Doc Rivers Doesn’t Appreciate Alvin Gentry’s Trash Talk

KG had a funny story to tell regarding him and Alvin Gentry jawing late in the game last night, but Doc Rivers wasn’t in a joking mood. From WEEI: “Celtics forward Kevin Garnett and Suns coach Alvin Gentry had words for one another in the final seconds of the C’s 115-103 victory over Phoenix on Wednesday night. Things escalated when Rajon Rondo then attempted a three-pointer with the C’s holding a 10-point lead, which led to a technical foul from Jared Dudley. ‘Alvin Gentry was asking me for tickets for the first round of the playoffs,’ Garnett said after the game. ‘I told him I’ll hook him up, so that’s what that was.’ Celtics coach Doc Rivers shared his opinion on the exchange, saying he doesn’t believe in such behavior from coaches. ‘I thought their bench, their coaches were talking,’ Rivers said, ‘which I don’t think you should ever [do] if you have a suit and tie on and and actually can’t play. I don’t think you should be doing a lot of talking to the players on the floor. It’s just my opinion.’”

Rivers needs to cry a river, build a bridge, and get the f*ck over it.
That being said, Garnett’s comment was hysterical, and I’m a Suns fan.

well well well … doc shouldn’t have talked with grant hill during the game then … celtics all acted like punks just cause they were up by 25 at one point. really classy behaviour!

Dudley smashing Rondo during a 3 was the highlight of that game, for sure.

All these players would look nice in Knicks uniforms. Make it happen, Walsh. Rivers can be your new assistant.

  • riggs

dont like them? then beat them.

I wish these guys met in the first round of the playoffs…..
    ….Sarver, relocate to Brooklyn.

  • ripslam

@riggs: uh, the Celts did beat them lol.

So Doc thinks you shouldn’t be talking if you have a suit & tie on and actually can’t play??…. Hmmm…interesting… I wonder if felt the same way when KG was running his mouth nonstop in the ’09 playoffs… from the bench… in, you guessed it, a suit & tie! Rebuttal? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Really? What about the series against the Bulls when Garnett was injured and couldn’t play and was acting an damn fool on the sidelines? I know Doc was talking about the coaches, but he mentioned the bench also. Hypocrisy is funny.

Was there anything in that exchange? wtf

  • ClydeSays

I’m a C’s fan and I see Doc talking to opposing players ALL the time. He’s talking, mind you. Not screaming, but still…

    @:dunkbar
you must undersatand that this is celtics basketball, and this is cool

  • Drew

This game happened so long ago, why are people still talking about it? Both sides need to get over it.

  • http://sdfklf.com Jukai

c_cantrell: Gentry wasn’t downing his own team. Garnett gave a sarcastic response. Garnett and Gentry were not exchanging pleasantries…

    Nice one, Kevin. Well played.

  • http://slamonline.com Ugh

That *was* a nice one from KG. Heh.

Haha, bit of tasteful trash-talk from KG finally. I do agree with Rivers though, Gentry always seems to be jawing at one player or another throughout the game.

  • flipnoyce

Haters gonna Hate, just brushed it off C’s fans.

The real headline should read “Alvin Gentry Doesn’t Appreciate The C’s Being B*tches”

  • vtrobot

@ ripslam: riggs was referring to the C’s not the suns. @ everyone referring to KG in a suit during the playoffs: doc was talking about COACHES in suits refraining from getting into it w/ players. do you think that doc also doesn’t think that businessmen in suits in the stands also shouldn’t get into it with the players? WTF? don’t get everything twisted so you can show your hate for KG. call KG as classless as you want, but doc is all class.

oh i see lol i gotcha now!

Sorry for the delay, I was actually coaching basketball: Travis wanted a ruBUTTal & A., well just read and dispute if you like. Doc was the 1st one to tell KG to shut it up during that series and it was well publicized. He actually turned to KG and said something to him a couple of times during the games. I was there at 2 home games. When you see Doc talking to players from other teams how many times do you see the player mad? You don’t because their exchanges are friendly (doc does zing the refs but that’s HIS job not the players job)./ Let’s use our noodle folks, when Doc is saying coaches & players who are sidelined shouldn’t be talking to on court players you know he means trash talking or bad mouthing and not literally just talking. ripslam gets it and explains it perfectly..
