Chris Paul Playing Better Without Knee Brace

Paul says he feels a lot better physically, and the results back him up. From the Times-Picayune: “Lately he has looked more and more like the near-peerless Paul, like the player who has taken opponents and twisted them like putty until they resembled anything but competent defenders. Like Wednesday night at the New Orleans Arena, when he weighed and measured the Phoenix Suns en route to 26 points, nine assists, five rebounds and three steals in a 100-95 victory that moved the Hornets back into sixth place in the Western Conference standings. ‘That’s just the way it’s going,’ Paul said of his surge. ‘It’s winning time. You can’t wait and hope other teams lose to get in position.’ … Before torching the Suns, Paul riddled Sacramento for 33 points, 15 assists, seven rebounds and five steals and hit up Denver for 27 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and seven steals. Those games made him the second player in league history with a two-game total of at least 60 points, 25 assists, 10 rebounds and 10 steals … ‘Ever since I got that knee brace off, I feel a lot freer,’ he said, that being as close to an admission as he’ll allow that he now is at his peak.”

who was the first player to do it?

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Michael Ray Richardson was first to do it. The Suns broadcasters mentioned it last night.

  • greg

my boy paul is snapping. ill wait to see how he does against an actual defense before i say hes back to being on his own planet in terms of lead guards

  • greg

that brace he was wearing looks more a like a cast im not surprised why he wasnt trying to do so much

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

26, 9 and five is a near-peerlees Paul? Drose is avg 25,8,4. It all looks so funny now, Drose really is the best PG in the league.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Paul has been doing it on 58% shooting, a league leading ass-to ratio, whilst improving on his league leading steal average.
A fully healthy Paul is peerless. Time will tell if he can keep this level of play up. It will likely depend on whether he is back to full strength.

  • NJ4Life

Think I’m gonna auto-run a season in 2k, pick some neutral team, and put CP3, DWill, and DRose for three diff seasons. See whose “version” of the team comes out on top.

  • JTaylor21

    Jahmai, Just Say No!!!!!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Derrick Rose leads the east in wins, Paul leads the west in flops.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

I don’t even care THAT much about stats, I care about the Bulls winning and except for the Spurs nobody is doing it more than Drose and the Bulls.

  • JTaylor21

Sure you don’t care about stats but you were quick to rattle off DRose’s numbers. Contradict much?

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Oh boy, here we go again…. Paul vs. Rose, round 137.
AllBall should just become his agent.
For the record, I have to see a fully healthy season from both gents before I comment on who I think is better.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Read carefully jtaylor ‘THAT much’ that implicates I care but not THAT much, so there’s no contradiction.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    Enigmatic, are you serious?
I didn’t mention Paul until Jahmai referenced Rose. The only name I mentioned was Michael Richardson.
Also, we have seen a fully healthy CP, he was the true MVP back when Bean got it, but he didn’t have enough “buzz”. Lucky D Rose doesn’t have to worry about that in Chi Town.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

He finished top 5 (maybe 3) in MVP voting 3 years running, then last year he wasn’t healthy. Looks like we are finally seeing THAT CP again.
For the record, I don’t want this to turn into another Rose/Paul thing either. Don’t know why Rose was even brought into it.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Sorry, that is incorrect, he was 2nd two years running, then he got hurt. 1 year he finished behind Kobe, then behind Bron.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

You were awfully quick to jump into your rundown of stats and all that for someone who doesn’t want it turned into another debate is all I’m saying.
And you know where I stand, a fully healthy Chris Paul is not “peerless”.
Number 8 is always right there, too.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    Come on Enigmatic.
Jahmai brought D Rose into it referencing how his stats were similar. A logical reply to Jahmai would include stats.
Now your bringing Deron into it, too? Fully healthy CP has always been far more productive than Deron, so that’s that.
And no, I didn’t want a debate, otherwise I would have said more in my first comment.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

You know, I wish Slam had a log-in so you could delete your own comments.
I’m trying not to get into this particular debate as often, my bad Enigmatic.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

    Nah, it’s all good.

  • True H

look everybody knows the illest gaurd in the league is JJ Redic. He plays into the psyche of all these point gaurds by pretending to get crossed up by all of them and acting like he cant stay in front of anybody, he’s just waiting for the perfect time to strike….

  • Mo

The guy is playing better without that brace. He had started playing better in the 2 games before he got that concussion really. I haven’t read all the posts in this thread but I don’t understand why people can’t be happy the guy is playing better without the brace instead of hatin all the d*mn time.

Jahmai as good as Rose has been, he still hasn’t had a season for the ages like Paul did in 07-08. Chill out bruh and enjoy all this good point guard play that we have going on in the league right now. Damn.

  • bashmo

Wow. Rose is averaging the numbers he is while shooting 44 percent and 33 percent from deep. CP only averages 12 shots a game leads the league is steals and 4th in assists. When you factor this with the him also shooting at a 48 percent clip and 42 percent from downtown, its clear that he is the most efficient pg guard in the league on both ends. Rose puts up what, 19 shots a game? And 7.9 Assists is a nice complementary stat. When it comes down to it, CP is still the league’s best Point.

  • blakos

    Lets nor forget the Steals…….

  • spursnation

Chris Paul plays in a deliberately slow offense and his team is nowhere near as good as Rose’s. Plus Paul plays in the West and has to go through better teams on his way to the playoffs. D Rose is my man but he’s no where near Paul on an efficiency level.

  • CP3NOLA

Killa beez is swarming. Just saying…

  • greg

i like chris paul more but it is really just like picking ur fav type of music. they get the job done differently so are hard to compare. rose makes poor decisions with the ball sometimes, chris paul sometimes cant defend bigger guards. rose is attacking and aggressive, paul is cautious and efficent. rose has size to guard any pg, but chris has a basketball iq that allows him to see what is going on 3 frames ahead of whats going on

  • http://slamonline.com The Ambassador

    Cp3>D-Rose all day!!!

  • Mike From Spain

co-sign greg, I prefer CP3 but it is more a matter of taste than of hating on DRose. DRose does the right things for his Bulls – he carries a lot of the offensive load, he attacks the rim relentlessly, provides decent D, improved his 3 point shot enormously this season, provides assists… but Bball IQ and efficiency-wise I think CP3 is ahead. It is just logical that it is so, DRose needs a few years to be at his peak, CP3 is peaking or near peaking right now. Chill,I like the Bulls but right now I prefer CP3

  • feez22

well d-rose you had your half a season to shine as the best PG in the league… time to relinquish that title ONCE AGAIN to the man leading the killer beez. sorry bulls fans… sorry rose… but YOU KNOW DEEP DOWN that chris paul when healthy (like right now?) is far and beyond a better PG than rose. Yall still bring up the scoring even when rose takes the 2nd most shots in the LEAGUE… volume shooter. and not an efficient one at that. 44% from the field… thats a regression from his rookie yr. All that shows me is he is volume shooting. & we don’t even need to compare cp3′s 07-08 season… look @ his 08-09 season. 22-11, 3 turnovers per and 50% from the field? from a PG???? umm… no need to talk on this anymore. clearly cp3 is the more advanced PG. I’d say that rose has a mean killer instinct though he comes through a lot @ the end. Cp3 this yr has dissapeared in the 2nd half of many games. Maybe it was the injury that made it hard for him to go hard in the 2nd half i dunno.

  • feez22

& @ this point i wouldn’t say a fully healthy cp3 is peerless but it has taken an injury for people to suddenly scramble to find the league’s best PG… before his injury everyone knew what was up. After that injury people started saying D-Will. Then it was rondo @ the beginning of the season. Then it was rose. even NASH peeked in the picture again. Paul has come back to take back what he was 2 seasons ago. Efficiency stats don’t lie. chris paul is the more efficient passer, scorer and shooter… what is there to talk about other than rose taking a volume amount of shots to get a certain number of points a la kobe? i hear rose to lebron comparisons ALL THE TIME. the problem with those are that lebron was far and beyond a much efficient scorer in cleveland than what rose is. he wasn’t a volume shooter. Rose is more clutch but you could argue lebron ran the POINT better in cleveland than rose is doing in chicago right now(better asst/turn ratio with more assists and less turnovers)… and he’s a SF… does anyone not see a problem with that? i wouldn’t say that lebron has ran the point better than any of the other PG’s i have mentioned… but with rose its painfully different. Thats why i call rose a combo guard. a great combo guard. Pure point guard my ass.

    This
is in all probability the most affordable route to require. you are doing not
have to be compelled to pay a cent to get on the couch and rest your knee. Or,
does one still have to be compelled to pay? – What we have a tendency to mean
to mention is that though rest doesn’t price you a penny, it’ll take a minute.
