LeBron James Heats Up

Safe to say the Heat have been both on and off at times this season, their first with all three superstars in tow. But at this point, things are looking much more on than off.

And why? Among other reasons, that LeBron James guy has been going wild. First Friday night, in the form of a 43-point outburst against the Hawks, and then Saturday night he dropped 33 (15-25 form the field) on the Nuggets. Not too shabby.

Via the Heat Index:

He’s simply on a different level right now. After shooting 76 percent the night before, James kept the fire aglow by nailing nine of his first 11 shots of the game. He didn’t frequent the line as he normally does, but he created space and capitalized on his cushion. With the way he’s shooting, the Heat may not want the three-day layoff between games.

We were all ready to declare Derrick Rose the next MVP, but if Bron Bron keeps this up, we might be forced to reconsider. If nothing else, the race for that Maurice Podoloff Trophy has officially tightened up.

much more on THAN off. THAN.

    @Zabba naw seen later

  • Omnixyience

    reconsider!? why?!
D-rose has been playing what you called
“Heats Up” all season, and Lebron is just
playing like that as the season’s end.
Why bother?! Just wrapped that trophy
and send it to Chi-town, and this is
    coming from a Laker fan.

    @season

  • LA Huey

I’m a big LeBron fan but I’ll admit that Rose is the MVP barring an epic slump on his part down the stretch. The unwritten qualification of MVP is that the candidate’s team is among the league’s best. The other measurement is how bad the team would drop-off if the candidate is removed from the roster. Also, Thibs for COY (and I’m a big Popovich fan).

  • robb

who wrote this? terrible just terrible.

  • Dagger

Omnixyience: Lebron is shooting about 7% better than Rose while scoring 1.5 more ppg. As a scorer, Lebron’s had a much better season than Rose.

  • treytreytrey

@LA Huey : based on both your criteria for MVP, i think LeBron is the best candidate.

his team (well, kinda) is not far off from the top, and his previous team is struggling beyond belief this season. from 60+ win is a season down to the bottom of the league.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

How the hell can LeBron be MVP over Rose if his team can’t even beat Rose’s?
    Or the Celtics.

  • Zabba

@Enigmatic: If they beat them in the standings, which they most likely won’t.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Not happening, people who have a vote are already saying, they’re going to give it to rose, at this point of the season, rose could probably get injured and still win it, seriously. Besides, 43 and 33 is nice but it’s nothing crazy. It’s not like Kobe’s 4 consecutive 50+ games.

  • http://hoopistani.blogspot.com hoopistani

Ummm… To all those thingking LeBron can be MVP, are you forgetting that he has certain a team-mate called Dwyane Wade who is doing almost as much as LeBron is this season? The media is so quick to point out that Bron had 33, but what about Wade’s 32. What about Wade being player of the week, why didn’t that put Wade in MVP debate?
LeBron’s best teammates are Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Mike Miller. Rose’s best teammates are Loul Deng, Joakim Noah, and Carlos Boozer. Rose’s team has had more injury problems. And Rose’s team is higher than LeBron in the standings, and have beaten them thrice.
Don’t throw stats at me. The player with the greatest value in the NBA this season has been Derrick Rose. Even Dwight deserves it more than LeBron

  • http://sfdjklf.com Jukai

I’m a massive Lebron fan. Hoopistani is right.

  • blackthougth

take rose over lebron 4 mvp this season, without a bling (lebrons the better player, but d-rose is more important aka valuable 4 his team)and even mj didn`t get 3 in a row, so there`s no way lebron should. by the way, the bulls owned the heat in the regular season.

  • ripslam

This is the front-page story? Gimme a break.

  • spursnation

Magic won a bunch of MVPs with a top 10 player (all-time) in tow. This whole lone superstar garbage is a sham. No MVP has won a title in the same year since Tim Duncan in 2003. Who was on Duncan’s squad?

  • spursnation

Dave Rob, Ginobli and Parker. Those are some fine pieces that anyone can win a title with.

In a Diddy from 95′ voice ” I thought I told ya that we won’t stop, I thought I told ya’ that we won’t stop”, ” As we proceed, To give you what you neeed!”…ok wrong article, but the saying goes ” I told ya. P.S.-DRose is the people champ, he got MVP in da bag. Still think Ny beats Chi in 6 games,

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

^ NY won’t even face Chicago in the Playoffs. Unless you really think they’ll get past Miami or Boston in the first round.

  • ai come back

drose is shooting is about 44% lebrons is 49% lebrons averaging more than drose drose hasnt been HEATING up all year

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

The Bulls have about as good a chance of going to the finals as I have at becoming a straight man. It aint happening in this lifetime. Heat will beat them despite the regular season losses, should the two battle. They damn aren’t beating the Celts either. Hell if Ny faces them, they might beat them. Milk, milk, lemonade. Around the corner fudge is made.

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

Oh Eniggy, stop being so delusional.

  • JTaylor21

Rose is the MVP so far while Bron’s the better player. Also the media already decided that Rose would be the MVP by the all-star break, so all the other guys are just fighting for second place.

  • Travis

When kobe retire the league will be lebrons!

  • hoodsnake

Drose is definately MVP but he is still learning the PG game-less isos, more ball movement- I wonder how he will fare as a 2? Dude could be a DWade/Iverson hybrid…

  • Hursty

Jukai – did I read that first sentence of your last comment right?

  • http://slamonline.com The Ambassador

Derrick Rose should win the MVP carried the Bulls team full of injuries on his own well desereved!!!

  • http://sfdjklf.com Jukai

Hursty: That ain’t me. Someone’s impersonating me.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Not.that there’s anything wrong.with that.

  • Byebye

D rose is deserving of the MVP
But in the playoffs they will not beat Miami
They won the first gm without Labron
They won the sec gm by 1
They won the third by 2
Oh in the first gm they played without
    Bosh in the second half
    So Labron is MVP

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    Who’s Labron?
Again, some of y’all aren’t getting it.
LeBron is the better player, yes.
    Rose is the MVP.
    Two different things.
Rose had led the Bulls to more wins over more quality opponents.
As we saw against Indiana, he’s taken the team on his back.
LeBron has had more impressive games and better stats, but did Kobe win MVP the year he average 35 a game?
    No.

  • Joblo

wade is more deserving than bron for mvp for his d but my man drose has been killin it all year. He beat the heat three times this year u heat fans got nothin on that

  • O

We in the hood of BK, NY, always talk about this and how regardless to whom or what, LeBron IS NOT the MVP of the league. Aside from the fact that we hate him for being the false prophet (LeBron joining Wade and Bosh’s Heat was like witnessing Jesus Christ joining David Koresh’s clan), we know he COULD be as good as he was before.

Last year’s Cav’s had a better record than this year’s Heat. But the Bulls on the other hand… Da Black Rose (And yes, we say that because Rose is in fact, Black), is the muthaf*ckin’ man! He’s carrying a team filled with dope ass role players who do what it do! He’s the anchor of that team and sometimes doesn’t even have to score over 20. The Heat on the other hand, if the big three aren’t scoring 20 a piece or 30 for two men PLUS help from their supporting cast, then they’re losing.

Sidenote: As a lifelong Knicks fan – W-T-F????

  • monkeyball

Lebron scoring 35ppg is not good for the Heat. He’s way down on his assist numbers in those two games. He needs to be passing the ball, penetrating and attacking the rim. So his jumper is hot for a couple of games. Hurray! Lebron’s not a shooter. Any Heat fan who is celebrating this development will end up disappointed.

If there’s someone out there impersonating Jukai (or anyone else) and making homophobic jokes, shame on you.

  • OvaChicken

it aint nothin . Just provin haters wrong . Thats all.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Mars

I know, we don’t get it. LeBron isn’t MVP, he’s not responsible for his teams success any more than DRose. C’mon haters, you talk with your behinds. How much more can he do? Only one team wins the rings (Lakers,Celtics of late). How many great, elite players, did not win a ring, only because they were playing against the team winning all of them?

  • http://slamonline.com Jukai

@ monkeyball, I’m not a homophobe. I’m just as gay as you!

  • dsleepy

hoopistani’s comment should be the verdict, hands down.

  • monkeyball

    Jackass.
