David West Out for Season With ACL Tear

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Last night in Utah was a mixed bag for the New Orleans Hornets. They gutted out a tough overtime win, in thrilling — at times surreal – fashion, but may have lost their second-best player for the remainder of the season in the process.

On a hard, driving left-handed dunk late in the fourth quarter to tie the game, David West came down awkwardly on his left knee. He left the court in a wheelchair.

The Times-Picayune has the details:

West sustained what is being termed as “left knee trauma” on a driving slam dunk with 22.5 to go in regulation. X-rays were negative, but an MRI is scheduled for today in Phoenix, where the Hornets play the Suns on Friday night.

West was laid out on a training table in the dressing room, his knee encased in ice, in obvious pain, his face covered by a towel. A large immobilizing splint and a pair of crutches were brought into the locker room.

UPDATE: The Times-Picayune reports that today’s MRI revealed a torn left ACL and DWest will be out for season.

CP, this a sign for you to leave, ASAP!!

Make it happen, Walsh?! Being serious, the injury looked bad live, and on replay. I would not be surprised if he did not come back this season. The Marcus Thornton/Carl Landry trade looks better after last night.

  • Bruno

I feel sorry for D-West but this makes it easier for LA, cause right now is LA-New Orleans in the first round

  • greg

i just hope its not career threatning because west is one of the true tough guys of the nba and even if he misses this season i hope he is ok for the next. that being said, ill never forgive chris paul if he resigns with this sideshow team

Bruno, I think that match-up would have been easy for LA with or with out West. The Hornets want to play Dallas in the first round.

  • Bruno

well you’re true AllBall of the bottom three teams, I think New Orleans is weaker … Memphis despite not having Gay is gonna be real tough

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I think it is just match-ups. The Hornets cannot match-up with LA. They don’t have the size.

paul pierce would have come back in the game. step it up, west.

damn i wish cp3 would get in orlando somehow

  • Josh

Unfortunate injury, although it makes the playoff race that much more interesting. Hard to see NOLA getting through the season without some losses piling up and with Houston streaking, could make for a good finish to the end of the season.

  • Josh

And to c_cantrell, the only way PDouble would come back into that game was if he pre-determined he was going to play the drama queen card that game and didn’t actually hurt himself. *Flashbacks to Pauly crying and taken off the court in a wheel chair, only to be back on the court without a limp 2 minutes later*

  • http://www.slamonline.com c_cantrell

yeah, i completely lost all respect for that p*ssy after that.. goin out on a wheel chair just to come back running a couple minutes later? wth!? dude is a drama queen p*ssy

  • http://slamonline.com JL

@josh – however lame that was, you gotta say it pumped up the team. pp played well afterwards too. disgusting but effective lol

  • Will

I don’t understand why everyone b**ches about a top-heavy league, hates on LeBron for the decision, yet wants guys like Chris Paul – leading a playoff team 10 games over .500 mind you – to sign with another team. Why? He’s not toiling away on a basement team. The Hornets only sucked last year and that was because CP was hurt. I just don’t get all the hate for N.O.

  • bashmo

damn…such a bad loss at such a bad time..i hope we get him back before playoffs begin, or else we don’t stand a chance regardless of who we play. Landry has to fill big shoes for us…

  • http://www.slamonline.com c_cantrell

if it takes ruining your reputation as a man playing a mans game, then no its not worth it.. he now has the rep of a p*ssy who plays ball.. n whats with the stare down he always gives when he dunks on someone (which only happens bout once every 2 seasons) he rarely dunks on anyone but when he does he just stands there, curls his lips, n squints his eyes trying to give the hardest look possible to whoever he dunked on.. its kinda funny actually that someone who goes out on a wheel chair for a floor burn tries to be a bad*ss when he dunks on someone.. p*ssy

  • http://www.slamonline.com c_cantrell

landry will produce my friend, he is extremely underrated.. he will fill in much like darren collison did for cp3 last year

  • burnt_chicken

If you want to rehash the Truth, remind yourself of the time he was STABBED REPEATEDLY (11 times in the face, back, chest, and neck! One wound reportedly being 7 INCHES DEEP…AND he had a bottle smashed over his head) and “took it like a man”. It was reported that this all happened because he was “man enough” to try and break up a fight. Oh, and he was man enough to play all 82 games that season. And average over 25 ppg.

This is terrible for NO, but as bad for NO and David West as I feel, I hope they drop 8 of their last 10 so the playoffs can be as competitive as possible. ANd I think despite all that’s gone on this season, that Phoenix or Houston would give San Antonio fits in a first round series. I don’t feel that way about NO cuz they can’t shoot the ball.

  • OvaChicken

Hope you recover soon bro .

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Damn, I guess he should have taken that extension. Now he’s in trouble.

  • http://klatschendom.wordpress.com/ speedy

    Burnt chicken is right.
Easy for c_cantrell to call Paul a pus.. in a chat.
Please some respect for a guy that is always out there delivering

  • bull22

sorry to hear that about david west. he has not been the same since he got hurt in the playoffs against the spurs a few years ago, neither has this team. what a shame.

  • http://www.slamonline.com c_cantrell

i would say it to his face, i could give a f*ck less.. yes he is a great player, yes he has accomplished alot throughout his career, yes he was stabbed all over.. but i after the wheelchair, i lost all respect for him as a player

  • Clay

How do you allow yourself to be stabbed 11 times at once without a gun being involved? I’m at least going down swinging

  • JL

i’ve heard jack ramsay say that paul pierce is one of the top offensive floppers (drops to the ground when you touch him on jump shots) in the league. i just think it’s part of his game. i don’t like the guy, but he plays the game well (real and fake).

  • the nerve

he gotta let dem broads do him! lay yo azz down n let them ride yo siht. all dat doggy style w/ da groopies dun fukked his knees up. What yall know bout tthats why they do that micro fracture shti

  • ripslam

I do not understand why people hate on Paul Pierce for the wheelchair thing. I seriously doubt that was pre-planned. Credit the Boston medical squad for patching him up. If you guys don’t think he plays a “man’s game”, ask the many people he’s dunked on this season.

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

clay, he got blindsided. he was trying to break up a fight when dudes jumped him. try going out swinging when you’re getting jumped and stabbed, tough guy

  • ClydeSays

Ooof. S%^ks for NOLA. Hope he can come back at 100%.

How did this get to be about Pierce? I love his game. Maybe he’ll address you haters in his HoF speech. Or not.
