Chauncey Billups: ‘I’m Hoping to Be in New York Next Year’

Billups tells the media that his wish is to still be in a Knick uniform next season, and beyond. From ESPN: “Chauncey Billups said late Monday night that he’s hoping to remain with the New York Knicks next season and ‘going forward.’ Billups’ contract contains a team option for 2011-2012 for $14.2 million. The Knicks can pick up the option or buy Billups out for $3.7 million. ‘I haven’t ruled anything out. Obviously, I’m hoping to be a New York Knick next year and going forward after that. But I can only control so much,’ Billups said. Billups said that his agent, Andy Miller, has had preliminary conversations with team president and general manager Donnie Walsh about Billups’ future with the club. Walsh has said in the past that he would not rule out signing Billups to an extension.”

Billups is still serviceable and would be good on a non-playoff team that needs veteran leadership. Who needs Billups when Chris Paul and Deron Williams are coming to the New York Knicks? Send Billups packing, Dolan. Make it happen, Walsh.

So am I chauncey, so am I.

I’d prefer a younger, more pass first pg than Billups. You already have two players who always need the ball to be effective. A distributer who doesn’t make scoring such a big part of his game would fit better.

  • LandryLegend

the knicks should buy him out and resign him for less so they can have more cap space to get a center like Marc Gasol who can play some D and rebound

  • Anthony

There u knick fans go again.. @runNgun really cp3 is going to LA and dwill is staying nobody is going to ny because ny has stupid fans stupid people in the organization and 2 superstars who just like to score. NY was better wit Felton

  • Anthony

  • LandryLegend

Felton was better with passing on pick & rolls and tempo, but u cant hate on chauncey’s leadership and shooting. Felton also was trigger happy and cant shoot nearly as good as chauncey

  • http://www.streammate.com runNGun

@Anthony Dan Gilbert will win an NBA Championship before you will.

  • Riggs

@Anthony: cp3 to the lakers? youre the only one who’s looking stupid there buddy.

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

@ Anthony: Your city is second rate and your fans don’t even care about basketball. Most are a bunch a fickle airheads who don’t even go to the games to watch the actual game. They come to be seen, arrive late, and leave early. You can’t knock us when that’s how your team’s fan base is.

  • Anthony

hahaha @ dan gilbert really……………. and @zoom New Jersey sucks i admit but there are loyal fans…. It ok tho When the Heat and knicks lose in the first round yall both gon look stupid like always… NJ WILL BE BETTER IN 5 YEARS

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

My bad, Anthony I thought you were in LA…so that means your team’s fans don’t show up AT ALL lmao! And my dude, there won’t be a Jersey team in five years. However, there will be another team in NY that will still play second fiddle. Those of us loyal NYK fans in Bklyn won’t hop on the Net bandwagon.

  • http://www.streammate.com runNGun

@anthony The Nyets will always be New York’s B-Team and I’m sure you know what the B stands for, ‘cuz it rhymes with itch. Just sayin’… :D

  • Anthony

@zoom lol true but dats gon change ani agree the move to ny is stupid but w.e @runNgun cmon try to be clever at least… i would think you knicks fans would be better at making jokes since they sucked…….. it wasnt to long ago when the knicks were losing to the nets… Thats gon pick up next year

  • http://slamonline.com biged

I dont think anymore stars are coming to NY, not until they get a better coach. plus the organisation suck because the guys in control suck and the fans are quick to flip flop. CP3 and/or williams aint gonna waste their prime there and dwight howard soft azz would be ate alive by the fans so he dont want none of that.

You knicks fans better get used to the idea of first round exits.

  • http://www.streammate.com runNGun

@zoom Hey… we still got love for our non-playoff B-team. Just score a little bit so you don’t embarrass yourself, then you can bow down in the third quarter of each game, and keep developing players for us. Make it happen, Walsh.

I think we need Chauncey to manage to massive ego’s of our new superstars. They need that older championship level guard to steer the ship.

  • T-Money

the thing with new york is that their stars and head coach are not in it to win it. mike d came to ny from phx because of location (his words). stoudemire jumped at the first team that offered him max money and max years (he would have resigned with phx if they had committed to an extra year), melo wanted to be in ny for the spotlight. say what you will about the miami boys but the only reason they made their moves was to have a better opportunity at championships. more money and an even bigger spotlight was available elsewhere.

  • JL

of course he says that. remember when he was in denver he said he didn’t even want to leave. now the financial implications really tell the story. open market he will not get 14.2 million as a FA. that’s why he says he wants to stay and hope the knicks pick up the team option. otherwise the team will probably not be good until he is gone. in fact NY is better suited to just use his salary to get some young pieces instead. I think they will do that. Buy him out, and sign him for less or let him sign elsewhere. I really think NY was shafted using all those players, many of which were the core of a actually decent NY team to get melo, a half court (offense) player. They could have gotten him if he really wanted to go to NY as a FA. Was he really going to go to another team that he didn’t like for more money? That was a gamble the knicks upper management didn’t want to take obviously.

I hate Knicks management almost as much as I hate the fact that D’Antoni is coaching.

  • toinefan88

Chauncey is the right choice for the Knicks.

  • http://slamonline.com cold as ice

i would like chauncey to remain on the knicks. he’s a gd leader on and off the court. a gd vet for younger pg such as toney douglas to learn from. and when chauncey leaves douglas steps right in. so ill keep his leadership and knowledge. but what i read about jersey up there. C’MON SON!!! u serious?? ya bums had ya stretch made ya money and where are ya now??? was ya even sold out for ta trips to the finals?? ya sell out when we come over to ya town. and half if not most of ya fans are knick fans. ya were at the bottom of the east so long and im talkin bout before now and kidd’s time there that ya will f o r e v e r be bums, scrubs and when ya come to ny. ya will be 2nd. ya want to be like us. its only a shame ya can never be. because theres only 1 ny basketball team. 1 MECCA. and thats the NEW YORK KNICKS!!!

  • bull22

yeah i hope he comes back to when they are suppose to jell… LOL! i cant wait for these NY trash talking BUMS (KNICKS) to be shown the door in the playoffs! hahahahhahahahahahahha

  • http://www.streammate.com runNGun

I can’t wait for the BULLS to implode, so Derrick Rose will become a Knick. Make it happen, Walsh.

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

This Bulls cat is OBSESSED with the Knicks.

  • Jono

Chauncey, you’d best be jumping on the bandwagon and join the best team in the NBA next year, the Denver Nuggets.

  • harlem_world

I’d love to keep Chauncey, but not at that price. He’s got 2 good years left in him after this one. If we can buy him out and resign for much less, let’s do it. But if there’s even a chance we can get Kemba or Kyrie in the draft (sign and trade for pick position?), then we need to do that instead. If CP3 is a possibility, then that would be priority.

As for the Nets – we’ve been mistreated by management since the 90′s, but if you from NY you know there will always only be one team. It’s going to be like the Lakers and Clippers. The Nets have no tradition or fan base.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Knicks would be stupid not to re-sign him. Seriously.

  • Clydesays

I can see Chauncey taking a buyout and RUNNING back to Denver…

  • Flagrant_foul

Yea but he wouldn’t even start if he went back to Denver. He may be 3rd string

  • http://slamonline.com cold as ice

@zoom yea from what im reading this dude is obsessed with us. who wouldnt be? but mike days are over @bull22. and if i remember we beat ya this season at the garden. and if it wasn’t for isiah thomas ya wouldnt have the set up ya have now. while ya hometown hero ran our team to irrevelancy.(about 50% thomas fault) he pretty much gave ya our draft picks which built the baby bulls into what ya got now! we know the chicagoains hate us new yorkers. we got some bad blood there. like everywhere else. but we’ll get through it like all others. but rose is that dude right now. but what has he done lately??? has he ever gotten to the 2nd rnd or even the ecf??? naw 1st rnd exits the last 2yrs lookin like dirk!!!! so slow your roll my man. ya man is still crawling. he gotta walk before he can run. same with us. but ya man goes down who gonna pick up the slack?? not boooooooozer. not noah and deng aint like the deng of old. so until i see some playoff experience “I DONT BELIEVE YOU, YOU NEED MORE PEOPLE”

  • bull22

oh dont worry cold as ice and zoom, iam sure everyone is waiting to see how the bulls do in playoffs. and no i dont hate new yorkers, i just cant stand the trash talking over a NY team that is going to do absolutely NOTHING! but i call it the PAT RILEY disease, believing in and winning NOTHING!

  • RunNGun

BULL22 We’re not trash talking, we’re just speaking the truth. Every superstar wants to be a Knick; that’s truth, son… that’s truth.

  • http://slamonline.com cold as ice

@bull but thats new york for u man. trash talkin and all is part of our agenda. but we do spit facts. us going to the finals. not happening this yr. but give it 2 to 3 depending on the pieces they put around stat/melo with billups whether at a reduced rate or picking up his contract and i can see us going pretty far. with d’antoni his stubborness will eventually get the best of him. if he can change or incorporate more defenses schemes in his play book. gr8. if not bring back jeff vangundy or a coach who can deal with big ego’s.a regular coach wont be able to pull it off. i give d’antoni till december.if he dont get his act right by then. pink slips to all.and eventually the big 4 will be stat/melo/fields/douglas.

  • http://slamonline.com cold as ice

but this yr. depending on who it is. 2nd rnd. strong word. DEPENDING

  • MikeC.

I think the Knicks have a shot at the 2nd round of the playoffs, but only because they won’t match up with the Cavs or Pacers in the first round.

  • bull22

hey there ICE T, whoops my bat, i meant KOOL MOE DEE, whoops did it again, i mean COLD AS ICE. go to the balkman article for your response.
