Carlos Arroyo Waived by the Heat

To make room for Mike Bibby, Miami has bid Carlos Arroyo adieu. From the Sun-Sentinel: “For as much as players embraced the impending arrival of playoff-tested point guard Mike Bibby, the cost of that move, the release of former starting point guard Carlos Arroyo, resonated throughout the roster. ‘Any time you lose a teammate, it’s always hard, especially someone who you get to know, you get to be around someone for a couple of years. It’s never easy,’ guard Dwyane Wade said. ‘It’s always bittersweet, especially in this situation with Carlos. He was doing a great job starting, really didn’t do anything wrong to get out of the lineup. It’s very unfortunate. One thing we know we can do is hope that he ends up in a good situation.’ Because Arroyo was released before Tuesday’s 11:59 p.m. deadline for playoff eligibility, he remains eligible for another team’s playoff roster, regardless of when he signs. After starting in his first 42 appearances this season, Arroyo was replaced in that role by former starter Mario Chalmers, seeing limited minutes since, including being held out of 10 of the last 14 games. Now it is Chalmers who could see his minutes evaporate. The Heat went through a similar maneuver in advance of last season’s buyout deadline, when Rafer Alston arrived to claim the starting spot at point guard.”

the hawks should pick up Arroyo..

lool at ioso. But seriously his guy is irrelevant. In the past 2 playoff series, he got abused by Jameer Nelson and Brandon Jennings. And even if he shoot 40% from deep, he is a huge liability on D.

he should return to utah now that sloan is gone. heh.

Yeah people just want to see Arroyo play for sentimental reasons. So glad to see Bibby on a real contender.

Where your comments meant for Bibby cuz he got abused by Nelson and Jennings in the playoffs last year. Bibby is old, slow and sucks on D. He isn’t any better than Arroyo. I think Heat should’ve kept Arroyo, and benched Chalmers. He can’t even hit a freakin layup.

minnesota might need a sixth point guard on their roster. seriously, boston could use him. avery johnson does not need minutes during the playoff push.

Seems harsh I guess. I still think he’s pretty terrible though.

Dude had been living off his 2004 Olympic run for the longest, about damn time

1 day you hot…next day you not

  • the truth

every time there’s an article speculating where someone will go, someone always posts “to the knicks!”

  • heathater

I think Arroyo is average guard that is able to do anything that a coach need, and do it well. The problem is that the Heat offensive is around only three players Wade lebron and Bosh. Maybe he could do a good work coming from bench in New York knicks, Atlanta and maybe Lakers.

That’s really harsh.. They did him dirty.

  • Overtime

I still hold out hope that Mike will make it to the Knicks. Or any team not in Miami

boston as a back up to rondo

  • PRBoy30

Kevin: “Dude had been living off his 2004 Olympic run for the longest, about damn time”—-I know man! worst player in the L. I hate the heat, and even im proud of them for this lol

  • flipnoyce

Miami should of kept Arroyo, Bibby is a wash. He hasn’t been relevant since his days with the Kings. He’s been with the Hawks for some good years and he’s proven nothing!!!!

  • Galagu

good call on the olympic reference… agree…never did much for heat. backup PG was the most he should be used for on a contender…

at least he made to the Olympics…what have you done lately…type a a few sentences under .40″? GREAT job. Congrats nerds.

    Nerd xD

The Heat don’t even need a true point guard. They need someone who plays D and doesn’t turn the ball over. They don’t have a set offense, they iso, play D and run.

Let me tell you guys something!….this guy Carlos Arroyo its an underrated player..when he was starting point guard with the Jazz(same year that Stockton retired)everybody thought that the team would not even reach 10 wins but everyone was surprised on how this guy started hitting game winners, awesome plays and sweet moves with this team…he was loved by the Jazz..he average around 13.5 a game and he played always around 30min a game…he proved that he was a very good player….then he gets traded to the pistons because of differences with Sloan. A pistons team with awesome players and he actually started a couple of games benching Billups..then he gets traded for being a guy with bad attitudes to the Orlando magic and you know what he does to Nelson? Well folks you guessed it! He benches him for almost the entire season playing very good. Then the orlando magic make stupid move in the playoffs..they started Nelson and they got swept..C.Arroyo arrives to miami and the team gives him limitations to his offence!!

My point is that the NBA has limited his true potential!!..bunch of haters!

  • Javier

Listen, Arroyo besides playing in the NBA and the Olympics he also led his team to a championship over seas and the european league is better than the NBA. He needs to go to a team that won’t shut him down on his offense, his stats don’t lie – for the minutes and the money he was getting paid – he did a great job! New York would be a great option for him …
