Avery Johnson Has ‘No Doubt’ Nets Will Re-Sign Deron Williams

DWill’s new head coach is certain (translation: praying) that the star point guard’s future is in a Nets uniform. The Bergen Record has the quotes: “As the Nets hope to run their winning streak to six games, they’ve begun the legwork to keep Deron Williams beyond his current contract and believe they’re ahead in that race. ‘I have no doubt and I’m really, really confident that we’ll be able to re-sign him,’ Nets coach Avery Johnson said after practice Wednesday. Johnson expounded on something he said Tuesday on ESPN Radio after being asked about Williams’ future. ‘What am I supposed to say, I’m leery?’ Johnson said. ‘All signs that I’ve seen and heard are that as we move forward, he’ll be in a Nets’ uniform. Down the road if that changes, I’m not going to be the first person in America or professional sports that [has] had no doubt and it didn’t work.’”

Seeing as how the new arena in brooklyn will be less than 30 min away from where I live, he better be damn sure they can get Deron to sign an extension
