Miami Boston Inks Troy Murphy

UPDATE: Looks like Yahoo! got it wrong (see below); Murphy tells ESPN that he’s going to Boston instead. My head hurts: “Troy Murphy HIMSELF confirms to ESPN.com that he is going to Boston. B-O-S-T-O-N”

Murphy has chosen to take his talents to South Beach instead of Beantown: “Free agent forward-center Troy Murphy has agreed to sign with the Heat, sources tell Y! Sports. Murphy also turned down Celtics.”

will be a big help to MIA

  • ria

and ESPN says he’s Boston bound. So do we get to sue a guy who signs with two teams?

  • AL29

Well, looks like it’s up to Nenad Kristic to stop Dwight Howard.

  • GeeZee

Fail. Murphy signed with Boston, per ESPN.com

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

ESPN says he chose Boston…so do with this what you will.

  • monrats

    he signed with BOS

  • Dagger

Well . . . another major blow to Miami’s title chances this year.

  • Benn0

One al29, who says that boston will even have to play orlando (yes they are that bad), and two why if he has sign for miami, did you cross out boston?

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lightsout

murphy himself confirmed he’s headed to boston. awesome. hopefully the celtic effect will set in and turn him into a decent defender.

  • Benn0

OOOHHHHH, he has signed with boston – thanks for the update

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

This was not a move that would have helped.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

The best team in the East (Da Bulls) aren’t worried about a Troy Murphy signing.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

@Dagger you’re being sarcastic right?? lol

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

    woah, my bad Phil

  • RunNGun

good signing for boston, but this would have been better if Murphy would have signed w/the KNICKS instead.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    ^Oh, sh1t… lol

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow?

Who would this not have helped? he’s a great addition to the celts frontline. great rebounder/shot blocker. If Sheed comes back to them. they are good to go. No Perk needed

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

Well I guess it makes sense since all of Boston’s bigs are currently nursing injuries… And they’ll likely rest up KG more until the playoffs..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Cheryl

    Gadzuric to Miami?

  • Cheech

Are we sure? Or will it change to Dallas next hour.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I’m kind of glad the Heat didn’t sign dude. They would have been very sad when they realized he plays no defense, as will Boston fans. And yes, I’ve been saying that for weeks. He should have gone to Orlando though. They love big men who don’t defend and shoot threes.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    You know something else?
The Heat are probably going to cut Arroyo to get Bibby. Good move for the team, sucks for Arroyo, right? He put in work, never complained, was a good soldier, and now he’s getting kicked to the curb for an upgrade.
But players are wrong when they jump ship for better cities.
    Gotcha.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Arroyo is the only Heat player not at practice today.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Spo said Arroyo no longer with the team….Riley to make statement later today.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    It’s a business.

  • T-Money

wow, i get why they would cut arroyo but that’s so cold though. going from starter, to bencher, to not on the team at all. and it’s not the first time they yank him or cut him, right?

  • neaorin

Yes, poor Arroyo, now he’ll never see the money left on his deal for this year. Oh wait, yes he will.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

    Damn.
    So Boston gets Murphy.
    Miami gets Bibby.
Chicago may or may not get Rasual Butler.
Yeah, I’d say Chicago lost this battle.

  • http://slamonline.com tealish

Sucks for Carlos. Played well, I thought. Although many disagree with me.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

I see on twitter Eddy Curry may sign with Miami…is this true?

  • T-Money

kg, shaq, big baby, jo, jeff green… troy murphy may not play that much. i think the biggest + of this move from boston is that miami didn’t get him. / i’d start mike bibby right away to not create any controversy. boom, that’s how it’s gonna be. 32 minutes from mike, 16 for chalmers and we’re done with the no point guard line ups. house, you get a cushy seat on the bench and have spot minutes when the situation warrants it.

  • JTaylor21

This is why I’m not a fan and why I hate them, they were quick to bash Bron for leaving the cavs high and dry but they have nothing to say about teams cutting/trading players left and right without warning. Loyalty my a**.

  • T-Money

i know murphy as a 4 in indiana, can he play the 5?

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    neaorin
And Cleveland continues to get a fat juicy portion of the leaguewide revenues and whatever money they squeeze out of saps in Cleveland.
And Denver continues to get the same, and all the revenues from saps still coming to the Pepsi Center.
And so on, and so on.
Players get money, so do League owners. So why is it disloyal for players to leave teams, but not for teams to leave owners? Why is gut-wrenching for a superstar to move on, but not the same when a team moves on from a player who has busted his tail to make a difference?
Because of the Wizard’s First Rule.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

It is a common known fact among NBA players that come the buyout deadline, certain players get cut….so this isn’t an out of the blue move by any means. I think Arroyo was well aware his time was up in Miami.

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

did someone mention Troy Murphy and block shots in the same sentence? dude grabbed boards, yes, but that’s not exactly defense.
    btw, Rasheed who?

  • http://idunkonthem.blogspot.com/ albie1kenobi

i will forever remember arroyo busting Team USA’s chops in the world championship a few years ago. why isn’t he serviceable on an NBA team?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Yeah, where are the idiots that were speaking about a Sheed return?

  • Jeff H

    Kap

Eddy Curry actually just signed on to be a McDonald’s spokesman. It’s probably better that way.

  • T-Money

E: got any intel on UD? end of March? i’m thinking james jones will be completely squeezed out when UD comes back since he’s only playing when bron goes to the 4 right now. the bench would be miller, haslem, ilgauskas, chalmers.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

UD is due to play the first week in April……about a 5 or 6 game lead in to playoff action. I doubt that’s going to be enough time to get acclimated but they’ll give it a run. James Jones and House will be in the same spot….playing when there’s a particular need. I would expect more minutes for House than Chalmers in the playoffs. That’s real.

  • vishal tiwari is a homo

    who cares about murphy

  • JTaylor21

Eddy was just seen leaving the Michelin warehouse and sources said that he’s agreed to become their new spokesman and will be replacing the michelin man.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Eboy – Why would House get Chalmers minutes, what does House give you that his Brother-in-law doesn’t? Bibby is statistically the best “clutch shooter” in the NBA BTW

  • JTaylor21

Cuz EHouse has more cells in his big toe than Chalmers has in his head.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

The ONLY reason Chalmers plays is defense. What does House give you that Bibby doesn’t that makes you play both of them and not Chalmers?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

*Speaking to himself* “I can’t believe so many people are trying to justify Chalmers getting minutes”. nbk…Eddie is a BIG GAME PLAYER/SHOT MAKER. I ain’t harping one shot Rio made in college, I’m talking about over their respective NBA careers (which Eddie has a large advantage over him). Mario is stupid, plain and simple. He makes stupid passes, takes stupid fouls, forces stupid shots, he’s an idiot. The problem has been that at the 1, the Heat haven’t had a better option (well, Skip was until he flaked out)so he gets Spo love minutes like Anthony does. There isn’t a reason now to put up with his stupidity. Going for a title run, cutting out all of the potential baggage is the only route to take. He’s baggage. Like Joel. They both need to stay seated once April rolls around. For now? If they want to keep giving him minutes to bear out the load from Bibby? Good. But I’d bet you’ll see Mario play minuscule minutes, if Spo does what is necassary.

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow

Ya i was the idiot. Rasheed Wallace. heard of him?

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow

He’s 6’11″ F/C. Shoots the 3 and has back to the basket moves… i know he’s kinda a underground name so if u need any help maybe i can google him see if i can come up with anythng.
