Knicks to Raise Season Ticket Prices by 49%

Those superstar salaries and MSG renovations aren’t going to pay for themselves, y’know. It will be a lot more expensive to watch the Knicks play at home in the very near future. From the NY Post: “The combination of the Knicks being on the verge of qualifying for the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2003-04, the ongoing $700 million to $1 billion transformation of the Garden, and the latest blockbuster addition of superstar Carmelo Anthony to play alongside Amar’e Stoudemire has prompted owner James Dolan to raise the roof on ticket prices. MSG sports president Scott O’Neil is scheduled to meet with a raft of season-ticket holders today for a presentation on the new benefits that come with the significantly higher new prices. As it is, the Knicks are ranked second in average ticket price at $88. That figure is second to the Lakers, whose average price is $113, according to Forbes. Since the Anthony trade, according to SeatGeek.com, the prices for some Garden games on the secondary market rose as much as 113 percent from the season average. [James] Dolan had not raised season-ticket prices the prior six seasons, sticking by a policy not to go there when the club fails to make the playoffs. Before the season, the Knicks sold out of season tickets and created a wait list for the first time since 2001-02. More than 4,000 new season tickets were purchased for the season.”

I’ll pay it if it means a title in NY!

  • Yep

there’s enough money in new york to triple the ticket prices and still sell out if it means they’re going to be contenders. more money to the franchise means more benefits for the players too. you don’t think that if the knicks franchise starts towing in double or triple the revenue that it won’t get kicked back into recruiting players with outside-the-cba benefits?

  • Jeff

Gotta love the knicks hiking up prices based solely on hype and what the team could be. Bulls have already announced ticket prices won’t be raised next year. Keeps the real fans in the building.

  • Rubber Soul

Yep, you don’t think the players are getting enough benefits as it is? Do these guys need a 401K now? Let’s keep it real people, it’s basketball it’s not like these guys have double jobs 6 days a week hauling trash or washing dishes. I love the game and I enjoy the entertainment, but damn yo the NBA is getting selfish. For real.

People in New York will pay. Trust, they will sell out the Garden every night-plenty of people want to see the Knicks now.

In the immortal words of ice cube and chris tucker “DAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMNNNNNNN!”

  • KB8toSG8

This is BS lol. Bulls took the better decision. 49% increase when they’re already having the 2nd highest average ticket price?!?! Are they nuts!? And they still aren’t even a legit contender but more of a contender in the making lol

  • Fat Lever

Shouldn’t the Knicks raise them 15% in light of Melo and Earl? Cross promotion, baby!
