Miami Boston Inks Troy Murphy

UPDATE: Looks like Yahoo! got it wrong (see below); Murphy tells ESPN that he’s going to Boston instead. My head hurts: “Troy Murphy HIMSELF confirms to ESPN.com that he is going to Boston. B-O-S-T-O-N”

Murphy has chosen to take his talents to South Beach instead of Beantown: “Free agent forward-center Troy Murphy has agreed to sign with the Heat, sources tell Y! Sports. Murphy also turned down Celtics.”

Eboy – What is Eddie House, what was that turnover where he passed it behind Wade running the other direction? What use is he on defense AT ALL? What does Chalmers and House have to do with each other? If your playing a big time shot maker your playing Mike Bibby not Eddie House. Eddie House is essentially useless with Bibby on the team, especially considering Mike Miller is starting to get late game minutes.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    Good.
Now The King doesn’t have to play the point.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

House will get playoff minutes spelling Chalmers. Mark it down.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

What your saying Eboy is that Eddie House is somehow intelligent because he makes shots? That dude makes just as many stupid mistakes as Chalmers, and isn’t as good or well efficient of a shooter as Bibby and he is 6’1 on stilts and can’t dribble. Bibby is essentially Eddie House 75.0, Chalmers and House aren’t even related on the basketball court, their skills are opposite.

  • Mas

What has MURPHY ever done to even deserve a mention on SLAM. EVER? I really need to know.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

nbk, you haven’t watched Chalmers enough.

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow

RASHEED WALLACE Career: 14.6 ppg 6.7 rbg 1.8 ast 1.0 st 1.3 blk

I think he played on a few good teams. ya i dunno maybe its just me that remembers him…

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Averaged 16 and 12 – Has any PF on your favorite team ever done that?

  • JTaylor21

No one I repeat No one makes as many stupid mistakes as much as Chalmers does. It’s debatable that Basketball For Big Dummies would even help this fool out.

  • robz

arroyo alot better shooter dn bibby

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I’ve watched plenty of Chalmers and Eddie House, they both suck. There is no reason to play House at all with Bibby on your team, I’m not debating which player of the two horrendous shouldn’t get minutes on any well rounded team is better, they both suck.

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow

Some people called him “Sheed” No bells… umm i think he might have played on the pistons.. maybe..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Why is LakeShow going on and on about Sheed? Dude was supposedley a lock to go back to Boston according to the yips around here. It’s obvious that the human meatsacks that throw sh*t around where wrong as usual…unless Doc is intending to carry 8 front court players into the playoffs on his 12 man active roster.

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow

Oh it looks like he appeared with the Celtics for a little while also.

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow

Oh you have heard of him? Phweeew was starting to think i was the only one, alright i’m good now.

  • http://sdfklf.com Jukai

Eddie is a big game shooter who has been thoroughly outplayed by Chalmers this year. I’m a bit torn on who I’d rather want playing.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

House was instrumental to Boston winning the 08 chip. seriously. him and posey, who was consistently the 3rd best player in each game during the Finals (usually one of the big 3 doesn’t show up for a particular game).
speaking of which, i see Green in the mode of Posey: doesn’t excel in any particular area, but an intelligent player who makes the right play at the right time, because he has the tools to do everything.

  • JTaylor21

Jukai, Chalmers for all of his supposed defensive abilities/prowess is a big dummy. He’s not the kind of guy you would want out there during a tight game in the playoffs because dude might f*ck around and foul a player 94 feet from the rim for no reason at all. Mia should literally nail him to bench come playoff time.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

With the addition of Bibby Miami obviously will not use Chalmers late in games, Bibby and Miller will get ALL of those minutes.

  • blackthougth

Even if they only got murphy, so miami didn`t get him (which i doubt) it was another brilliant move by danny ainge. and swapping perkins (which i still don`t like) 4 green may benefit them in the long run (and by that, i mean this years playoffs).

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

This site has turned into the “Heat fan club” comment section.

  • RunNGun

I say… Eddy Curry to the Knic… never mind.

  • http://thephotoriot.com davidR

troy murphy, defense, and shot blocking? eh..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cheryl

No, it’s not, Kap. I haven’t weighed in yet.
I KNOW no one here is defending Chalmers’ play, right?
Okay, now back to your regularly scheduled Slamfest.

  • http://slamonline Brion

So when Lebron leaves the cavs hes an a**hole how he went about it, but when Mgmt cuts Arroyo its just business.

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

but Lebron is onl 4-10 against Melo all time… just sayin

  • fizzbucket

Laughing at the Miami and Chicago fans, who were only yesterday wishing this guy would sign with their team, now denouncing him as worthless. Also I think you guys are getting a little too excited over Mike Bibby. He’s MIKE BIBBY for freak’s sake.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

He consisently hits three pointers, doesn’t play defense, and isn’t afraid of big moments.
He’s like an uber-Arroyo, and Arroyo had Chalmers beat early in the year until his jumper abandoned him.

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

Who knows what Bibby’s gonna bring… Players that get fresh environments usually play well at their new teams. This will be great at least to get the ball out of Lebron’s hands and maybe run a tolerable half-court offense. I’m more happy for Atlanta than Miami. I wonder who woke up in the Hawks organization and said “Wait a minute; Mike Bibby is done.”

  • http://stapledesign.com Spaceship Jay

And Chalmers has been pretty bad since the Wade-alone-demigod days… the way he used to (used to?) ruin fast breaks was hilarious and frightening.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Spaceship
Bibby actually had a resurgence this year. He’s shooting the three lights out compared to last year when he couldn’t hit anything.
Unless he completely regresses, people are going to be surprised with how consistently he hits the long ball, and how unafraid he is of the big moment. I’m not saying he’s a game changer for Miami, but he is clearly an upgrade.

  • http://theurbangriot.com The Nupe

Bibby taking too many shots and wanting/needing the ball too much may just create another ‘chemistry prolblem’ for the Heat. As it stands, Bron and Wade want the ball and Bron is really the facillitator on the team. Bibby will need to be more of a spot up shooter off of Bron passes than a his typical ‘true pg’ self. I’m not sure if this was really a good move for the Heat – although I think Bibby is an upgrade. Bottom line they still haven’t figured out a system to make both Bron and Wade effective on the floor together and now brining in another guy who is use to handling the ball and facillitating may not be the best move for them.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I’ve never heard Bibby complain about having the ball in his hands except at LA Fitness. That issue will not come up as long as he just gets minutes

  • tavoris

too bad Bibby can’t guard ANY point guard in the NBA. Chalmer’s on-ball D is invaluable to any hope the Heat have of going anywhere. Bibby can shoot, but he’s gonna get MURDERED on D-especially since he doesn’t have Horford and Josh Smith out there to cover for his miscues.

  • http://www.kwapt.blogspot.com KobeWearsAPurpleThong

Great move for Boston. A 6’10″ guy that will spread the floor and who can drill the mid to long-range jumper. The only concern is that the kid hasn’t played in an NBA game since Jan. 4th. He was also totally out-of-shape when he came into camp this past October.

  • http://www.stonesthrow.com Michael NZ

    @Allenp 12:57pm: WORD.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

JTaylor, there is one player stupider than Chalmers: Samuel Dalembert. No question. That said, Murphy helps Boston a bit, but Bibby really helps Miami. The playoff experience and clutch play are an upgrade over whatever Mario brings.

  • T-Money

I dont trust Chalmers and Joel, plain and simple. Jones will also get phased out once UD comes back. I trust that house, miller, ilgauskasand UD wont get the jitters in the playoffs. Mike Bibby is going to start from the get go and force both superstars to play off the ball and run the break. Troy Murphy may not play much

  • allenp

Will Bron fill the lane like he should?

  • JTaylor21

He better cuz I’m tired of him always looking to create plays for others instead of being the one finishing them. It all depends on the coach whether or not they run offensive sets consistently, that will put the ball in Bibby’s hands.

  • T-Money

Jtaylor: most importantly, they will not bring the ball up with bibby on the floor unless they get the rebound.

  • allenp

I wager you are wrong tmoney. Lebron loves to masquerade as a point for some reason.

  • JTaylor21

T-Money, I wouldn’t take that bet if I were you.

  • rich

i seriously doubt wade and lebron let mike bibby handle the ball and play pg. this may turn out to be a pointless move by the heat where he ends up a spot up shooter who watches wade and lebron turn the ball over 7-10 times per game

  • Fortheloveofthegame

All of this talk about point guard minutes when Queen James rings the ball down regardless.. If not him then DWade. If anything Bibby just brings some veteran leadership on court and in the locker room. He is capable of being a big shot maker but I would still take Rondo, Nelson Or DRose head to head.. Not to mention guy can’t guard anyone. It will be interesting to see how it works. Either way it’s all about the Lake Show.. But don’t drown though.
