Michael Jordan: Derrick Rose is the MVP

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

Given his individual dominance as a basketball player, and the Chicago Bulls‘ strong play this season, Derrick Rose‘s MVP candidacy was already carrying a strong case.

To the delight of Rose and Chicago Bulls fans everywhere, the stud point guard now also has the public support of the game’s greatest player.

Michael Jordan thinks Rose is the League MVP this year, but warns (from personal experience) that the award is by no means a guarantee.

The Chicago Tribune has the quotes:

“MVP of the season,” the Bobcats owner said Wednesday night after the Bulls downed his team 101-84. “He deserves it. He’s playing that well, without a doubt.” Then Jordan offered that sly smile. “And if he doesn’t get it, now he will see how I felt a lot of those years,” the Bulls’ Hall of Famer said.

“I wish man,” Rose said. “It’s great that he said that. It’s an honor. I’m speechless. But I’m just trying to keep winning. The award will come if we keep winning. I’m just trying to play hard and aggressive and with an edge.” Rose said he hopes to pick Jordan’s brains about winning in the future. “You always know when he’s in the building,” Rose said. “His presence is probably the craziest of all the NBA players who have played this game.”

Of course, MJ doesn’t have an official say in the matter. But it would be foolish to think that his opinion won’t matter when the media casts their votes at season’s end.

Not bad for a Chi-Town kid to get such a ringing endorsement from the city’s greatest sports hero.

    His to lose

  • Jahmai Posted: Mar.10 at 10:13 am
You know you’re good when MJ backs you up. Drose 4 MVP!

  • James Posted: Mar.10 at 10:24 am
    Kobe is smarting.

  • toronto Posted: Mar.10 at 10:29 am
nobodys complaining about where slam ranked him in the summer now

  • grenners Posted: Mar.10 at 10:29 am
Concentrate on winning young fella. Get the best record in the East by the end of the season (now looking very possible) and it’ll be your trophy as you’ll have ticked all the disparate boxes for the judging panelists…

  • airs Posted: Mar.10 at 10:31 am
only complaining now is how low they ranked him. shouldve been top 10 at the very least.

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 10:37 am
I said this in January… I got laughed at.
    Intuition, son.

  • Eric Woodyard Posted: Mar.10 at 10:37 am
D-Rose definitely deserves it! He’s been killing

  • Eboy Posted: Mar.10 at 10:39 am
Who cares what MJ thinks. He’s not the end all be all. It only feeds his already inflated ego when people hang on to his every word. If there’s one thing his hall of fame speech taught me, it’s that’s he’s a j*rk with ridiculous sense of self-importance.

  • AL29 Posted: Mar.10 at 10:44 am
Classic MJ- always makes everything about himself.

  • Dagger Posted: Mar.10 at 10:45 am
I still love MJ, but did he really need to say this: “and if he doesn’t get it, now he will see how I felt a lot of those years”?

  • 604 Posted: Mar.10 at 10:46 am
Damn, EBoy. Been sipping on that haterade recently?

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 10:47 am
That comes with the territory of being one of the best — if not THE best — to ever do it, E.

  • Ali Posted: Mar.10 at 10:50 am
    D. Rose just needs to keep doing what he’s been doing, improving every year. A young PG with a crazy upside! Mos Def in the MVP conversation!

  • Bulls2011champs Posted: Mar.10 at 10:51 am
It’s not like he needed this endorsement but it’s gotta feel great having the G.O.A.T say you’re the best the league has to offer in your third year.

  • Bassbesteck Posted: Mar.10 at 10:59 am
@Eboy: then you got his speech wrong. It was about him facing challenges all the time and him working hard to be good enough to face them. It might had been thought of as cocky, I get why, but still it was one of the best speeches I ever heard. Motivational, emotional and, well, really really good. That said: I’m glad for DRose that he got the props, but as it is written in the article, he got no official say in that case, so imho it’s something for DRose to be excited about (maybe he can brag about that in his own inauguration speech)but nothing for fans to be pissed off about.

  • LakeShow Posted: Mar.10 at 11:09 am
    Kobe? eh? Damn…

  • LakeShow Posted: Mar.10 at 11:09 am
    Kobe? eh? Damn…

  • LakeShow Posted: Mar.10 at 11:11 am
Nah Rose def deseerves it. Just sucks for Bean that they don’t throw him a little more attention.

  • jay rose Posted: Mar.10 at 11:16 am
Drose better win it man. Im a big bulls fan but I know and Im pretty sure everybody knows that Drose deserves it. Hes improved every aspect of his game and is having a beasty season. DROSE 4 MVP!!

  • Daniel Posted: Mar.10 at 11:17 am
    MVP with no doubt

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 11:21 am
Guess the rest of the Bulls can quit playing now like LeBron’s teammates did to him. Trust, as much as other people hate him, the Cavs won 61 games, look at their record right now. Miami is a bunch of jealous underachievers. Thats why Mike knows the feeling. Jordan didn’t start involving others players, the other players just got involved when they wanted to. LeBron and D-Wade are just stuck in a “if you guys are so great show us” situation. Like I’ve said before…make a couple Agent Zero threats in the locker room, and come May and June, nobody…NOBODY, will want to play against Miami.

  • Ryan Posted: Mar.10 at 11:29 am
Unless Rose gets hurt and Kobe averages 50 a game for the rest of the season while the Lakers win the rest of their games and overtake the Spurs, D-Rose is your MVP.

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 11:32 am
Don’t believe the hype @Ryan. Boozer just got hurt, so the INJURY PRONE BULLS are once again one injury away from a disaster.

  • Airnest Posted: Mar.10 at 11:37 am
Reaaaaalllly? thats what Kobe has to do to win MVP. damn. ok..

  • KSupreme Posted: Mar.10 at 11:42 am
The only vote that really matters…his airness…we must do what MJ says and thats make DRose MVP!

  • Riggs Posted: Mar.10 at 11:42 am
I dont understand how hard it is for people to comprehend that kobe isnt going to be the damn MVP every year. jeez.

  • Spaceship Jay Posted: Mar.10 at 11:42 am
Word Eboy! He’s only arguably the best NBA player ever. Spending too much free time running an NBA team is rattling his brain. This is the second time in a row were forced to hear him blabbering his foolish opinions; he got that Heat move COMPLETELY wrong last summer too, he needs to keep his mouth shut.

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 11:44 am
KOBE, DIRK, DROSE, LEBRON, DUNCAN…..DURANT??? D.HOWARD??? AMARE???

  • Ryan Posted: Mar.10 at 11:48 am
Everyone expected Kobe and the Lakers to be on top in the West before the season started, so you could argue that they’re actually underachieving so far. Not saying that they are, but you could argue it that way. There weren’t many people who thought the Bulls would be a game out of the top spot in the East with 20 games left. The majority of people had them 4th behind Boston, Miami and Orlando in the preseason.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER Posted: Mar.10 at 11:49 am
MJ doesn’t want Kobe getting another MVP.

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 11:50 am
Black Mamba has been getting shafted lately…2 years to be exact….but I still think Lebron is MVP. Compare numbers, rosters (role players)…and coaches lol

  • bashmo Posted: Mar.10 at 11:52 am
at this point the award is his. With the Heat’s struggles going on at such a crucial stretch in the season, and Lebron’s inability to close the game beginning to be questioned, Rose has this award locked up. As long as they maintain that 2nd seed and the Lakers don’t win every game from here to the end of the season and Kobe doesnt go on a rampage, the MVP is Rose.

  • dsleepy Posted: Mar.10 at 11:54 am
love this kid’s attitude, even despite the high praise. if he keeps his head right the sky is the limit for him.

  • dsleepy Posted: Mar.10 at 11:55 am
…or is mj just being sneaky and giving kobe the fuel he needs to push for it?

  • sid Posted: Mar.10 at 11:57 am
inflated ego? MJ can have as big an ego as he wants. You don’t think he’s right. MJ should have won at least 3 more MVP’s in his career.

  • dev0 Posted: Mar.10 at 12:07 pm
ow just finish the season strong and it’s in the bag D-Rose

  • izzo Posted: Mar.10 at 12:13 pm
There’s no way that was actually Eboy. Unless MJ has recently been rude to him.

  • Double J Posted: Mar.10 at 12:17 pm
hahahah i love comparing kobe’s numbers to drose… robbed on countless occasions

  • Allenp Posted: Mar.10 at 12:22 pm
Apparently Jordan only has problems grasping the obvious when it involves trades…

  • vtrobot Posted: Mar.10 at 12:24 pm
drose also has the advantage of never having won it. everyone loves to give it to someone new instead of giving it to someone else, who’s also very deserving, but who has already won it. nobody finishes around the rim like drose. dude has been balling. great attitude too. good luck, d.

  • Cizzo Posted: Mar.10 at 12:25 pm
D.Rose is the Pride Of The MidWest….. MVP is without a Question is his…..

  • AllDayEveryDay Posted: Mar.10 at 12:32 pm
Why is everyone acting like the closest challenge for Rose is either Kobe or Lebron? And that they have to do this or do that to take the MVP from D Rose? Theres another guy who should be up there as much as Rose, and he goes by the name of Dwight Howard! If Rose doesn’t win MVP, the next most deserving guy deserving is Dwight

  • Cizzo Posted: Mar.10 at 12:32 pm
@Eboy… You think LBJ deserves it? Cut it out? The Heat will be on early vacate while the BUlls make more P.O. noise thatn ever…

  • Harlem_World Posted: Mar.10 at 12:33 pm
Anyone who knows E, knows that wasn’t E. He’s always had a high level of respect for the GOAT. I liked the comment about how many times he got passed over for MVP all those years. He’s right. On my clock, he should have had at least 7 MVP’s during his career. Hope that doesn’t happen to DRose this year. Kid deserves it, hands down.

  • Cool dude Posted: Mar.10 at 12:33 pm
@mars u ever considered the fact that lebron is a terrible team mate Nd makes them worse? Everyone he plays with puts up much lower numbers than before. Arroyo, Jamison, Mo Williams are jus some examples. Even Wade is suffering from it because LEbron takes him out of game by forcing him to stand around. Standing around in a game not involved is terrible for anyone’s form

  • Wall Ball Posted: Mar.10 at 12:44 pm
Kobe is that dude as far as talent goes, by far. His downfall is he still takes bad shots although he’s prone to make some. He doesn’t get his teammates involved in the selfless capacity that he should. He shoots ALL the ball when he doesn’t have to due to a fear of not being mentioned in the best category alongside Lebum and D-Wade etc…The Lakeshow has about four other all-stars thus making them an all-star team…They don’t need Kobe to score 30 a night. On the other hand take young Rose off the Bulls team. See what happens…Rose is easily the MVP of the league and Slam should’ve ranked him higher because I told you two years ago what he would be. Look at the D-Rose blogs and check me out…Wall Ball

  • Eboy Posted: Mar.10 at 12:49 pm
The original comment from me….wasn’t from me. I’m about to say fu*k SLAM and this bullsh*t. Anybody that has ever payed attention to anything I’ve ever written knows I’m the biggest Jordan mark around, so don’t be fooled by Diesel imitations (yes, I know it was you)…I’ve got a hookup, dummy.

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 12:52 pm
@cool dude…yeah he’s a terrible teammate…TEAM USA MVP, 3 TIME regular season MVP. In the process, making his starting lineup all-stars (SEE Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Mo Williams, Anderson Varejao). The only people that are suffering are the fans. DRose is having a good year, but so is Chris Paul at the point guard position. He’s putting up the same numbers, but on lower profile team. D.Howard, DIRK, KOBE..D.Rose is just what you hear everyday.

  • Rocksinmypants Posted: Mar.10 at 1:04 pm
Well I guess that’s settled since Jordan said so. Haha what a D-bag

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 1:07 pm
Anyone who defends role players is wrong. That’s like saying, DRose made Kurt Thomas, or Kyle Korver, or worse Brian Scalabrine’s numbers go down …who care’s, it’s a Kurt Thomas type of role player. Look at whats built around DRose…Carlos Boozer, Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Ronnie Brewer…nothing to sneeze at….im not typing the cavs/miami replica players…not worthy. LeBron’s putting up 28 10 8 with DWade;…that’s it. Dwade should be considered MVP too. But ya’ll hate.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 1:07 pm
    I had a feeling that wasn’t E.
But Diesel? Nah, I can’t see it.

  • Canuck Posted: Mar.10 at 1:22 pm
Are the MVP rankings not basically Rose, then Howard and Nowitzki? Why is any one bringing Kobe into it? In what way has he been more valuable than any of those three guys this season?

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 1:23 pm
Act like you know…they took Boston to seven games last year and ya’ll been glory riding DRose since. Best series ever…SMH…in respects to Notorious B.I.G., ya’ll hypnotized!

  • SpursFan Posted: Mar.10 at 1:29 pm
    Manu?

  • BossTerry Posted: Mar.10 at 1:38 pm
Agreed, and not just cuz the g.o.a.t. said so.. What impresses me about Rose is he is a very complete player this season.. 24 ppg, 4 rpg, and 8 dimes.. Not to mention the Bulls are winning.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 1:40 pm
Who woulda thought the Bulls would have a chance at the number 1 seed in the East??
There were some who thought the Bucks would be better than year!
But with the emergence of Rose, the great coaching of Thibs, and the stellar defense and play of everyone else, the Bulls are looking like a beast.
And it all starts with Rose.

  • ugly_fish Posted: Mar.10 at 1:47 pm
Surprised Jordan endorsed an Adidas guy…

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 1:49 pm
OK jokes over. Monta for MVP! When the Knicks smoke the Bulls in the first round the regular season will mean nothing. Remember how yall judged LeBron, Eastern Conference finals 3 yrs straight.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 1:50 pm
    @Mars –
They lost to the Cavs 4-1 last year.
    “Act like you know”.
    LOL sorry couldn’t help myself.

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 1:50 pm
Look at his numbers, and they’re winning.

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 1:51 pm
    Monta’s numbers 24.8 PTS 5.3 ASTS 3.5 RPG 2.3 STL .352 3P%

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 1:55 pm
@Mars – I hope you’re just messing around, cause damn.
    LeBron?
    Monta?
    Yeah, ok…

  • robb Posted: Mar.10 at 1:58 pm
yeah that didn’t sound like Eboy at all. Anyway, Rose is virtually the MVP and I couldn’t be happier, not only he’s an awesome player, he also approaches the game the right way, on and off court. The kid respects the game.

  • BossTerry Posted: Mar.10 at 1:58 pm
If were choosing a mvp strictly on stats, and not team success, shouldn’t Kevin Love be MVP??

  • BossTerry Posted: Mar.10 at 2:00 pm
Cosign robb.. Dudes just humble, I like that…

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 2:01 pm
    No act like you know @Enigmatic…i just wanted someone else to advertise for me. So, LeBron is SO GARBAGE, he swept Chicago, who had the same record last year, wit boo boo players. anyhow look at these numbers DWade’s numbers 25.6 pts 4.4 asts 6.7 rpg 1.4 stl .307 3p% LJ #’S 26.3 7.5 7.1 1.5 .497 dROse 24.5 8.1 1.1 .336 .841 Black Mamba 25.1 4.8 5.2 1.1 .320 kd 28.2 7.3 2.8 1.1 .463 d12 23.0 13.9 2.3 .599 .588

  • Caboose Posted: Mar.10 at 2:04 pm
Hey Mars, let me make this simple: LeBron is not the MVP. It’s Rose right now, then Howard, then a distant LeBron and Dirk tied.

  • AllBall Posted: Mar.10 at 2:06 pm
Kobe is ahead of Bron ^^
Right now it should be Rose, Dwight, Dirk, Kobe.
    Kobe is climbing fast, however.

  • tealish Posted: Mar.10 at 2:07 pm
    Well, if Mike said so…

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 2:09 pm
nope..im right and you’re wrong right now it’s between Bron and Dirk. Don’t argue, just accept it.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 2:10 pm
    NO….look at THESE numbers:
Miami Heat vs. Boston, Chicago, Orlando, San Antonio, Dallas, LA Lakers – 3 wins -11 losses.
Chicago Bulls vs. same teams (switch Chicago for Miami) – 10 wins – 5 losses.

  • robb Posted: Mar.10 at 2:11 pm
I remember when the season started Rose said: “why can’t I be the MVP?” everybody went: “yeah kid sure you can” but now nobody’s laughing. Two days ago said: “why can’t we get it this year (the championship)” It kinda scared me a little.

  • Caboose Posted: Mar.10 at 2:11 pm
Mars, explain to me in a simple, direct manner why LeBron is more valuable than Rose or Dwight. And Airball, yeah I could probably sneak Kobe in there too.

  • AllBall Posted: Mar.10 at 2:12 pm
    Enigmatic, don’t waste your time.

  • Felix Posted: Mar.10 at 2:17 pm
Finals MVP should be the award people are gunning for IMO… though reg. season MVP would have to be cool for anyone… If Derrick Rose or Dwight Howard win regular season MVP and Kobe gets the finals MVP (though I obviously never met Kobe) I’m sure Kobe is cool with that…

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 2:23 pm
    @AllBall – yeah, you’re probably right…

  • Cool Dude Posted: Mar.10 at 2:33 pm
I got a feeling Mars is just jtaylor on another name. Also @ mars, he is a 2 time regular season mvp, not 3. There also isn’t a Team USA mvp. If there was, it woulda gone to D wade, not lebron.

  • Diesel Posted: Mar.10 at 2:38 pm
@Eboy – As much as I love giving you a hard time, I still have some level of respect for everyone here. I’m not using your name or anyone else’s.

  • AllBall Posted: Mar.10 at 2:39 pm
    lol, that’s not jtaylor.
Finals MVP doesn’t seem to hold as much prestige as regular season MVP, I don’t know why.
Rose is clearly the regular season MVP right now, and i’m not even a fan. He has played big in every big game so far. I’m looking forward to what he does in the post-season.

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 2:40 pm
OK, Silly me, Miami is not way better than last year because of Bron. DRose made Chicago so much better this year. DRose last year 20.8 pts 3.8 rpg 6.0 ast Bulls record 41-41 w/Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich,Tyrus Thomas, John Salmons, Brad Miller..all gone this year 24.5 8.1 1.1 LJ record 61-21 W/ sCrubs 7.3 rpg 8.6 ast 1.0 blk 1.6 stl 29.7 pts (obvious MVP)this year w/ scrubs and another MVP(DWade)26.3 7.5 7.1 1.5
Im just saying players numbers don’t lie, and winning is the truth. Miami was 47-35 last year, 43-21 right now, on a 5 game losing streak

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 2:43 pm
and no, I am not jtaylor

  • AllBall Posted: Mar.10 at 2:44 pm
Mars, you don’t think this year’s Miami team has a higher talent level right than last year’s team?

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 2:48 pm
    Yes I do. Beasley excluded.

  • Diesel Posted: Mar.10 at 2:49 pm
I heard something the other day that of all the MVP’s in the history of the league, only 1 hasn’t been on a first or second place team. That’s why I feel like the voters won’t go with Dwight. That and I think his technicals will hurt him in the eyes of the voters too.

  • sam Posted: Mar.10 at 2:54 pm
Wow, a former amazing player telling a great player that’s playing on the team they played that they should be MVP. This is a first….NOT!

  • Mars Posted: Mar.10 at 2:54 pm
AllBall, I can’t type sarcasm. DRose is having a good year, but their record is because the team is doing well. Miami sucks as a team and are being held together by two MVP’S. This is Nash MVP all over again. Just Leave Kobe and LeBron off the list for MVP cause apparently thy’re too good for it.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 3:00 pm
I’m tired of people always acting like MJ’s word is law, it’s not like he has good judgement of talent.
You never hear Kareem blabbering off at the mouth, same with Bird, MJ, Russell, and other greats. Only MJ feels the need to voice his opinion at every corner. GOAT my a**.

  • Allenp Posted: Mar.10 at 3:01 pm
Yeah, this is in no way comparable to Nash’s MVP’s. Either of them.
And LeBron won the past two MVPs.
Derrick Rose is averaging 25 and 8.
When was the last time a point guard put up those numbers?
Seriously, those are elite numbers and his team is gunning for the top spot in the East despite a host of injuries.
Dude is the MVP easy. His only comp is Dwight, and possibly, Dirk with an outside shot. Chicago isn’t a collection of bums, but they don’t have a talent advantage over Miami. That’s ludicrous.
They are just better coached and they play better together. Period.

  • Dagger Posted: Mar.10 at 3:03 pm
I love Rose, but does anybody find it a bit weird for the MVP to not be a top-5 player in the league? Howard and Durant are right up there for me. Meanwhile, before he missed those clutch shots in the past week or two Lebron was probably the front runner.

  • Allenp Posted: Mar.10 at 3:05 pm
    Rose is better than Durant.
    Yeah, I said it.

  • AllBall Posted: Mar.10 at 3:08 pm
    I’ve been saying it ^^^
At least in my head. Durant was ranked way too high in Slam’s top 50.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 3:09 pm
JTaylor, you ever stop to think maybe reporters seek him out to ask him questions more than they do other former players?
Is it his fault that everytime he’s asked a question, his repsonse is put out there everywhere?

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 3:13 pm
Rose has to be in the Top-5 based on the season he’s having so far. Hell, I’ll go as far as putting him over a guy like DWade because even though wade is a better defender, I have seen wade go through too many lapses on the defensive end to give him that edge.
He’s not better than Bron/Kobe/DHow/Dirk but he’s better at this very moment than DWade/KD/CP/DWill/Melo.

  • Felix Posted: Mar.10 at 3:17 pm
Lay off MJ. We are the ones who told him he’s the greatest (why nobody says Bill Russell? who knows). At the minimum, his opinion has UBER credibility concerning basketball IMO

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 3:21 pm
Maybe that’s the case but I’m tired of the media and fans acting like he’s 100% right on everything. I think that everyone undeservingly crowing him the GOAT has gotten into his head, like the way he said that he should have gotten the MVP every year.
Oh really, so guys like Bird, Magic, CB34, and Malone didn’t deserve their MVPs? Let me guess, he probably thinks that he should have gotten DRob and Hakeem’s MVPs when he was playing baseball? I mean come on, you never hear any other past great talking like that.

  • Felix Posted: Mar.10 at 3:24 pm
^^^^Agree with the “he’s not 100% right on everything”… two words- Kwame Brown

  • just bcuz Posted: Mar.10 at 3:24 pm
oh im taking rose over dirk all day ALL DAY

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 3:24 pm
    Whoever Mars is, he’s funny.

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 3:26 pm
He might be from there, too.

  • Ryan D. Posted: Mar.10 at 3:27 pm
Heard a great joke today. Don’t ever ask Lebron James for change of a dollar because he will never give you the fourth quarter. Leggo.

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 3:32 pm
I don’t know if anyone actually believes that MJ is right on EVERYTHING.
If he felt like he deserved to be MVP in those years that he didn’t get it, that’s fine. He’s entitled to feel that way if he wants…
But it just goes to show that even though it’s still a popularity contest, more than anything, the award is tied into winning.

  • robz Posted: Mar.10 at 3:36 pm
    kobe must be jealous now

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 3:37 pm
Right now the Bulls have a better record than Orlando (Dwight Howard), Miami (LBJ/DWade), OKC (Kevin Durant) and have won one less game than both the Lakers (Kobe) and the Mavs (Dirk), but split the season series with LA and swept the series with Dallas.
So anyone who thinks that anyone besides DRose deserves the MVP is clearly hating.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 3:43 pm
Who’s “clearly hating”? Damn near everyone on here agrees that Rose is the MVP, so I don’t know where you got that idea from.
    Paranoid much?

  • AllBall Posted: Mar.10 at 3:43 pm
I would take Rose over Dirk, but I would also take Wade and CP over Dirk.

  • HAMMER Posted: Mar.10 at 3:45 pm
Jtaylor has a point. But I can’t help but think how do we know bird, magic, malone and barkley don’t feel the same way as mj? Just cuz they don’t voice it don’t mean they don’t. Maybe every gr8 competitor feels they should win it every yr as well. Only diff is that mj voiced his opinion

  • Michael NZ Posted: Mar.10 at 3:49 pm
    MJ is right on this.

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 3:50 pm
When I’m talking to you dude, you’ll know…
But since you want to get all defensive about it, I was referring to MARS.
Stop swerving and stay in your lane, son.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 3:52 pm
I hate it when mommy and daddy fight…

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 3:57 pm
    Not a fight, Enigmatic.
In fact, I pretty much ignore the almost daily subliminal jabs thrown my way, altogether.
But every now and then you have to address people directly who like to throw rocks and then hide their hands.

  • Jerome Posted: Mar.10 at 3:59 pm

Well if you would man up and say dude’s name in the first place instead of taking subliminal shots, there wouldn’t be need for swerving.
Seeing that he’s lacking in the cojones department, I’ll be the dad.

  • Eboy Posted: Mar.10 at 4:04 pm
    Kids today.

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 4:06 pm
    Word, E…

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 4:07 pm
So, after all this talk about Rose averaging 24 and 8, it would suck if he ended up averaging like 23 and 7 for the season.
Which could happen if he has more games where he basically sits the whole fourth quarter like last night.
Still should not deter him from getting the MVP though.

  • HAMMER Posted: Mar.10 at 4:12 pm
@jerome. I just find tracks about players kinda corny. I don’t mind the occassional ryhmes of a player in verses. Those can b pretty tight. But when an entire song is bout 1 player, song loses me. And yes, I am a rose fan. But still……2 each his own I guess

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 4:14 pm
Oh, look it’s Laverne & Shirley or maybe it’s Lucy & Ethel better yet Dumb & Dumber.

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 4:14 pm
I would imagine that voters pretty much already have their minds made up about it by now, Enigmatic.
That’s not saying that things couldn’t change in the last 20 or so games, but typically, when the buzz is this loud at this time of year, it’s settled.

  • LakeShow Posted: Mar.10 at 4:15 pm
I doubt it E. I think he’s hungry enough to keep those numbers up and the bulls need him to play to win. Kobe is only playing 33 mins a game compared to D rose with 37.

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 4:16 pm
E, you can have at it if you want… But my days of going back and forth with simpletons in this section are over.

  • Scott Posted: Mar.10 at 4:17 pm
Rose over Durant. You can’t go wrong with either one. Jordan’s consecutive scoring titles record is probably going out the window. Durant will get number two this year. Really can’t forsee anybody dethroning Durant in the next six years.

  • Eboy Posted: Mar.10 at 4:18 pm
JTaylor…..you coming at me, kid? I put out a comment in general….I referenced no one. I’ll come right at you if the moment calls for it. Be certain of who you’re making claims against.

  • Eboy Posted: Mar.10 at 4:19 pm
Im my world, simpleton is reserved for Spoelstra, so there’s that, B.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 4:24 pm
Who knows Grandpa, who knows. Maybe if people man the f*ck up and state who they are talking to instead of making broad statements, there wouldn’t be a problem. That’s probably asking too much from senile characters.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 4:27 pm
I just never thought I would see the day when a grown a** man needs another man to stand up for him. The male species just suffered a huge L today, oh the humanity!

  • airs Posted: Mar.10 at 4:35 pm
    lolz all around

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 4:37 pm
It’s like old school WCW up in here…
Just when you think Eboy and JTaylor are part of the same stable, it’s revealed that Eboy has joined forces with Bryan Crawford!
“F*CK the nWo, son! I’m rolling with the Wolf Pac!”
Sorry, y’all, but I am bored as f*ck at work. Call me stupid.
    I’ll be dat today.

  • retrobat Posted: Mar.10 at 4:37 pm
@ Eboy. For the record, I thought that comment was out of the ordinary for you.

  • airs Posted: Mar.10 at 4:38 pm
    hahahaha, sawheeeeeeeeet!
    wwf was still way better

  • J-Ro Posted: Mar.10 at 4:39 pm
Do you guys think that IF the Bulls were to lose in the first round, Rose still gets MVP?

  • Bryan Crawford Posted: Mar.10 at 4:41 pm
J-RO, the MVP is a regular season award. It won’t matter…

  • JD Posted: Mar.10 at 4:42 pm
love it how the owner and gm of another team refers to chicago as we

  • Allenp Posted: Mar.10 at 4:43 pm
“Sensitive thugs, y’all all need hugs…”
Stop the foolishness. All of y’all throw shots at each other all the damn time. BC does it. Taylor does it. Eboy does it.
Y’all sound like a bunch of hypocritical broads:
“Who does Becky think she is!”

  • mars Posted: Mar.10 at 4:43 pm
ok geniuses…if DRose went to another team, could he make them a TITLE TEAM…BY himself, thats what MVP means. Im guessing probably not, LeBron or Kobe or Dirk or Dwade could go to any team in the NBA and make them Title contenders. Chance are at a better percentage than DRose. He’s only 22, but if number are your arguement, then where is Rondo’s love??? Don’t disagree cause then you’ll just show even more ignorance.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 4:45 pm
@airs – depends on what era WWF we’re talking about. Back when they had Stone Cold, The Rock and them cats, yeah they were the sh*t no doubt.
Stone Cold was the man, yo! I even taught my daughter how to do the Stone Cold Stunner.
@J-Ro – you mean like when the Mavs lost in the first round the year he got MVP?
    It’s happened before, so yeah.

  • nbk Posted: Mar.10 at 4:45 pm
MVP means most valuable player. It doesn’t mean some erroneously weird definition like he would instantly make any team a title team. Its not The Best Player (TBP) its Most Valuable, look up the word valuable see if it relates at all to best

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 4:46 pm
    *”he” being Dirk. My bad.

  • tealish Posted: Mar.10 at 4:47 pm
^MVP is a regular season award.

  • Scott Posted: Mar.10 at 4:48 pm
Mars…So if Kobe went to Cleveland they would become ttle contenders?

  • Allenp Posted: Mar.10 at 4:50 pm
    That is just horrible logic.
LeBron would not make the King instant contenders, nor would he make the Timberwolves instant contenders.
Hell, did he even really make the Cavs contenders? Lol.
I can’t believe you made that comment. that’s hilarious.
If you would have stuck Jordan on those old Dallas Mavericks teams of the 90s he would not instantly have made them a contender either.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 4:51 pm
I do it just to crack myself up. It’s never personal on my end, don’t know about the other chaps.

  • nbk Posted: Mar.10 at 4:53 pm
    Cosign Allenp @ 3:05

  • Joblo Posted: Mar.10 at 4:55 pm
Who cares if drose wins mvp or not, he has shown he is amongst the best players in the game and shut all the miami fans up too. Seriously though he has everyone noticing the bulls again so he’s doin something right

  • airs Posted: Mar.10 at 4:55 pm
the whole wwe vs. wcw thing was dope. rock and stone cold are back though so im just a bit intrigued

  • mars Posted: Mar.10 at 4:57 pm
It’s like the 80′s when the GOAT (MJ) WAS POOPING on everybody but he got no respect. Missed a lot of game winning shots, but you only remember the Chips, MVP’S, Dunks. LeBron is just too much for the AVERAGE FAN to handle. Does Slam and ESPN dress ya’ll fools too. And I love Slam, but everything is up for debate. Just because MJ said it is even more propaganda. Look at the Bobcats progress or the Wizards for proof.and Kemba Walker is the truth POY. That step back was so gangsta. But ya’ll probably think that Sullinger kid should get it huh? suckas

  • BlackPhantom Posted: Mar.10 at 4:58 pm
Boy this conversation is hilarious. Of course D.Rose deserves MVP, when Bryan Crawford said that a little earlier, I didn’t necessarily agree at that point, I thought he was top-5 at the point but not THE favorite. Now I see where BC was coming from, guy’s a great team leader

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 4:59 pm
    The nerve, is that you?

  • mars Posted: Mar.10 at 5:00 pm
Cleveland went to the finals. Got swept, or won 1 game, but they went. Victim of the Spurs Dynasty.

  • Scott Posted: Mar.10 at 5:01 pm
Mars, so does Kobe make Cleveland contenders or LeBron make Minnesota contenders?

  • Allenp Posted: Mar.10 at 5:06 pm
    Mars
You do realize you said “everything is up for debate” right after you said “if you disagree that just shows your ignorance” right?
You do see the problem with holding those two ideas in your head at the same time right?
    Don’t ya?

  • HAMMER Posted: Mar.10 at 5:06 pm
Oh snap! NWO! That took me back 2 high school. Shout out 2 Sting. Where is he by the way?

  • Allenp Posted: Mar.10 at 5:07 pm
So you believe the Cavs team that lost to the Spurs were legit contenders?
    Honestly?
That’s actually a bit troubling. Scary even.

  • c_cantrell Posted: Mar.10 at 5:10 pm
dwight nor dirk deserve the mvp this season, dirk didnt deserve the one he got.. rose deserves it thus far, but yal cant try to pretend that lbj is not in the race

    The nerve?????? Hell no

  • nbk Posted: Mar.10 at 5:11 pm
or sad, maybe he’s from Cleveland. You have to be delusional living in a place like that as a sports fan

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 5:14 pm
    @HAMMER – dude’s wresteling for TNA last I heard.
I stopped watching wrestling after high school.
I always knew it was fake, that never bothered me cause they had good storylines and they still put their necks on the line.
But the storylines and wrestlers got wacker and wacker….

  • nbk Posted: Mar.10 at 5:14 pm
Dirk deserves the MVP over LeBron. Dwight, Dirk, Rose are the only 3 guys that can/should legitimately win the award. ANd if your unsure about Dirk and Dwight, just look at how their teams play without them. Epitome of valuable

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 5:15 pm
C’mon, C! LBJ can’t be in the race if his team can’t beat the elite!

  • that dude Posted: Mar.10 at 5:15 pm

STILL wrestling!? Damn! How old is he? 50? Haha! Wow. Only time I watch it now is w/my 2 boys. They luv it. I don’t blame them. I use 2 luv it 2. Especially south of the border wrestling back n the day. Crazy acrobatics! But yeah, once u know its fake, it ain’t the same

  • mars Posted: Mar.10 at 5:24 pm
    Wow…DRose is top 5 in 2 years…hahaha AND I sound crazy?

  • BlackPhantom Posted: Mar.10 at 5:25 pm

I was like “Can’t believe hulks gonna die!” And when he didn’t I was fu*kin relieved 2 hear that. And my dad didn’t say anything. He knew it was fake. He coulda told me. Haha! Funny sh*t

  • mars Posted: Mar.10 at 5:32 pm
If DRose went to Cleveland, he’s Monta Ellis. If Kobe went to Minnesota, Golden State, or Clippers they’d win the West. If LeBron went to Washington or Philly or New Jersey, all similar to Cleveland, they’d win the East. DRose is Chris Paul before the knee injury. And Rondo is better than DRose. Sorry fan. Good Fun. This is the hottest topic of the month fo SLAM. Your welcome. Peace. All in GOOD FUN AND DEBATE. no hard feelings ya’ll.

  • BlackPhantom Posted: Mar.10 at 5:33 pm
Rondo isn’t better than D.Rose, he still finds a way to air-ball shots from the top of the key

  • davidR Posted: Mar.10 at 5:38 pm

    What list is this Allen?

  • Allenp Posted: Mar.10 at 5:52 pm
Nah Izzo you can’t be on the list. I like your comments even when we disagree like we often do. You actually try to think.
That should answer your question Black Phantom.

  • BlackPhantom Posted: Mar.10 at 5:55 pm
    Oh ok I got you

  • the Dude Posted: Mar.10 at 5:58 pm
@JT21 “The media” are a bunch of people that must write what other people say or do. That is all.
Words on paper for people to discuss. MJ may be right and he may be wrong, but any writer would be clueless to leave his quote out of a story. Ineresting, topical, timely, celebrity/expert in the field he (MJ) is discussing, etc…

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 6:03 pm
Word! ECW was dope as hell!
Taz and Sabu were my favorites. And the crowd were crazy too.
Anytime someone did anything stupid or dangerous as hell they’d start with their chants.
    “He’s hardcore! He’s hardcore!”

  • HAMMER Posted: Mar.10 at 6:12 pm
@davidr. I had a response 4 u but it dissapeared. Basically saying that as a kid I watched wrestling late 80′s, early 90′s. By 2000 I was done watching it

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 6:27 pm
Hey guys, what’s going on in this— oh lord….

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 6:40 pm
Jukai’s gonna start going on about how wrestling sucks and it’s all about MMA, I bet…

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 6:48 pm
Enigmatic: Wrestling is fine, I got no qualms… but you know I think MMA has it all. It even has Lesnar now!

  • Michael Posted: Mar.10 at 7:07 pm
MMA is the sh*t no doubt

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 7:10 pm
Boxing is better than wrestling and MMA.
    Yeah I said it.

  • Scott Posted: Mar.10 at 7:16 pm
    Boxing is a dying sport.

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 7:19 pm
JTaylor21: I used to like boxing, but I’ve lost interest. Too many weight divisions, too many organizations, too many fighters not fighting each other.
Plus I’ve grown accustomed to the shorter rounds of the UFC, makes for fighters to go at each other a bit more viciously right off the bat.
I still love a great boxing match though. It’s much more technical.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 7:26 pm
    Too much hugging in boxing.

  • LakeShow Posted: Mar.10 at 7:36 pm
K-1 Kickboxing is where its at.
Shout out to Allister Overeem. Friggin beast

  • Ronald Posted: Mar.10 at 7:59 pm
My god, Bryan Crawford thinks so highly of himself that I’m surprised no one had caught him sucking himself off.

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 8:03 pm
LakeShow: I’m a fan. Overeem is sort of a “I’m gonna obliterate you or lose in dramatic fashion” type guy, so he’s always exciting, both K1 and Strikeforce.

  • Michael Posted: Mar.10 at 8:08 pm
Yo JT i think you meant to say “i like boxing more then wrestling and MMA”. You can’t prove boxing is actually better just like I cant prove MMA is better. Its a matter of opinion homie.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 8:09 pm
Overeem must’ve gotten really good since his Pride days when all the Brazilian cats used to beat him down on the regular, then.

  • Pardeep Posted: Mar.10 at 8:18 pm
Called it at the start of the year, Rose will be MVP.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 8:24 pm
Good one Enigmatic, like fighters in MMA don’t hug each other. Jukai, fair points but I much rather watch a great boxing bout any day over a great MMA fight but that’s just me.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Mar.10 at 8:28 pm
Why is it such a thrill to watch people beating each other up?

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Mar.10 at 8:29 pm
I prefer boxing, though. It’s got a lot of history to it. However, the mob/fighters throwing fights/gambling kind of ruins a lot of it.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 8:30 pm
JT – I mean, in MMA yeah, dudes end up on the ground and all, but they’re jockeying for position, trying to get a submission.
In boxing it’s like “I’m tired. I’ma hug dude to catch my breath.”

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 8:31 pm
Michael, good point but I just feel that being a boxer takes more skills, time and effort than it takes to be a MMA fighter. Plus going 12 rounds is twice as taxing as going 5 rounds, it’s based off personal experience.

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 8:31 pm
JTaylor: Yeah man, that is what it’s about. I understand why guys don’t like MMA. Grappling can be hard to appreciate (and many fighters use tire-out, boring tactics) and because you have to defend against so many attacks, the stances and defenses aren’t as technical as a pure art like boxing or kick boxing. But I love it because of its complexities. It’s all good.
Enigmatic: Well, dude really focused on his standup game to the point where it’s bar none (he literally just won K1′s world grand prix! That’s ridiculous for an MMA guy), and he’s just bulked up so much that it’s really hard to control him on the ground.
As I said, he’s sort of all-or-nothing. He’s actually sort of like a really technical Lesnar, he bulls in with his head down, but if you don’t abuse his bullheadedness, yer screwed.

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 8:33 pm
    Also, steroids: www(dot)musclephilosophy(dot)com(slash)home(slash)images(slash)stories(slash)overeem-timeline(dot)jpg

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 8:34 pm
JTaylor: what makes you say it is harder to be a boxer? It certainly takes more stamina, I’ll give you that, but why does it take more skill? I disagree with that, interested to hear yer reasoning.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 8:38 pm
To be fair, I’ve been in plenty of grapples, never an actual MMA match, obviously, but just good old military “get in the circle and try to submit the other guy” grapples.
Whereas I’ve never boxed, so can’t really say which one requires more skill, stamina, effort, etc.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 8:40 pm
    Oh, and pause.
Cause “get in the circle and try to submit the other guy” requires a “pause” afterwards. LOL

  • Michael Posted: Mar.10 at 8:41 pm
Co sign Jukai. The more skill thing comes up often in these debates but I dont see it.

  • Michael Posted: Mar.10 at 8:47 pm
^to clarify, I believe there is just as much if not more skill in MMA as in boxing, though i do have a bit of an MMA/Karate background so i might be biased. I have never done any sort of pure boxing training. I will agree however that a top notch boxing match is(most of the time) a lot prettier to watch then a top notch MMA fight, but that doesnt mean there is more skill involved.

  • Enigmatic Posted: Mar.10 at 8:48 pm
Jukai, what’s the difference between K1 and like, UFC and Pride and all that?
Is K1 just traditional kickfighting rules?
Pardon my ignorance. Never seen K1 before.

  • Dacre Posted: Mar.10 at 8:51 pm
While Rose may get the MVp award….it’s only Kobe who knows how MJ feels to be the best ever.

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 9:02 pm
Michael: I think people get skill and technicality confused. There’s obviously a lot more TECHNICAL techniques in boxing. You can have your arms and legs in a classical position. With the possibility of being grabbed or taken down, you can’t fight like that, your legs have to be more rooted, your arms lower. Some people think it’s sloppy, but it’s the hybrid style of MMA. If you go in and fight with a peak-a-boo stance in the octagon, someone’s slamming your ass on the canvas.
Enigmatic: K1 holds a few occasional MMA competitions, but generally, K1 is one of the premier kickboxing leagues in the world.

  • Michael Posted: Mar.10 at 9:11 pm
    Jukai speaks the truth.

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 9:18 pm
It goes both ways though, if you go into the ring with your hands lowered and your feet flat, you’re going to get your teeth knocked out.
There are TONS of boxers in MMA, they just have to adjust to defend against the other styles of martial arts.

  • Dacre Posted: Mar.10 at 9:21 pm
Sumo wrestling… is that technical… or just uncomfortable?

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 9:33 pm
Jukai, things like footwork, hand-eye coordination, sense of timing and distance, ability to outsmart your opponent. You also have to master the art of deception and the ability to make your opponent fall into a trap.
I mean that’s just a few aspects a person needs to master in order to become a good boxer.

  • Jukai Posted: Mar.10 at 9:39 pm
Dacre: make dem jokes, Lyoto Machida uses some sumo in the clinch!
JTaylor: I know exactly what you’re saying, with head/body dodging and all that, but I don’t think that makes it a more skillful sport… nor do I feel the footwork/hand-eye cordination/sense of timing and distance/outsmarting your opponent is superior in boxing. I just think it takes place in a more obvious, technical, and eye-appealing way.

  • JTaylor21 Posted: Mar.10 at 9:40 pm
I actually have a lot of respect for MMA fighters because it’s no joke taking hits to the head repeatedly, your putting your life on the line whenever you decide to get into combat sports.

  • Michael Posted: Mar.10 at 9:44 pm
    no doubt JT.

  • ii3irty1ii Posted: Mar.10 at 10:50 pm
Rose gets my vote for MVP. I was going to say that Kobe was creeping up on him but after the performance he gave tonight, its ROSE for SURE.

  • dreny4life Posted: Mar.11 at 2:30 am
    Bron Bron is the Mvp

  • Mars Posted: Mar.11 at 5:15 am
    “MVP” Most VALUABLE Player…

  • Mars Posted: Mar.11 at 5:23 am
oh and MMA ARE YOU SERIOUS? GSP OR Anderson Silva all day. Lesnar is a wrestling legend but he aint got s**t on King Kong.

  • Mars Posted: Mar.11 at 5:52 am
@AllenP, thank you for putting me on the list. I was just being honest. @Bryan Crawford, don’t hype it up then don’t vote. If you vote, it shows DRose has loyal fans. oh and it’s the afternoon over here so sorry for the time difference.

  • EJ Posted: Mar.11 at 6:09 am
I’m now 99% sure that JTaylor is Bruceblitz, cause he’s talking about boxing.

  • FLIGHT 9 Posted: Mar.11 at 6:26 am
    D. Rose is the MVP period. case close… Heat will lose in the 2nd round but If they face the knicks in the 1st its another story. Bulls will rep the east baby…..

  • Wall Ball Posted: Mar.11 at 12:34 pm
Shut up Mars…Do you watch basketball? Better yet do you have cable? Do you watch the Bulls…Put D-Rose on the Celtics last year and they win. He’s a winner unlike LeBum…Winners win wherever they are…He doesn’t need Booz although he’s a heck of an addition. If you’ve watched you’ll see that Boozer has missed over 20 games and so has Noah so what do you mean about him playing with all-stars…Booz is undersized why do you think Utah couldn’t win with him in the west. He’s agile but not as athletic as many of the leagues younger bigs. He can’t bang with the Gasol and Bynum. D-Rose is MVP.Tell Lebum to pass the rock to D-
Wade like he did the other night in the closing moments if he wants to win…Its not about numbers Mars, its about what you mean to your team…Take Lebum off the heat and that would force Bosh and Wade to ball…They may even be better…

All you gotta do to see who deserves the MVP is…..take the top contenders for the trophy, see who has won the the most games against the other, i.e. Rose vs LeBron = Rose 2-0, Rose vs Howard = Rose 2-1, etc., then take team total wins and player efficiency. I think that would probably seal it for Rose.
