Mike D’Antoni to Knicks Fans: ‘Take Some Prozac or Something’

With the pressure building in New York, coach D’Antoni advises Knicks fans to chill out, man. The NY Times has the quotes: “Thirteen games into the Stoudemire-Anthony experiment — and 15 games from the finish line — the Knicks are straddling the uncomfortable space between expectations and fundamental realities. The public expects a juggernaut, no matter how many times the Knicks insist they need time to establish an identity. Before the game, D’Antoni acknowledged the fans’ anxiety and tried to calm the waters. ‘It’s great — they care,’ he said, before adding a bit of wry advice. ‘You know, take some Prozac or something. Hang in there. We’re hanging in there. We’re pedaling as fast as we can pedal.’ He acknowledged ‘some deficiencies, some holes,’ particularly on defense — a weakness that has been demonstrably worse since the trade. ‘The biggest thing is not to panic,’ D’Antoni said, adding, ‘We’re not as good as we will be.’”

Hey Pringles man: make them play some defense or something

  • RunNGun

D`Antoni… ever heard of a concept called DEFENSE and FUNDAMENTALS? Yeah, don’t look them up. Just keep on running up and down the court and score-score-scoring more points than your opponents. To the Knicks!

let me tell you knicks fans something, your high-flying overrated act won’t win a title until you learn to play defense. any defense with teeth does not need to worry about carmelo anthony the crying bum, a trip to finals. some writer called new york the mecca of basketball, LOL. i call it the rattrap of losers!! hahahahahhaahhahahaha

D’Antoni’s doing a decent job considering they have no true Center and inconsistency at the 2-guard spot…Great win against Memphis last night Knicks, KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!

Why does Mike D’antoni take shots at anyone who even dares to criticize him? Definitely not a good idea in New York.

  • Josh

He’s right. Knick fans are some of the worst fans in the world when it comes to accepting their team as is and making realistic expectations. Didn’t the Heat start 8-7 or something? Let us calm down for a minute and let this team figure it out.

  • SpursFan

Go get Jerry Sloan, and Phil Johnson.

  • Justin

Another round of idiotic know-nothing comments. Does anyone (except Josh) realize that it takes time for a team to gel? Why do you all think that just because you add some new, very good players, that the team will instantly know how to play with each other and understand the offensive sets as well as defensive schemes? I seem to remember when Michael Jordan came back from his first retirement that everyone was pretty much handing the Bulls the title. That didn’t happen but I don’t recall anyone calling for Phil Jackson’s head. The Knicks were never going to compete for a title this year, but how about at least giving them the rest of this year, next year’s training camp and next season (assuming there is one) to evaluate this team? God forbid a fan should show some patience without immediately calling for someone to be fired because of a bad stretch

I’d like to preface this comment by stating that all losers taking shots at the mecca of all things that actually matter are probably just upset at the fact that their city is most likely some flyover, non-factor in the world. I have news for you: your city doesn’t matter, and you know it!lmao. Anyway, D’Antoni is a damn fool. New York is not Phoenix, or whatever other city he’s coached in. Only those moronic Laker fans know what it’s like to shell the kind of money we do to support our team. He’s an overpaid, consitently losing coach. Someone who consistenly dismisses defense is someone who doesn’t care about winning. News flash: 1st round playoff exits don’t count as ‘winning’. The Knicks will go further the moment they get a coach who forces Carmelo and Amare’s lazy behinds to play D. When your stars commit to D, the others will follow.

Oh yea, Charles Barkely is a fat underachiever who NEVER won a ring.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

    ^ Charles isn’t fat, he’s big-boned..

    2 words “Practice Defense”

  • ClydeSays

Mike, find a simple defensive scheme your players can follow. Zone, something. If this team gets blown out in the 1st round of the playoffs, it’s your job…

All I have to say is that being at the Knicks-Grizz game, in the 7th row was frigging awesome! First real live NBA game for me. I met Landry Fields and had a short conversation with Clyde Frazier. Clyde is even cooler than he seems on TV. Landry is a very nice guy. On another note, Shelden Williams is a total dickhead. He almost knocked over a little kid that asked for his autograph.
