrade at SG

  • All Day

The Grizzlies traded Pau Gasol to the Lakers for a Kia and $2000, so trading Z-Bo to Orlando is not out of the question…that’s how the Grizzlies roll!

  • Turk

Right now a healthy Grizz can beat any western conference team in the playoffs, why trade? They need all the help they can get til Rudy gets back. Maybe trade Mayo for a better 6th man.

  • robz

    trade gilbert arenas

  • Allenp

    Turk is apparently high.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

They probably won’t make the playoffs if this goes through.

  • http://google J-Ro

I thought the Magic’s troubles were on defense? how does this trade help?

  • http://www.google.com/news BETCATS

hahaha Turk’s comment was so stupid it made Allenp turn gray.

  • Shem

Did Turk just say a healthy Memphis team can beat any western conference team in the playoffs..

  • Reggie Miller

I want my 3 point record back ahhhhhhhh!!!!

^ROTFLMAO @ most of the comments. Thanks gang!

can i change my comment…after watching the magic lose to the kings, something has to be done…im not sure we would lose much by starting JJ if JRich was traded, then Q as the back up SG/SF…and Bass isnt the same player as ZBO…we need something to be done….so again i change my mind and would welcome this trade

  • http://jooo Max

He and Dwight would het 50pts and 30 rebs each game
