Carmelo: Knicks May Not Jell Until Next Year

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Despite having had to put up with a horrifically bad team over the last, oh, decade or so, Knicks fans aren’t exactly known for their patience. They demand a winner, and aren’t afraid to express this.

So, I can only imagine the look on their faces when they read this morning when Carmelo Anthony expects the team to get its act together.

Melo, not so unreasonably, believes New York might not fully jell until sometime next season.

The NY Daily News has the quotes:

Amar’e Stoudemire wants the Knicks to play together and Mike D’Antoni wants them to get through this “rough stretch” and firmly believes his offense can work for Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony. But in the wake of the team’s worst first-quarter scoring output in 55 years and a second straight loss to a lottery-bound team, Anthony had a different message. Moments after the Knicks fell to the Milwaukee Bucks, 100-95, Sunday at the Bradley Center, an unsure Anthony said this team may never reach peak performance until next winter.

“For everyone to get 100% on the same page, it might take next season,” Anthony said. “But right now, in this short period of time, we’ve just got to come together as a unit. As far as everybody jelling and the chemistry and clicking to where we want to be at, it’s going to take some time.”

The Knicks are now just one game above .500, having lost two in a row in demoralizing fashion, and slipping in the Eastern Conference standings (they’re now the 7th seed, a half game behind the Philly Sixers.)

Things have not been easy for Melo since he strode heroically into Madison Square Garden, as New York has lost more than it has won with him (with pretty much the exact opposite taking place in Denver, his old home).

It’s understandable that Carmelo Anthony would ask for patience from fans and media. Whether he gets it or not, remains to be seen (hint: highly unlikely.)

    wtf

Way to publicly throw in the towel already Melo. Gotta love the optimism with the playoffs nearly here… Frankly, I think next year is also going to be a lost cause without a center and a new coach. I’ve said it a million times; D’Antoni will not inspire Stat or Melo to play D enough for my Knicks to win. Neither one of them is particularly selfless, so I see this as a potential Stat-Marion part deux. Both want to be the ‘man’ in NY. Neither like to sacrifice stats. We gave up too much for this guy.

  • MUBWAR

boohoo Melo. you left a good team for the knickerbockers. N.y. will swallow you up with those type of comments. Good luck with Mike O’anthony

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Some people can’t handle the truth.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Sorry-a$s squad of non-defense playing bit*hes with the Pringles Man leading them. Choke in the playoffs (if you make it) like you always do.

  • Riggs

if there is anybody, ANYBODY who thinks the knicks actually had a chance to win the title this year, they should be smacked repeatedly. This isn’t “throwing in the towel” its freaking knowing your limitations. They need a better starting 5 (starting with a center) and a bigger bench. Everyone seems to forget that EVERYONE said that the trade isnt for this year but for the next and the future.

I kept tellin cats to wait until the off-season to scoop Melo but no one would listen to me. I love Carmelo, but he really sounds like a crybaby right now.

  • First & Foremost

Otherwise read as: Everyone will adjust to me next year because that is the way I operate.

  • Anthony Dixon

ITS THE TRUTH…. but w.e i wouldnt ov said anything. but least hes being honest……………. if he was smart he would leave . ands go to BROOKLYN AND PLAY WIT DWILL

With prince and dwest comn next year as will THE NETS WILL BE A DYNASTY…………..
WHAT DO YOU STUPID KNICKS FANS GOTTA SAY ABOUT DAT????!!!

  • bull22

YEAH! now they won’t be jelling until next year. LOL, BUMS that dont play defense don’t win championships. funny how every writer got on their bandwagon when carmelo signed with the knicks. even mike d’antoni is telling you delusional knick fans to CHILL! hahahahahahhahahah

  • http://slamonline.com Chester

choke like how lebron chokes in the playoffs every year right eboy? lol

  • MUBWAR

hahahahhahaha at First&Foremost. It’s so Meloish

  • Anthony

Hes telln the truth but uhhh dnt b surprised if melo goes to brooklyn next year and play wit brook lopez.. along wit dwill tprince dwest… do i hear DYNASTY the knicks were bettere without melo… chandler was playing like an allstar and gallanari improved dramtically

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

@ Eboy: Choke? From a Heat fan?!LOL. No one expected the Knicks to be great. Us Knick fans just didn’t expect such atrocious D. Now the Heat, well they are pretty pathetic in their record against teams that matter. That’s me being polite. Three max super-stars playing together the entire season not beating anyone that matters except for ONE elite team? C’mon, you can’t be serious. You can’t choke with low expectations. You can however, consider the Heatles THIRD place finish choking. Hahahah choke on that!

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

    I’m happy for Denver.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    ^LosingdouchebagfanLMAO

  • Anthony

@zoom the knicks cant beat the heat in a seven game series… prolly cant beat the pacers either

  • cramzy

Couple weeks ago Melo was better than Lebron according to ESPN!

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

^^^For some reason Melo rarely loses to Bron. Hell, if a non-D playing Knick team can beat them with Melo during the regular season, they’ll push them to the limit. Besides, the Heat aren’t winning ish this year anyway. Come finals time Bron, Wade, and Chris Beyotch be watching on their couches so this argument is pointless. LOL @ Eboy. Apparently he’s still bitter from the times his wack ass Heat teams were getting bullied in the 90′s.

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

Oh yea, and aren’t you like 50? #lmao@loserolddudeontwitter

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Heat: title in 2006/Knicks: title in 1973. Who’s more relevant, witless? Besides the fact you were probably born after 1993, your opinion matters less than your shi*ty basketball team.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Fortunately, spring break ends today and the morons will stop polluting the site.

  • T-Money

Riggs: What makes absolutely zero sense is, if the goal was not to win it all this year, WHY DIDN’T THEY WAIT UNTIL THIS SUMMER TO SCOOP HIM UP AS A FREE AGENT?! They probably would have let Chandler walk but they’d still have Gallo, Felton and Mozgov.

  • RunNGun

Sorry Melo, but the time to win is NOW; just look at the CELTICS when they got GARNETT, PIERCE, and ALLEN in the same year. Win or GTFO.

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

Which gives you guys how many more titles than us exactly? Alzheimers killing your ability to count? LOL Hey Egirl, why so emotional so early? Andropause must me hell. Hot flashes, mood swings. Sucks to be you!!! :-D . FYI, just becuase some of us aren’t old enough to have grandkids like you, doesn’t mean we’re youngins.

  • MUBWAR

woow mood swing n hot flashes. Uncalled for but still funny. OMG I need a basketball diet

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

So that would just make you stupid then? Got it!

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

the funny thing is, with all the trouble the knicks have, they still beat the Heat… so eboy is in no position to talk

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

@RunNGun: diffrence between those teams is the celtics had a full offseason to prepare, the Heat did too… this team completely changed more than halfway thru the season, noone expects them to win this year

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

They played one game, meloman. And the Heat were playing their worst ball of the season. That’s your title for the season. Enjoy it. It’s the only one you’ll see for another decade or so.

  • http://twitter.com/smileyoufckers Bryan

    The Knicks blow.

  • Anthony

it does not matter because the nets will b better in 5 years

  • http://slamonline Allenp

    T-Money
Because Carmelo punked them. He made them fear that he wouldn’t sign in the summer so he could get the best possible extension now before the new CBA. He wanted his freedom and his money, which is something NONE of his other peers got.
Truth be told, Carmelo pimped the system better than any of the other superstars in the league.

  • irondan21

If these comments from Melo surprise you, your an idiot. No way was this team going to jell with less than 30 games to go in the season.

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

They sure will. We all know Deron is going to re-sign with them. We also know a big superstar is going to sign with the Nets to lead Deron and Lopez. We know how the CBA is going to play out. Yup. We know because Anthony said it. Case closed.

  • Bruno

can’t wait for NY-Miami in the first roung

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Melo: still backpedaling in MSG, i see.
    Old habits die hard.

  • Jamaal.1987

Eboy, chill. Please. You need to just seriously relax, man. f@ck.

  • MUBWAR

Bruno so far its Actually Miami vs 76ers in the 1st round.

  • Bruno

damn haven’t check that up but hope for that series anyway … everyone it’s saying a lot of bullsh@t about this NY team but if they face Miami you know it’s gonna be a wild series

  • bnets

Nuggets Winners of the trade LMFAO

  • JTaylor21

Can someone explain to me why Melo had the Knicks head over heels for his services?

  • MUBWAR

Because he is a dead eye shooter with little to nothing else to offer. No passing and horrendous D kinda like his main man Amar’e

  • MUBWAR

    I hope that answers your Q JTaylor21

  • Riggs

T-Money: I’m sorry but the knicks without melo lost pretty stupid games, if this knicks team still had those 3 they wouldve still lost games. The trade wasnt to win it all now, thats just stupid to think so. It was to acquire carmelo NOW for the off-chance that they wouldve lost him in free agency (like they lost lebron)

  • JTaylor21

Mubwar, thanks bra. It all makes sense now why the Knicks were the only team willing to destroy their entire roster for a player that only plays on one end of the court.

  • MUBWAR

surprised me too. But Hey this is the same organization who gave Isiah Thomas a job.

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

yupppp all the hate on Melo, im loving it, please dont be bandwagoners when things smooth out, thanks

  • Huh?

Isn’t it ‘gel’ and not ‘jell’?

  • MUBWAR

bandwagoners and the Knicks just don’t seem to get along. Meloman just change your name to: The Knicks, where efence and Offense happens. But where is the D?looool
