Wizards Waive Al Thornton

With a “logjam” at the SF slot, the Wizards apparently have seen enough of the 6-7 swingman: “Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has waived forward Al Thornton after coming to an agreement on a contract buyout. ‘The additions of Rashard Lewis and Mo Evans combined with Josh Howard’s return from injury gave us a logjam at the small forward spot,’ said Grunfeld. ‘Coming to terms on a contract buyout with Al was mutually beneficial, as it allows us to clear space in the rotation and allows him the chance to pursue an opportunity with another team.’”

Man, Al can actually play. The Celtics could have kept Perkins, signed murphy and signed Al. Lol. Dallas should look at Al.

Thornton to the Knicks. Waive BILL (he sucks too) WALKER. Get ‘er done, WALSH (or we’ll send Isiah on a covert operation).

Knicks picked up Derrick Brown. Why? I have no idea. Could it be for his cluth free throw shooting?

Got talent, sure. But dudes bball IQ is -47. He’s been in the League 4 years now. Figure it out.

  • SMIK

AL (or insert name) to the HEAT FTW!… did i do it right?

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com Michael NZ

Sean Marks to the Heat! Or Celtics!

  • allenp

Doesn’t mo evans have a bigger contract? Can’t really eat his deal or shard’s.

    al the black hole thornton

  • Think Tank

Loved him in college, but Michael NZ is right, -47 NBA BBall IQ (but on the Wizards that might be above the average) and dang, Mo Evans took your spot? That’s embarrassing.

Al Thornton has been good when healthy, just hasn’t been healthy enough. He can be as good as anyone in the league at that position, just never given the best chances to show it. He could benefit a team like Utah

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com Michael NZ

@The Black Rick Kamla: As good as anyone at the position? Wtf? 167 career starts says he’s had ample opportunity to prove… and fail.

  • Riggs

    get him to the nets.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@MichaelNZ can’t play good basketball when youre consistently on terrible teams

    @ The Black Rick Kamla
Can he be as good as KD?

  • First & Foremost

Wasn’t he just hit by a car a couple months ago? He can be a backup SF in the league. For the most part he is a bigger Tony Allen but can create his own shot. The Bobcats or Hornets should consider giving him a look, as always the Bulls should look into him too.

  • HeavenCent

@The Black Rick Kamla, isn’t that when you inflate your stats and show off your individual skills, when your on a bad team? How about we just admit that saying “He can be as good as anyone in the league at that position” was just plain stupid.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

@HeavenCent not when your as injured as often as he has been over the last 2-3 years. Now when I say as good as anyone else at the position, I’m obviously not talking about guys like Lebron and KD who are in the select few of all time who could more or less can play whatever position 1-4 they want. Based on what we saw earlier in his career, the total package of athleticism, offensive skill, defense, etc. were as good as any 3 in the game. I’m speaking relative to talent only. Do I think he can join those ranks NOW, probably not, he’s probably lost a step and again sometimes you’ve got to be in the right environment to fulfill your potential and imo he hasn’t

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

bring him to the KNICKS!! after melo amare and billups sub out we have noone to create their own shot

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Dude can score with anyone. Yes, he’s a black hole, but he’s a SF, most of them are black holes. He can get you buckets given consistent minutes and shots. He will never be a “star” but he is a very good player for team a that needs some extra scoring punch, like the Mavs or even the Thunder. In my opinion.

  • Incubo

Celtics should look at him sense they got rid of Marquis Daniels. He’d be a good back-up to PP. And in some cases your basketball IQ can only be shown by the talent that is around you. In Al Thorntons case he really hasn’t played with a superstar to help him develop just a lot of player at his same skill level.
