Post Up: Hawks Knockout Bulls

While the Knicks roll over the Hornets.

by Adam Figman | @afigman

Atlanta 83, Chicago 80

How fun is this year’s East? Just when it looked like the Hawks might fade out and the Bulls would streak to the top, this happens, and now ATL is coming off as a legitimate contender. Weird how that works. Al Horford didn’t let the Joakim Noah/Carlos Boozer combo hold him back, as he scored a career-high 31 (plus 16 boards), and finished a pick-and-roll late in the game that gave the Hawks the lead for good. The Bulls had a chance to tie it with clocking ticking down, but both Derrick Rose (12 points, 12 dimes) and Kyle Korver (6 points) missed open looks. So, the question is, if the Hawks can take down the Bulls, who most think at least could take down Miami or Boston, then should we take ATL serious as a threat out East? You tell me.

San Antonio 109, Cleveland 99

Taking advantage of a good opportunity for a rebound game, the Spurs defeated the Cavs with ease last night. George Hill scored 22 for San Antonio, who picked up its 50th victory and upped its League-high record to 50-11. They’re now five games up on the NBA’s next in line, which, in my humble little opinion, is completely wild. Who the hell saw this coming?

Golden State 106, Washington 102

Down 20 in the third quarter, the Wiz looked down and out, but stormed back in the fourth, if only to mock the fans that might’ve bounced from the arena a little early. The Warriors still managed to win, sealing Washington off after three late free throws from Steph Curry, who scored 29 points and distributed 9 assists. The hot-shooting Nick Young led all scorers with 31.

Boston 115, Phoenix 103

The last time these two met, a Kevin Garnett shot to Channing Frye’s nuts upped the stakes, leading Alvin Gentry to say he “lost a little respect” for KG. Well Garnett seems to have remembered, and he’s still none too happy about it. He took out his anger yesterday, scoring a game-high 28 points and pulling 11 boards. The Celts cruised to the W, as Rajon Rondo went for 16 points and 15 dimes, while Ray Allen dropped 19. Boston welcomes the Warriors to town tomorrow.

New York 107, New Orleans 88

After a tough loss in Orlando, the Knicks needed some lovin’, and they got it by crushing the Bees at home. Amar’e Stoudemire (24 points) and Carmelo Anthony (22) both meshed well, while Jared Jeffries‘ return was very Jared Jeffries-esque, meaning there’s no way I can prove he played well by using a simple box score. Chris Paul, who appears to be in a small funk or just entirely unfocused these days, scored only 4, and usual Knick-killer Jarrett Jack led all Hornets with 21. The Bees are now off to Memphis, while the Bockers host the Cavs Friday night.

Minnesota 116, Detroit 105

Kevin Love: 20 points, 20 boards (!). Jonny Flynn: 8 points, 14 dimes (!!). Anthony Randolph: 19 points, 10 boards (!!!!!). And the TWolves won, taking down the Pistons while shooting 52.6 percent from the floor. Strangely enough, Minny has now defeated three of their last five opponents on the road, which, along with Love’s domination, is a small thing to be proud of amidst an otherwise rough season.

Oklahoma City 113, Indiana 89

This game was a massacre, but it’s what took place while the game was already completely out of hand that’ll make the news. With his squad up 21 late in the third, Kevin Durant rolled one of those skinny ankles of his, and went down hard with what appeared to be a sprain of sorts. After some solid deadline moves, the last thing the Thunder need is to lose KD for any significant amount of time, so hopefully that won’t be much of a problem. Durant and Russ Westbrook both scored 21 in the win.

Denver 120, Charlotte 80

At their best, even sans Melo, the Nuggets are still nice. Like, really, really nice. Every Nugget played (and scored), as Denver ran all over Charlotte, dominating them by 40 points and getting double-digit scoring numbers from seven players. They don’t have any real star (um, anymore), but with all that depth, would anybody really want to play the Nuggets in the Playoffs, assuming they hold their ground? Personally, I don’t think so, because these dudes are damn dangerous. The Nugs are now off to Utah, where they play the Jazz tonight.

Portland 107, Sacramento 102

Following a pair of losses, the Blazers responded by taking down the lowly Kings in Sacramento. Wesley Matthews scored 11 of his 21 in the final quarter, LaMarcus Aldridge went for 20 and 10, and Gerald Wallace put in 16 points as he continues to work his way into his new squad’s rotation. Portland currently sits between Denver and New Orleans at sixth in the West, which seems like a reasonable spot for the Blazers to be situated in. Another team that could unexpectedly make some Playoff noise.

L.A. Clippers 106, Houston 103

Welcome back, Eric Gordon. In his first contest back after missing 18 games, EG dropped 24, scoring 9 of them in the final five minutes and leading the Clips to a win over the Rockets. Houston hit a few shots late to keep it close, but Kyle Lowry couldn’t get off a decent game-tying attempt with the final possession, and the Rockets lost for the first time in six games. The Clippers are playing for fun and experience at this point, but the Rockets still have a chance to make a postseason push, which means losses like this aren’t gonna cut it.

Last Call: It’s pretty rare that DRose gets denied at the hoop, but this one time, Marvin Williams got the better of him. Peep:

Derrick Rose solidified his MVP standing last night, huh?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

And the Bulls keep their great run of road game winning going.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Enough of stating the obvious….what the fu*ks up with the Nuggets? These cats are going to be scary in the first round.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Keep telling yourselve Drose is not the leading MVp candidate this year eboy, just f*cking pathetic. Drose had his worst game of the season, the shots he normally makes just didn’t go in, but the Boozer Noah passing game is just something to behold, in the 1st half they were just tearing up Atlanta’s D. Noah vs Horford is always fun, to energy guys, former teammates going at it. Really sucks Bulls lost this game, hope they bounce back and get 2 W’s at Orl & Mia. I’m really suprised how well Amare and Melo seem to work together. Melo moves so well off the ball.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Stepfan

So I’m assuming that everybody is going to say that the MVP right now is Dwight Howard (crazy month in February) after Derrick Rose 12 and 12 night last night? I know how folks on here dont like D rose. Bulls cleary blew this game.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

Let’s be real, the Nuggets have played 4 out of 5 games at home since that trade, winning all their home games against the Grizzlies, Celtics, Hawks, and Bobcats. To be honest, beating a shook Celtics team after Ainge made some trade deadline moves wasn’t all that impressive. The Celtics were short handed that night and played like a team that just got back from a funeral for one of their fallen comrades. In the only road game the Nuggets played since the trade they got beat by the Blazers at the Rose Gareden. In the next 8 games for the Nuggets 7 of them are on the road. During this stretch is when the wheels come off for the Nuggets, and they come back down to earth. Call it a hunch.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Nope, it’s Drose-LeBron for MVP, don’t see any other realistic outcome, not that Dwight isn’t deserving, he’s a beast, but it’s def between Rose and LeBron.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

The Bulls aren’t leaving Florida with a win. Mark it down.

  • rik

    “Loves domination”..?! really…

  • rik

    “loves domination”…? really…

  • Max

Can Mike Beasley, Randolph, and Love play great together?

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

It’s Rose-LeBron right now but if Orlando catches the Bulls or Heat, it should be Dwight.

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

does anyone else find it awkward that Jared Jeffries ans Melo are now on the same team

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

BTW, Melo’s dime to Ronny Turiaf last night was SICK! And Toney Douglas…SMH, he played some great DEFENSE on CP3 last night and operated very smoothly at the offensive end…As “you” can see Billups is already rubbing off on him. And Props to Donnie Walsh, Jared Jeffries was a GREAT GARBAGE MAN pickup! Bottom line, I’m thoroughly enjoying the process of watching my Knicks jell before the real season starts. I CAN’T WAIT for those pesky Cavs Friday night. lol

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

Eboy’s right… the heat are def. gunning for them now. I think this is when the heat absolutley goes after the bulls. and yeah it’s Drose-Lebron for mvp

  • http://www.slamonline.com Stepfan

    @Max to answer your question…..NO!!!

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

TIME FOR SOME MVP REAL TALK: No slight to anyone else in the current MVP conversation, but to give the 2010-11 MVP award to anyone not named Dwight Howard is an ABSOLUTE CRIME! Dwight Howard is doing what Shaq did in his prime, and that is dominate at both ends of the court.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Ridiculous to say Bulls are not going to win at Orlando, if anything they’ve showed up for every big game since 2nd half of january, win over Boston, win over Magic (while Drose has 2 stomich ulcers) win over Lakers, win over Miami (twice) win over Dallas, win over Spurs. Besides they’re no 3 in the East, Magic no 4. And you’ve always got a 50% chance your prediction is coming true, so you don’t have to be talking sh*t when they do win.

  • http://bulls.com airs

please. derrick underperformed last night and they still only lost by 3. anybody questioning his mvp status is severely bitter for some reason. probably because he beat their team, repeatedly. bulls get that win this sunday

  • mj23

Horford had a career game, and still the game went down to the wire. Despite Rose having his worst game of the season, they still had a chance to tie at the end. The only bright spot was the 12 assists. BTW, MVP is based on the entire season, and not just one game. Everyone has a bad game every now and then. Look at Lebron and D-Wade, they have had several this year.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Bulls were brilliant in the first half.
    Horrible in the second.
Rose played like sh*t, but it’s downright stupid to take one game out of 82 and say he doesn’t deserve the MVP because of it.
    And you know that, E.
Also, Bulls WILL win one game in Florida. I won’t say both. But I’m pretty confided they’ll get one of two.

  • http://slamonline.com datkid

i could see the bulls going in on the magic..

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/2011 Diesel

Eboy – you really are a b*tch. DRose has one bad game and your old a$$ can’t wait to talk sh*t. Yet the Heat have multiple bad games and you’re the first one on here waiting to make fun of any 13 year old that challenges your team…talking about how one game doesn’t matter. Go get a life. Spend some time off the computer.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    Hi.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I’m a b*tch but your team bi*ches out on the road. Sucks to be you more than it does me.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/2011 Diesel

No Eboy it definitely sucks to be you more trust me. Either A) You really believe what you said, and that makes you an idiot. Or B) you don’t believe what you said and you’re on here trying to get a bunch of 13 yr olds riled up with your statements, which makes you about the equivalent of those guys on to catch a predator. Like I said, do everyone a favor and take a break. Stop being the first comment on every article. Go spend time with your wife or something, I’m sure she’s deprived. You’re 40. And to answer your comeback – your team only b*tches out against the good teams. That’s much better.

  • mj23

It should be noted Horford hit his first and probably last 3 pointer of the season. He was an absolute beast last night, but Bulls should have still won this game. D-Rose said after the game, “The game was definitely on me. … But I guarantee it won’t happen again.” They sounded real mad after the game, and I think they’re going to go off on the Magic.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Man, I could give a fu*k about the Bulls or whoever, just like you could give a fu*k about the Heat, so shut your pu*sy hole, Diesel, and rub rose petals on your nipples to make yourself feel better or whatever it is you do as you pleasure yourself to the sound of Stacey King’s voice. And who the f*ck said D-Rose can’t win the MVP? I said his chances took a hit and I meant it. Just like Lebron’s do whenever he fails in a late-game situation. Between him and Rose this season, they both suck at last second closeouts, so stop suc*ling the teat and open your eyes. Is he a top three contender? Of course. Can he win it? Sure? But if they have a below .500 record on the road by the end of the season, his MVP stock is going to be suspect. Just like if the Heat don’t finish 1st in the East, Lebron’s chances are shot. You’re too much of a homer to see that sh*t.

  • Bruno

why do you bother yourself, everyone knew what eboy was gonna write today after the bulls lost because I don’t know what is more predictable heat’s ofense or eboy’s comments after one of the teams he doesnt like lose

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Diesel, not sure what my wife has to do with it…so since you responded like a b*tch, one can only assume what your lifestyle choices are.

  • http://bugmarley.com Leonel

    Haha..nice comeback eboy..not!

  • mj23

Eboy – why do you hate D-Rose so much?

  • Adam

Horford was great to watch last night. That was a awful miss by korver in the end game, i thought i was watching lebron.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

And there’s the epitome of the modern day Bull fan (all of a sudden they’re rewriting history)a couple of decent seasons and now it’s 1996 again? So you go personal on people that criticize their team and that’s your comeback? The epitome of the internet tough guy, Diesel the Bit*ch. Scary.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/2011 Diesel

Eboy – your entire existence on these threads is about acting like a b*tch and you’re going to call me out? But Eboy’s just a character right? 40 year old dude acting out a character. Are you wearing a cape and mask while you type?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I like Derrick Rose and his game….I hate his bi*ch fans. Most of the guys above me fit that description. Enigmatic is the only one that doesn’t.

  • http://bugmarley.com Leonel

“Between him and Rose this season, they both suck at last second closeouts.”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeIw5Dgw0mM

  • Squirrel7

Actually, sucks more to be you. As you’re the b*tch, whereas he isn’t personally. I’d rather my team such than suck myself.

    So good logic there.

And if anyone fancies themselves an internet tough guy, it’s you!

  • T-Money

did anybody catch rondo’s move at the end of the game when he pulled up for a 3 at the buzzer with his team leading by 10? dudley put him on his a– and sent him to the line. what a d-ck.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Nah, Diesel, no cape and mask, you seem to be bothered alot by Eboy though, so who’s got the real problem, b*tch? You’re fighting with a screename, dummy. Think about it, tough man.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Another tough guy named Squirrel. This is becoming a land mine of douchebags.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/2011 Diesel

I know Bruno – I just figured just once he might have taken the high road. He’s one of the people always complaining about all these threads being the same conversation and everyone being idiots and not talking about basketball. And then he comes with comments like that to start off the threads.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-confidential/2011 Diesel

I’m not going to turn this into a hundred comments of everyone making fun of eachother. Just wanted to get that off my chest. I’m out of here so feel free to make fun of me or make ridiculous basketball related comments.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Read the second half of my 10:35a comment, homegirl and debate it. Or not. You’re dense regardless when it comes to self-criticism of your squad or your favorite player, so what’s the point?

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Leonel, that’s a nice pull….but show the 5 or 6 times that he didn’t finish. I could pull the tape of Lebron making two free throws in Portland to send that game to overtime but I’d only be fair if I set up the several ones he hasn’t finished (including two in the last two game they’ve played).

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Must be full moon; oh wait, one of the Slam comment section’s lightning rods played, cue the back and forth.

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

How about Vince milking yet another injury? I have no doubt it hurt, but man any other player lies prone like that, i’d be worried. Not with Vince.
Like the great DocFunk once captioned on a VC pic, “ow my wristknees. No, my heartspleen”.

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

im with Diesel… Eboy is by far the most obnoxious commentator… he lives for this type of ish

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

meloman, I guess I’m taking up the most hated role like the team I support has. I guess I’ll have bad karma too.

  • T-Money

bibby will not start tonight. you suck, spo.

  • http://Philosophervision@blogspot.com The Philosopher

    LONG… LIVE… THE KING.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

T-Money, I think his first start may be Sunday against the Bulls. They have the back to back with the Spurs tomorrow, so he’ll have two games in and another day of practice to acclimate himself. I’m fine with it. I bet the minutes will be close to even tonight and tomorrow but I think Bibby pulls away on Sunday.

  • T-Money

i hope he plays the last 5 minutes of the game regardless. that’s where miami has had problems with the offense. so, it seems like house will be the odd man out (the coaching staff sure does believe in rio).

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Eboy’s taking mental notes of everything bad said about him.

  • Mike from Spain

Eboy sometimes gets carried away calling other commenters b**ches, but this time the event that triggered all the sorry exchange was actually quite a fair commment… I side with Eboy in the original comment about DRose, the rest of the thread is just not my style of dealing with opponents who just don’t talk sense. I mean, Eboy still put DRose in the top three for the MVP run, why is he hating?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Cosign Darksaber, is it bad that when that happened I didn’t care so much that I found it a perfect opportunity to go grab something to eat? And to my delight when I got back with my French Bread Pizza the game was coming back on.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

oh yeah, and anybody else wanna question whether or not Kirk Hinrich is still an elite defender?

  • http://slamonline.com Krishan

I remember when Eboy said in a Post Up that he doesn’t cry like Laker or Chi fans do. But these definitely look like tears to me. Go figure.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

@T-Money – I would have socked Rondo in his jaw

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Holy f*ckballs! I leave the Post Up to go on my hour long trek to work, come back and it’s a warzone in here.
Anyways, first of all, co-sign the hell outta nbk’s 11:54 comment.
There’s a reason Hinrich got like a 5-minute standing ovation his first game back at the UC earlier this season.
Dude is a great assest to any team on the defensive end.
I won’t say he was the sole reason Rose struggled last night, Rose missed plenty of easy shots after getting past Hinrich, but Rose had to work like hell to get past him, and unbelieveably, there were quite a few times Rose couldn’t get past him at all.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I still contend that NO ONE IN THE LEAGUE guards D-Wade better than Hinrich. If the Bulls kept him in the mix, I would be more fearful of their ability in a series. He was that good against him.

  • http://bulls.com airs

im glad kirk got out of that sinkhole in washington and is at least getting that playoff money. wish there was some way we couldve kept him, watson ain’t cutting it for me

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Exactly there is not such thing as a “stopper” there just are guys that will make you absolutely work for everything you get on the court, Hinrich, Tony Allen, Shane Battier, & Luc Richard Mba Moute make guys work harder then anyone in the league IMO.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Also, Eboy, I do take issue with one thing you said.
You said you could give a f*ck about the Bulls.
    That’s just not true.
Well, literally it is true because it means that you do give a f*ck about the Bulls, but it’s not true in the context you meant it, i.e. you don’t care about them.
Ever since this summer when Bulls fans and Heat fans (well, you and to a lesser extent Cheryl, cause let’s face it, there were no other Heat fans on here prior to last July)were on here debating over which free agent would go where, I guess Bulls fans have just rubbed you the wrong way, and you’ve loved to capitalize on every Bulls loss and every bad game by Rose ever since.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I think that stems more from Eboy’s little rivalry with BC

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Enig, if you want to look at it that way, I guess you’re correct, but I guess it meant it in a Tupac kind of “I don’t give a fuck” way. It’s just annoying how after seasons of mediocrity, the Heat can’t be given credit for making huge moves, but are downtalked every step of the way ’cause they did it in a way never done before ie: not acceptable to everyone else, yet every other team that has made steps forward are basically given head at each turn of the page by the press and their used to be invisible fanbases. And I’m not even talking about the Bulls in this instance.

  • tRay

To be fair to both Heat and Bulls fans some of you guys just over analyze every win/loss of each team. When LeBron misses a last second shot then it’s “he’s not clutch” and if DRose has a bad game it’s “he’s not a top point guard or not the mvp”. These threads involving Heat, Bulls, and Laker fans are just ridiculous at times. You may not like each other but damn at least show some respect.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Maybe. To an extent. But they weren’t even on each other’s radars back in late June when Eboy was already taking on all Bulls fans.
Not until LeBron actually signed with Miami, then BC’s dislike of LeBron clashed with Eboy’s dislike of the Bulls.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

DRose is still the MVP, evidence by last night’s collapse and his horrible game. Not much illustrates how valuable a player is like losing a big lead when he plays horribly. Unless you would call him the anti-team player, but his teams record would immediately prove that wrong.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Oh maybe my non-fandom had me ignorant to all that. I didn’t notice Eboy calling out the bulls every chance he got till mid-late november

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Al Horford was a beast last night.
Also, one thing that really bothered me about the game last night was when Boozer, for some stupid reason, committed that hard foul on Horford that could’ve been called a flagrant.
Zaza Pachulia immediately pushed Boozer, some other Hawks got in there, and meanwhile you had Deng, Korver and Noah kinda/sorta getting involved but not really.
I keep hearing all season how tight the Bulls are, and in-game they do have great chemistry, and off the court they do get along great with one another.
But where I’d love to see an improvement is seeing them have each other’s backs more in these types of situations.
Someone should’ve gotten in Zaza’s face. Push him as well. Bulls need an enforcer bad. Kurt Thomas circa 2002 would be great. Kurt Thomas circa 2011 ain’t cutting it.
Maybe I’m making a big deal outta nothing, but I still can’t get over the fact that when Shaq fouled the hell outta Rose in an earlier Bulls/Celtics game, not one Bull did anything.
    Get in Shaq’s face.
    Scared of Shaq?
Foul the hell outta Rondo next trip down the court.
Do something to have your teammate’s back. Damn.

  • Allaround33

    DRose fans are sensitive!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I said this a while back, but Kyle Korver misses a lot of shots for a knockdown shooter. I know his percentages are usually great, but c’mon son. An airball?

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

^ I was thinkin the same thing, how can you shoot it that short?

  • http://bulls.com airs

i just think most of the dudes on the bulls, minus noah, are pretty chill and non-confrontational. and seeing the way T’s are being handed out this year maybe its best they dont. but i do see your point Enig, last thing i remember was hinrich getting in rondos face. i remember kurt thomas earlier this season complaing to the ref about a gilbert arenas elbow instead of just laying him out next time he drove in.

    oh,and how do you italicize?

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

    Man, Eboy is my guy!

Allen, I said the same thing last night… An airball, son?!
    On a WIDE OPEN trey?!
That’s what they pay you for. Sigh…
It is what it is though, on to the next one.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

BC, we don’t have to go to Miami, we can go to a ton of other spots and sell Metamucil on the low….straight cash, kid!

No….that’s a lot of work to italicize.

Not in Florida it’s not, B. Enig, what’ up with Rasual? Is he playing tomorrow?

  • T-Money

allenp: so true on korver. the thing is, it seems like he shoots the same percentage regardless of if he’s open or not (as opposed to a guy like mike miller who’s not that great with a hand in his face but shoots over 50% when he’s wide open).

  • T-Money

mike bibby is that way too: seems like he never misses a wide open 3, and NEVER hits a contested one.

  • dsleepy

horford is really coming into his own.

Did someone just say that DHow is doing what Prime Shaq did.
Really so when did 23/14/2 equal 29/13/3? Please, superboy will never comes close to achieving the kind of numbers Orl/LAL shaq put up, never.
Al Horford was abusing Noah last night and it amazes me how the Hawks choose to run isos for sorry a** JJ instead of forcing it down low to Horford on every possession.
I will keep on saying this; JJ is an overrated, over-payed bum. I rather have an injured BRoy than his a**.

hmm, i suppose i dont need italicizing in my life haha.

  • iSwag24

d-rose sucks at last minute closeouts? do you not remember the 3 he hit to win the game earlier on this season? i agree with lebron being the anti-clutch tho…got BLOCKED by STAT, then missed the 3 simply cause STAT was giving him the eye..

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Actually, I’m moving to Miami this summer. No lie. Wanna be my roomie, Eboy?

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

My damn comments aren’t showing up this morning.
I bet this one will though, of course…

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

So 23/14/2 is VASTLY different that 29/13/3? So much so in fact that it’s not even comparable?
    Well, alrighty then…
A big glass of haterade has been spilled in the room… Watch your step, people.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Kap may or may not make it past 3 months of existence in Miami if he tries that Laker rhetoric in full view for all to see.

  • http://slamonline.com Kap

Sorry to disappoint but that was not me who posted that.

  • JTaylor21

So I’m guessing that avg. 6 more points a game isn’t a big difference, Einstein. Stupidity from so-called basketball experts never cease to amaze me, I’m guessing you’re the scholar that left out Gail Goodrich too.

  • T-Money

BC: there IS a ginormous difference between 29 ppg and 23 ppg. 6 points, on average, is a big deal – the difference between how KD scores and how a guy like Aldridge scores. And Shaq averaged 29 ppg in his SECOND year. Dwight didn’t even break 20 ppg until his 4th year. Offensively, these guys are not even in the same zip code.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

OK, so prime Shaq was a better scorer than Dwight Howard is now.
But we could also make the argument Howard is a better rebounder than pre-prime and prime Shaq was.
13+ rebounds per game in four of Howard’s seven seasons.
Shaq averaged 13+ boards in three seasons for his entire career.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

And for the record, no, I don’t think Howard will ever be as great as Shaq was, but since we’re talking strictly stats at this point, the two are comparable.
Shaq was dominant beyond what stats can tell you, though.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

It can be said that Shaq was more gifted offensively yet a lazy player and Dwight is not lazy but less gifted on offense….therefore making Shaq the greater player by a large margin. Why? Imagine if Shaq wouldn’t have played lazy? He had the talent. I’m not sure if Dwight will ever be able to raise his overall offensive talent level to Shaq Prime numbers.

  • JTaylor21

I’ll give you the rebounding tip and the slight defensive edge to DHow but everything else Shaq’s better at. I will even go as far as to say that Orl Shaq is the better athlete between the two.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Shaq played 3 years of college basketball, so that gave him time to develop physically and also refine his game.
So by the time he got to the NBA, he was ready to dominate. It also didn’t hurt that nobody in the game could really match up with what he brought to the table from a physical aspect.
Dwight’s circumstances are obviously different coming straight from HS and having to learn the pro game on the job, so to speak. So that being the case, me personally, I’m not going to make a huge deal over 6ppg when everything is pretty much the same from a numbers base.
Obviously, Shaq from a skillset perspective is better than Dwight, but numerically, it’s not that big of a difference.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

And no way in hell is Shaq a better athlete that Dwight Howard. Now that’s just stupid.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

“Sha bing, bing, bing…baseline fadeaway, like Bernard King”

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Dwight never rapped like Shaq neither.

  • JTaylor21

Aight, keep fooling yourself Rose Petal. Dude was damn near 300lbs in Orl and he was just as quick and agile as a 270lb DHow. Also Bron came out of HS like DHow and he was dominant by his second year, so that lame excuse holds no water.

  • T-Money

Even on the rebounding thing, I’d say that Dwight’s desire to rebound is greater – not necessarily his ability. Shaq averaged 14 and 13 boards a game (Dwight-like numbers off the bat) his first two years in the league and then got lazy. BC: Forget stats, forget circumstances – you’ve watched prime Shaq wheel n deal on the block and you’ve watched Dwight. Be honest… it’s not even close. And in terms of athletic ability, Dwight jumps higher than Shaq ever did but I’m not sure he runs faster than a skinny Shaq and he’s certainly not as nimble on his feet and agile than a young Shaq.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Shaq’s game invented the term “Beast”. True story.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    that was most definitely Wilt

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    Wilt was a tornado….Shaq was a hurricane.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

I acknowledged that from a skillset perspective that Shaq > Dwight, did I not?
And you can’t just arbitrarily dismiss the circumstances either. It’s obvious that the 3yrs in college Shaq spent, he was devolping his low-block game. Dwight spent the same amount of time developing his body.

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

    I’m the hooper, the hyper

When I rock the hoop yo, you’d better decipher
In other words you’d better make a funky decision
Cause I’m a be a Shaq knife, and cut you with precision

When it comes to money, I’m like Dick Butkas
    Now who’s the first pick?
    Me, word is bond
Not a Christean Laettner, not Alonzo Mourning
    That’s okay, not being bragadocious
    Supercalifragelistic, Shaq is alidocious
Peace, I gotta go, I ain’t no joke
Now I slam it, jam it
    And make sure it’s broke

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

I hope you didn’t recite that from memory matic….

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

Hell no. Hadn’t heard it since I was like 10.
But I remember it being pretty lame.
Had to dig it up on google.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

    lol good to know

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I mean, it’s not ludicrous to bring Howard up with Shaq, but it’s not like it’s a difficult choice to make. There hasn’t been this dominant a center in the League since Shaq in his prime (Duncan is a forward) so I can see the comparison.
But, Shaq was more athletic for the fact that he moved a lot more bulk more fluidly thatn Howard. And while Shaq didn’t get up exactly as high as Howard, he still got UP when he first came in the league.
Howard is the better help defender, shot blocker, rebounder. Shaq is the better scorer, man-to-man defender, and passer. He’s also more impactful as a player, as least so far.

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

Plus Shaq invented his own form of Karate, Shaq-Fu and turned it into a video game. Shaq and MJ are the only two player I can think of with their own video games…any others?

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow

lol. Thank you Enig. I will bump that in my car from time to time. Got the album from a pawn store about 6 years ago haha

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

Hmm, which NBA player could have the best video game? Chris Andersen could have Angry Birdman, you shoot a plethora of tattoos and knock down scattered Big Birds?

  • http://slamonline.com The Fresh Prince of Nsam

What’s up doc? (can we rock)
Thanx Enig, I used 2 love that song, but honestly more the Chip Fu verse…

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

Please don’t compare Dwight of now to the Shaq of his prime. It isn’t even fair to Dwight, that’s like comparing Robin to The Incredible Hulk

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

@Nicolas Fleming – Barkley’s Shut Up and Jam! and Bill Laimbeer’s Combat Basketball are two others.
My Shaq jam back in the days used to be “Biological Didn’t Bother.” LOL

  • bdub

Shaqs Rapping is horrible. Shaq was better no contest but BC makes fair points. JTaylor has hate for Dwight no question….Beginning of the season he was hating on Dwight hard…..

  • http://www.slamonline.com Stepfan

How about we compare acting skills instead of stats. Shaq should have got an Oscar for his performance in Blue Chips. Can’t even type this with a straight face. But way better than Dwight Howard in Just Wright.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

I’m sure the hate he has for Dwight is probably rooted in the fact that Howard is pretty much always making fun of LeBron.
He doesn’t like it when you talk bad about or make fun of Bron Bron. He takes it personally.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    co-sign Bryan Crawford

  • el_larsen

when kg,pierce, bron wade, howard, fail we say it .last night d rose failed.once again he took 10 more shots than boozer ,just to made same nb.
i really think he isn’t the most valuable player this season.

well ,ej eric gordon is back on track,so welcome back the bomber

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

And the most ridiculous NBA news headline of the day award goes to the Canadian Associated Press for this gem:
“Bulls sign Rasual Butler in hopes he can push them to top in Eastern Conference”

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Enig, is tat an actual headline????

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

    *that

  • http://nobulljive.com/ Enigmatic

    Yeah it is. Google it.
Rasual Butler – Chicago Bulls superstar!!!
    LMAO

  • JTaylor21

The clown who would probably slit his wrist and throat if someone says anything negative about DRose is talking about me taking it personal, oh the irony. By the way, no one hates DHow, I’m just not a big fan of guys that blatantly copies another player’s persona. It doesn’t surprise me that you are defending DHow so valiantly because we all know that you’re a fan of the biggest copycat in the L.

  • http://Slamonline.com LakeShow

Dhow’s gunna be murderin tha heat tonight. RIP Joel Anthony

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

    Haha…

  • Michael

haha eboy, biggest double standards, bulls lose a tight game and your talking ish straight away. What impressive wins do the heat have this season, besides the lakers? How clutch has the big two and a half been this season? haha the first sign of an elite team and the heat fold like little b*tches. Have fund watching your team beat up on the bad teams and then fold in the play offs.

LeBron James solidified his MVP standing tonight, huh?
    Sorry, couldn’t help myself.
    It’s all love, E.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

I don’t see why yesterday should have hurt DRose’s MVP standing. He’s still the #1, #2, and #3 reason that team is that good. Give some credit where it’s due. Kirk Hinrich shut him down all night and Al Horford played twice as good as usual to make up for Josh Smith being out. Instead of denigrating the Bulls, give the Hawks props for becoming legit ever since the trade.

  • bdub

I would like to give Teddy the Bear some cred for his Toney Douglas love. Looks like he is starting find his grove

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

Getting the popcorn ready, not much longer till the show (the comments on TPU wrap-up of last night’s 2 games) is posted.
    This should be good.
