Post Up: The Sound of Revenge

Cavs overcome LeBron’s triple-double, take down Heat.

by Adam Figman | @afigman

Cleveland 102, Miami 90

It didn’t exactly make up for The Decision, but for the time being, Cleveland fans have something to rejoice over. With an absolutely rocking Q Arena carrying them all game, the Cavs held onto an 11-point halftime lead and surprisingly bested the Heat, despite LeBron James‘ 27-10-12 triple-double. During the stretch, Baron Davis (10 points) placed his squad (and the whole building, for that matter) on his back, putting in some huge buckets and finding JJ Hickson (21 points, 12 boards) for an open dunk in the final minutes, capitalizing on a crucial possession. The whole scene—led by Dan Gilbert’s smiling face, front and center—was just absurd, but the Cavs certainly earned it, shooting 55.6 percent from the field and coming through when it mattered most. Mike Bibby (23 points) played well, but Chris Bosh’s 10-point, 4-board disappearing act just isn’t going to work. The Heat are now off to Washington, while the Cavs—well, no reason to look toward the future. Cleveland can just enjoy this one for a few days. Or longer.

Houston 112, New Jersey 87

Houston pulled within two games of Playoff contention last night, routing the Nets in Jersey. Kevin Martin led ‘em with 20, enforcer Chuck Hayes scored 8 and pulled down 14, and Kyle Lowry put up a solid 16-7-10 line. The Rockets will now head to Philly, where they’ll look to continue their mini-run and inch closer to that eighth spot.

Oklahoma City 115, Golden State 114

After the Warriors made a miraculous six-second (or so), six-point comeback in the final ticks of regulation, Kevin Durant (39 points) took over, scoring 8 of his team’s 9 OT points and leading OKC to the win. Monta Ellis (20 points, 11 dimes)—who hit the shot that sent the tilt to extra time in the first place—had a chance at a game-winning J, but it rimmed out. The W was the Thunder’s fourth straight.

Sacramento 116, Phoenix 113

Despite all the off-the-court drama, Marcus Thornton and the Kings focused up long enough to take down the Suns in an arena they probably won’t be playing in for much longer. Thornton scored a game-high 24 and grabbed a personal career-high 11 boards, while DeMarcus Cousins put in 17 and dished out 8 assists (!). The Suns are now four and a half games out of postseason positioning, having watched their chances of playing into May all but fade these past few weeks.

Last Call: This shot was initially waived off, but eventually counted. You see, the clock hadn’t stopped after Christian Eyenga’s three and it appeared the ball left Bron’s hands too late. But it was eventually fixed, and yeah: Nice shot, dude.

Dan Gilbert solidified my view about him: dude is a b*tch. His tweet afterward was also b*tch made.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I didn’t hear about Gilbert’s tweet, but the Cavs whipped the Heat’s ass. No lame excuses. They just outworked them and wanted it more. for a moment, I felt happy for the Cavs fans to have something to celebrate after such a sh*tty season. Always feel good for Byron Scott too….solid coach, wish he was in the ranks here.

  • Werd

I wish I could erase all the losses and just keep the Cavs wins over the Lakers, Celtics and Heat this season.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Is it true that Gilbert kept Lebron’s kids from entering the building yesterday? I read that this morning, but I can’t tell if it’s just someone’s made up tweet.

  • Bruno

wow they lost to cleveland??? they got beat by cleveland????

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Their season has been over for about a month anyway, so these are just practice games, Bruno….didn’t you know that?

  • Zabba
  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

LeBron in the post is just unstoppable. Yes, he could get alot better there and go there more after, but I like the fact he’s trying. It’s nice for Cavaliers fans to get this W, after having all the misery this season, it’s OK if something good happens to ‘em. Steph Curry really likes playing OKC, and I really like to watch Steph Curry shoot.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

    *more often.

  • KwamePooh

as a cavs fan i was happy bout the victory but at the same time im askin myself why they arent playing with that kinda passion and heart more often…

  • Bruno

hell no, this’s just gettin’ started … and I want the Heat to win more games so they end up being second place in the east

  • MUBWAR

Cavs did outwork the heat last night. N that 7 footer and hickson were just blockin shots left n right. How is Dan planing to get stars with that type of tweet. An ignorent moron who should say thank you to LBJ 4 all billions. Wait till his fans turn on him

  • JTaylor21

Like I’ve said all season long and was castrated on this site for; Bosh is MIA’s most important player. The majority of time they win, he usually has a good game and the majority of time they lose, he struggles out there.
It doesn’t mean that he’s their best player but their wins and losses are directly tied to his on-court performance.
It’s the same thing with the Lakers, Kobe being the best player while Gasol’s the most important. Same thing with OKC (KD best player, Russ most important), hell we can even go back to the 90s Bulls. It wasn’t until Pip became a great player that the bulls started winning chips.
Now if Bosh plays well in the playoffs, Mia has just as good a chance at winning the chip as any team but if he struggles from time to time, that becomes a little harder.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Bosh has played well since his 1-18 game in Chicago. Players have off games. Just so happened he played a poor game against a poor opponet with a chip on their shoulder and the Heat couldn’t survive it for a night. Baron Davis should be able to get traded from night to night to Heat opponents….he seems to have a way of leading teams to beat the Heat this season.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

In the interest of being consistent, just like when the Cavs beat the Lakers, I’ll say it again… There is no excuse for losing to Cleveland. None.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Wayno

    Cosign JTaylor.

  • bull22

you all bull haters ready for 400 today! LOL

  • bull22

HAHAHAHAHA to all those who think dewayne wade is the greatest, his co-star gets a triple double and they still lose! and its 03302011 and who is at the top of the conference?? let me guess?? LOL! ITS CHICAGO………

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

@Jtaylor, you don’t call that most important, you call that an X-Factor. I think you’ve got you’re vocabulary messed up if you think Pippen was the most important player on the Bulls.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

And because it wouldn’t be me unless I got something started…
Eboy Posted: Feb.17 at 8:46 am
    I mean, the Cavs? Seriously?

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

Lakers fans must still be asleep cause I thought for sure they’d be giving Eboy sh*t by now.
That’s why it’s never smart to clown a fanbase after a bad loss cause any team can lose to any other team on any given night in the NBA.
I could make fun of the Heat but the Bulls have lost to the Raptors.
They could lose to the wolves tonight.
Also, in the end the Heat still make the Playoffs. The Cavs are still top of the lottery bound.
JTaylor, going back to last night, I don’t give a damn about his triple double.
    I don’t care if he got 30, 30 and 30.
Cause no one said anything about his game till you brought it up.
On the court, a beast as always.
Off the court, still a b*tch move to not come out for pre-game intros.
Still a b*tch move to blame it on going to the bathroom afterwards.
    But whatever, nobodys perfect.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Not starting anything with me….I don’t bi*ch out and make excuses or blame the refs like Bulls, Laker and Knicks fans. I accept when my team plays like you in a gym with players with talent….terribly. It’s a process.

I mean, they lost to the f*cking Cavs.

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

@Eboy, you’re not making excuses but you do like to point fingers at every else ‘I don’t bi*ch out and make excuses or blame the refs like Bulls, Laker and Knicks fans.’ That’s a b*tch move.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Enig….I can take it…..many of “you” cannot. It’s fun to f*ck with people. Too many of “you” can’t figure out how to deal with it. “Your” loss I guess.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Co-sign Enigmatic. Sometimes, it is like you cannot say anything negative about Bron on here. This Cleveland loss is irrelevant in reality, as it was when the L.A lost there.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Read some of your comments from when the Bulls take loses. I’ll wait. See how it works?….I don’t make excuses, so I feel fine pointing fingers, cause I point fingers at my own team’s failures. Get over your self-righteous selves. The Heat played like the 2011 Cavs. That’s pretty terrible.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Anything you say can, and will be used against you in the PU. Haha…

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    BC with the dagger!

  • bull22

eboy and enigmatic please kiss and make up and SHADUP! talk basketball and keep your personal issues at home! hahahahahaha

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

E, I think the difference is that you’re much more duplomatic when you talk about your team but much more accusatory and insulting to other teams. Don’t get me wrong, the fact you don’t make excuses does give you the right to point fingers, just stayIng consistent from team to team is what everybody is asking for.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Who’s defending Lebron? He didn’t do enough last night. He played a great quarter, then disappeared until the 4th quarter. I’m not sure what the fu*k he was thinking about, but he should have been bulldozing his way into the paint. Instead, he play facilitator. It was a complete opposite display of his skills from the first time back in Cleveland. Some nights, he has to be that bulldozer guy. Last night was one of them because Bosh played like he was in the Special Olympics. That’s still one of Spo’s shortcomings, not being able to adjust when sh*t needs rearranging.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

    CAVALIEEEEERRS!
The sweetest win of the season! I love Lebron and Miami (go get that title!) but just for this once..
    HAHAHAHAHAHA!
    Where’s my dude Anton? C’mon!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Caboose, find a “diplomatic” statement I’ve made today about the Heat. Stop it. The ONLY bright spot for the Heat is the emergence of Bibby and how he’ll be huge for them in critical moments in the playoffs. That’s the only bright spot from yesterday’s game was his continued excellent 3 point shooting. Nothing more.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

When the Bulls take losses, I don’t complain b*tch or cry. There haven’t been many losses to complain, b*tch or cry about this season, but still… I called out DRose when he struggled in late game situations earlier in the season, right here in the PU.
And the only thing I complained about with the refs was when Derrick wasn’t getting calls earlier in the season, and that’s because he wasn’t. And it just wasn’t my observation, but everyone’s. So don’t try it, E. At least not with me.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

E, I was referring to last night, when Jtaylor defended Bron for ducking out on intro’s.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

You made excuses (cried) about Rose getting short-changed for foul calls numerous times this season. Where I’m from, that’s bitc*ing. Play your game, Rose Buddy….I’m ok with your self-support system.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Brons play on court last night does not need defending. I have heard numerous times that people don’t care about how a guy acts off the court, just whether he produces, so if a guy is being a douche off the court, why waste your time defending him?

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

I just acknowledged that… So what you saying? He’s getting calls now though so no complaints here.
See, I don’t know how you guys do it in S. Florida, but WHERE I’M FROM, what you’re doing right now is b*tching.
Don’t dish it if you can’t take it, my man.

  • http://www.slamonline.com jumpman3224

What do ya’ll think of JJ Hickson? He’s averaging 13 and 8.3 this season. Can he be a contributor on a playoff team or is a product of the Cavs lack of talent? Personally, I think he def. has flaws, but I like his game and hope that if the Cavs can right the ship over the next few years he can still be the starting PF.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Jahmai

Just imagine how many arguments could potentially be settled when the Playoffs are over this year.

  • http://www.slamonline.com jumpman3224

@Jahmai: I thought the same thing last year…you’d be surprised.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Oh, and as far as LBJ ducking out on the intro’s maybe he was in the bathroom, who knows? I didn’t care about that when I heard it.
What I did find funny was he showed up at the arena wearing a jacket that read: “Long Live The King.”
I thought Philo had sent it to him, haha!

I hardly know where to begin. I’m still spilling my coffee, LOL at Eboy’s dumb@ss not knowing how to take the L without bringing up other teams. That ain’t exactly taking it on the chin, Sport…Now let’s begin, the Cavs suck. Last night proves that these guys had no heart for the vast majority of the wins. Sure, the Heat’s arrogance helped get them the W, but if you saw the game you saw an inspired Cavs team. I feel sorry for Cleveland fans and Byron Scott. Injuries and talent deficiencies aside, the Cavs could have fought harder throughout the season. Their fans have a heartless team and a douche for an owner. Gilbert is a mini-Sterling in the making.

Ok, Bron. Take your jtayloresque pyscho-babble to someone else’s bathtub…..I’m sure the water’s warm and filled with rose petals, kid. You ain’t hurting my feelings. Anyways, no one has any info about what happened with Gilbert not letting Lebron’s people into the parking garage or is that not a true story?

HAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA IT MUST SUCK to be you LOSERS LOOKING UP AT US BULLS! LOL! HAHAHAHAHAHA BUNCH OF WHINERS!

  • http://www.slamonline.com jumpman3224

FYI – Vast, sweeping generalizations are always incorrect. Heat fans, Lakers fans, Bulls fans, etc. aren’t all the same and don’t react to losses, wins, calls, etc. in the same manner.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I got no problem with saying my team sucked when my team sucks too.
And like BC I was also complaining about Rose not getting calls back when he wasn’t getting calls.
Only time I ever really really complained about the refs after a game was the first one against Miami, and that wasn’t a loss.
Anyways, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t B. Diddy 2-1 against the Heat this season?
Not bad considering the teams he suited up for.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

    Alright back to reality:
Byron Scott is the right coach for my Cavs. I love his mental toughness.
JJ Hickson STILL needs to be traded this offseason. Actually all of them except for Andy.
If we win the lottery, draft KYRIE IRVING. Then Derrick Williams with our 2nd top 10 pick if he’s still available.
Go get a Big (center or PF) who can score this offseason.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    See my 9:17 comment Enig.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Whatever, E. Go grab some tisues…
And to answer your question, yes, the parking garage story is true.
Bron showed up at the arena in his own car and with another car following him. They stopped him but then eventually let the car that he was riding in enter the garage, but not the car that was behind him.
I don’t know if his kids were in the second car or not.

  • http://www.slamonline.com jumpman3224

@Eboy: Lebron showed up a a private entrance with a driver and 2nd car. He got delayed and cleared to enter, but the others with him (implied entourage members) got turned away. Cavs spokesman said visiting players are not allowed to use the private garage unless special arangements are made in advance.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

bull22, where the f*ck were you when the Bulls were 9-8 earlier this season?
I never seen you on here till Bulls took first place and now you gotta make us all look like douchebags.
    You can’t be serious.
I seriously think it’s a fan of another team poking fun at Bulls fans.

  • http://nicekicks.com meloman2.0

Umm… anyone else find it patetic that Lebron punked out of the Intros for a washroom break… this guy acts like he’s in Kindergarden. what a douche

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

@ J, I was hoping Gilbert the Jerk was gonna fire Scott so that the Knicks could grab him up after the fire D’Antoni. He’s a bright spot for that organization.

  • bull22

enigmatic i would have been here earlier believe me if i had know slam had this online…
and IAM a real bulls fan, WIN or LOSE boys i will be here the rest of the season, you can best believe that, i only comment on SLAMS sports blog!

JJ Hickson should be on a Wizards. He fits perfectly there, if you know what I mean.

When did Maverick Carter hired you?

  • http://www.fiba.com Darksaber

TPU comments the morning after a Heat loss; the usual nonsense.
I’ll stay away from Slamonline’s most ridiculous sparring ring for now. Maybe during the playoffs, where insanity after losses/wins is more logical, this specific blog and it’s comments will make for an interesting read.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I think if Lebron had a “mysterious” injury and missed the game, I’d have called him a b*tch too, but I mean, he was on the court for all of pre-game warmups and played the majority of the game….there was no running and hiding from that crowd if his little jaunt to the “restroom” or wherever the f*ck he went is factual.

  • bull22

i think if i can remember players like dave corzine, dennis hopson, pete meyers and brian williams (bison dele) that pretty much would make me a fan if i know who these guys are…. so there is your answer! CHICAGO STYLE,LOL!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I second the idea of Byron Scott being able to head to a team with a pulse to lead.

Yes, I agree. And if the front office can inject more talent with Scott they could do something special some time.
    @BC:
They’ve eventually let the other car(s) get in after they’ve made proper request.

  • http://Slamonline.com Sergio

Here’s an example as to why Kobe could never be a pubic hair in Michael Jordan’s teeth: In the 96 season, the Grizzlies were HAMMERING the Bulls in Vancouver. No one on the squad was doing a f*cking thing. Michael basically said, “F*ck this, we ain’t losing to the worst team in the league” and proceeded to obliterate Vancouver’s hopes of being relevant for a night, on his own. Watch a Jordan DVD and you’ll see the story. Why couldn’t Bean do such a thing? ‘Cause the dude is what I knew he was.
    << replace Kobe with Lebron

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

I mean seriously, Byron Scott is a rock solid coach. He knows what his doing. Some might say that he sucks on defensive sets but that’s mostly due to the kind of personnel he had at the moment. C’mon 08′ Hornets? and I like his attitude of not giving a f*ck and not buying into this bitterness/revenge sh*t.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

This Miami loss happened at the right place, at the right time, at the right opponent. This could do them well finishing the season. First losing against the Cavs at their last meeting of the first year of the post-Lebron era. at Cleveland. That should pissed them off. Especially Lebron. Second Bosh played poor again (and Wade to an extent) but in the right timing. All this could add more fuel to finish the season strong with the proper mindset going to the playoffs. Winning all of their remaining games is not impossible.

Eboy…. hahahahaha. All that sh1t talking before when the lakers lost to the LONELY Cavs. Man, this is beautiful. For the record, you hate way to much on the Lakers. You tried to give it to everyone on this site, and everyone has barely said anything to you about Miami and their terrible and inconsistant play. I look forward to the Lakers and Heat battling in the playoffs. Well, you know, next year because this year the lakers will beat Chicago in the finals! Eboy, suck a big one on that loss.
I still love you though lol, no homo!

no problem airs, when i use the term losers, its meant for those fans who find creative excuses for why their teams dont win games and then badmouth the good teams. my team loses, they lose, and iam man enought to admit they sucked against 76ers.

  • http://www.slamonline.com James the Balla

    Feels good to be commenting.
Baron Davis, 10 points 7 assists? Am I missing something, how is he credited with the win with those kind of numbers?

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

The Heat will be tested mightily against the Celtics in their upcoming game. A “measuring stick” or a projected playoff match up game if you would like to. Remember, no Chalmers and no Haslem. Their two best defenders at their respective positions in which in reverse, the Celtics are best at. Also, the Cavs played very physical with Miami and won and they should expect that to double up against the Celts. Go target KG. I mean give him a taste of his own medicine. Play physical, thrash talk that would get on him and his team mentally. A huge key is mentality.

Even when the game started and they were down, they didnt care. Seems like only Heat fans think becuz they have LBJ and Wade its a lock. This loss could actually be pretty significant if Miami doesn’t catch up Boston and loses HCA in the 2nd round. I’m worried about Miami’s defensive intensity. Dwyane, especially, has been very careless on the defensive end this year. I wouldn’t have been mad at Spo for benching Bosh during the 4th quarter, Thibs has done it a few times to Booz to get his defensive message across. Bosh needs to realize that Miami needs him to be agressive at all times to realize its potential.

  • http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/chicago-bulls-talk/2011 Diesel

Let’s clear one thing up right now. No one on this site cries about their team losing. At least not the normal regular commenters. Most people accept a loss but then get defensive when a certain 40 year old starts making jack @ss comments like he’s a 7th grader. So stop patting yourself on the back for “not crying” Eboy. If Kap were an old man with no life, he’d be the first 20 comments on this post like another commenter was when the Lakers lost to the Cavs. It’s funny how you can be so level headed and rational when assessing your team’s loses but you’re the complete opposite when someone else loses. And don’t confuse you trying to get in front of the ridicule with you actually “telling it like it is”. You deserve all the same stupid, immature, mindless comments today, that you dish out on a regular basis. Heat are a good team – there’s no knock on them for slipping up one game. Eboy is a loser no matter how many games his team wins/loses. PEACE I’m out.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

But I fu*ked your girl, so I”m good. Maybe that was too 7th grade, huh?

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

    It’s like this, ‘Matic…
This Post Up is exactly how you can tell that 95% of the people who comment on the Heat are bandwagoners. They lose to Cleveland last night and it sounds like crickets in here.
When the Heat beat LA, EVERYBODY had something to say. When the Cavs beat LA, EVERYBODY had something to say.
But this is why I respect my man Eboy, even though he can be a little over the top sometimes. He’s the only TRUE HEAT FAN (read: fan of the TEAM, not just one PLAYER) that comments regularly, win or lose.
    9-8 start, 18 W’s in 19 games, 5-game losing streak, doesn’t matter. He’s always talking either way.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

Yeah, I gotta say I respect Eboy too for being a real fan, BC.
    I’ma be real.
Only thing that irks me about Eboy is that his explanation for being over the top this year is because of all the sh*t he got for being a Heat fan before Bron and Bosh and how since his team has sucked over the years and are now good he’s entitled to gloat a little.
    I call BS on that.
The Heat were up and down.
    The Bulls sucked since ’98.
    The Heat won a title.
The Bulls hadn’t sniffed 50 wins until this year.
One 15-win season ain’t got sh*t on what the Bulls went through the last 12 years.
He gets to gloat cause “the Heat sucked and now they don’t”.
But when Bulls fans gloat, he takes offense to it.
Other than that though, Eboy, I got mad respect for you.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

I think the Bulls better respect the hell out of Indiana too. That team is going to be handful. The least competitive of the three bottom teams in the East will probably be the Knicks cause they play no D.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I think Dwight carries a heavy load but his team didn’t win enough before the trades or after. That is the main problem with him.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Dwight shouldn’t be in the top three in MVP voting if his team isn’t one of the top three teams in his own conference.

  • http://slamonline.com zoom

@Eboy: ((yawn)) BC: I still give Rose the slight edge. No one can honestly say that last summer they expected the Bulls to be No. 1 in the East. The Magic would definitely be complete bottom feeders without Dwight, but I give more credit to the guy on the overachieving squad rather than the guy on the underachieving team.

I’m with everyone who says that he should produce more wins on a bad team. LBJ set the bar for doing more with less. That’s the standard. It won him 2 consecutive MVP’s.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

    Haha, ‘Matic. Me too…

  • http://Slamonline.com Nbk

Oh and I’ve had Dwight as 2nd in MVP for a minute. Wouldn’t argue if he won it though, he’s been the best two way player for the last 2 months. And that team is horrendous without him, like Detroit bad.

Actually that last one was written by some guy saying that using advanced stats to discredit Rose as being the MVP is stupid cause you can make advanced stats say anything you want it to, really.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Stat guys want to change the rules. If they do, then it legitimizes all of that BS. The first time a guy wins an MVP award and his team isn’t in contention to make any noise in the Postseason, like Felix Hernandez from the Mariners last year (because that’s what this is ALL about), I’m done with this game. Man, Derrick Rose is more deserving than Steve Nash.
    Period.
I can’t understand how Rose is getting docked for his team’s talent, but Nash got that full-on media felatio the two years he won it.
YOu tell me this Bulls team is more talented than both of those Phoenix teams? Really, is that that the argument we’re making here?
Are people arguing that Rose is LESS essential to his team’s success than Nash?
See, that’s the argument pro-Rose people have to make. Where did these yahoos stand on Steve Nash and his unimpressive 15 and 11.

Steve Nash was the wonder boy of the league and the media ran with it. No arguing Rose is more valuable to this lesser Bulls team than Nash was to the more talented Suns back in the day.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

Marcus Thornton is a legit starting 2. That trade with the Hornets was great for BOTH teams. The Hornets desperately need Landry and the Kings desperately need Thornton–who knew?

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

Allen, the argument is that the Bulls success is predicated on “D” and Rose isn’t a part of that at all. Moreover, since Howard impacts his team both offensively AND defensively, then he’s more deserving. Plus if you take him off the team or even replace him with an average player, Orlando would suck.
Oh, and SVG isn’t a very good coach either.
And Jameer is a shell of himself.
    So is Hedo.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Of course there is no arguing.
The biggest excuse though will be “Well advanced statistics weren’t as prevalent back then, and if we look at Nash’s season it as a model of efficiency.”
    Eff that.
This ain’t the MEP, or Most Efficient Player. This is about value. And nobody who watches games and understands ball can ignore Derrick Rose’s value to that team. That’s not saying that Chris Paul or Deron Williams couldn’t have had similar success with that team, I think they could have. But, that’s where the list ends. No other point guard in the league right now, not Rondo, not Nash, not Westbrook, not Wall, not anyone, could have the Bulls doing what Derrick Rose has them doing. That’s his value.
    Blatant hypocrisy drives me crazy.

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

    Colin Cowherd is dumb.

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

He literally said LeBron is more deserving of the MVP because his stats show it. Meh, maybe to that point. Then he said The Heat only struggled at the beginning of the season because LeBron was “Forced” into a new locker room with new players and had to get accustomed to that. “Forced” really? So, I guess “The Decision” was a reality TV show, I didn’t see the part where fans got to text in their vote to decide where LeBron went. LeBron has been spectacular on the court, but forced is not a word I would use.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

But in this case Allen, his detractors argue that his value has to be clearly defined numerically, otherwise he’s not deserving.
It can’t be defined by what you see on the court because that just plays into the “narrative” and it’s not “factual.”

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Anybody who thinks Rose doesn’t play defense is an idiot. He’s not elite, but he plays defense now, and he showing lots of skill.
The Bulls team is a lot like the 2001 Sixers team. That team didn’t need Iverson to play lockdown defense. They had six or seven other guys who could do that in their sleep. What the needed him to do was carry the team offensively, whether that meant scoring or creating shots for others, no matter what sort of defense the Sixers faced.
That’s Rose’s job. He does it. That’s his value.
There is no way 25, 8 and 4 is less impressive than 15 and 11, and I don’t care what your advanced stats say.
Rose has been without his two best big man for long stretches of the year. He has a piss poor two guard rotation, and no backup small forward.
He plays in a conference that had three established championship contenders before the season.
It’s crap. People are ignoring all the arguments they made for Nash to take something away from Rose. It pisses me off.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

Teddy, I’d be more inclined to believe it if Kevin McHale and Chris Webber, who played a combined 1,802 regular season games (thanks, basketball-reference!) hadn’t said they had never seen anything like that before.

Damnit, I was gonna say something else to JTaylor about whether he was gonna call AllenP a groupie or tell him to bathe in rose petals cause he’s upset about Rose’s MVP candidacy being questioned too.
    But I can’t stay mad at JTaylor…cause he’s one funny a** dude.
    Most on here would agree.
Unless your name is Bryan Crawford.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

I hear ya. You’re singing to the choir, trust me. That’s why stat guys should get to vote on a Most Efficient Player award or Best Player award and stay out of the MVP conversation.
But once more stat guys start getting actual votes — like Hollinger has right now — then the MVP is really going to become a joke.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

    Who’s Colin Cowherd?

  • JTaylor21

    Who’s arguing with you?
I think that most smart basketball fans believe that what Rose’s doing this year is way more impressive and valuable to his team than what Nash did in his two MVP seasons.
What I would argue is that Rose’s efficiency is the only blemish in his otherwise stellar MVP season. You can’t just ignore a player that everyone is so enamored with shooting 44% from the field and before you go with the “but AI did it” line, I never was a fan of him winning that MVP over a guy like Shaq who dominated like no other player that year.
Also Jim Rome is a imbecile. It amazes me that the so-called world wide leader in sports employs such morons and label them “experts”
Hell, the bird sh*t that dropped on my windshield is more of an expert than most of those clowns.

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

    ESPN radio guy.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

I’m not upset that his candidacy is being questioned.
I’m upset that somebody had the audacity to call him the worst MVP ever, like they didn’t notice what Steve Nash did during his first MVP year.
    That’s what I’m mad about.
I’m mad that his team’s “talent” and coaching is being used against him, but it wasn’t against Nash. I’m upset that people are talking about it being an insult to Chris Paul, like it’s Derrick Rose’s fault the voters decided to give Kobe and Dirk some head instead of rewarding Paul for his RIDICULOUS seasons.
If Derrick Rose is insulting Chris Paul, what the EFF did Steve Nash do? Did you see the massive freaking difference between Paul’s numbers and Nash’s? The impact on the entire game.? The difference in team talent?
Hell, and Nash won despite Kobe averaging 35.3 points per game with a collection of bums that makes LeBron’s Cleveland teams look great, and with LeBron averaging 30, 7 and 7 in his third or fourth year in the league fresh out of HIGH SCHOOL. That’s a freaking travesty, or an insult, not putting up 25 and 8 and leading the Eastern Conference.
Feel free to use all of these arguments if y’all plan to debate these losers.

  • bull22

anyone who keeps saying rose is not MVP does not know what they are talking about… i picked the BULLS to win 55 games and be the 3rd seed, in which i was wrong, they are better then what i predicted! DWIGHT HOWARD should have been the MVP last year, but this is not last year. an INSULT to chris paul, please!! does he have his TEAM in first place in his conferenc? does his TEAM even have 50 wins?
please get the heck out of being a basketball fan if some of you keep saying rose sucks.
its nothing but JEALOUSLY because he is about to be youngest MVP ever!

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

    Allen’s not commenting anymore.
    He’s preaching.

  • bull22

but iam so LOVING the media and you fans stressing and whimpering because ROSE can potentially win the award and thats what you are all afraid of! funny as he continues to impress every ROSE rose hater is planning their conspiracy theories and their excuses if he wins MVP! DERRICK keep these jokers on their heels and keep playing hard! CHICAGO!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

You gotta go with Allenp on Kobe. Unless your just a hater. The fact he didn’t win MVP those years are just ridiculous. I mean the starting 4 and 1 was Kwame Brown and Smush Parker…need I say more? Chris Paul should also have an MVP award in his trophy case.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Black Phantom
Don’t forget, Luke Walton was starting too.
So Kobe took at team with Luke Walton, Kwame Brown and Smush Parker as three of the five STARTERS and got them into the playoffs, and up 3-1 on Phoenix.
    Think about that.

  • bull22

KOBE would have been my pick if his overrated allstar team would have at least won 70 games this season, but they are barely sniffing 60 games….

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.
The fact that Steve Nash has as many MVPs as Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal COMBINED is a mothereffing travesty.

  • JTaylor21

Aye, don’t get mad at me. I’m on your side.
I’ve argued since day one and will continue to that Nash never deserved those MVPs.
Also I agree with you that Rose is no where near the worst MVP of all-time when guys like AI, Nash, and KMalone have trophies on their mantles.
Contary to popular believe, I would actually be happy when DROse wins the MVP because like so many of you guys, I’ve been following dude since HS.
He was the reason why I became a memphis fan overnight and the reason why I’m a huge Caliapri fan. I actually want to see dude succeed because he reminds me of myself. From how laid back and quiet he is to being the same height/size and last but not list representing for all the light-skinned brothers out there.
I may not be a fan of the bulls but trust that I’m a fan of DRose.

  • http://www.facebook.com/joe.l.brewer3 BlackPhantom

@Allenp thanks for correcting me. Luke Walton was pretty bad too, but he slipped my mind because he wasn’t as bad as Kwame or Smush, and JTaylor you’re forgetting Bob McAdoo in the worst MVP convo

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Quiet and laid back?
    Are you high?
And Iverson was not a bad MVP.
Who was more valuable to his team that year than Iverson? Who had less help on offense? No other player on that team averaged 15 points per game.
    That’s insane.

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

It is an absolute joke that Kobe has only one MVP award, but then again, the NBA MVP seems to be the least telling of actual MVPs. Valuable should mean value. How much does this player contribute to the success of the team. When Nash won it the second time, Kobe could have taken me and my intramural team to the playoffs. That’s value. Too much of an emphasis on stats and too much of an emphasis on being top in your conference. I’m a Mavs fan and I was happy to see Dirk get his MVP, but the flameout, albeit, not entirely on Dirk’s shoulders, in the playoffs have to raise questions about his value…

  • JTaylor21

Ok, so now DRose is known as a talkative and expressive person.
    How high are you?

  • JTaylor21

Ok, so now DRose is known as a talkative and expressive person. How high are you?

Nah, so now you’re known as a quiet and laid back person?
    Get it.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

    LMAO

  • Feez22

the MVP trophy… Pretty much a popularity contest. Rose deservingly or not is riding that CP3 mvp type train that he rode in 07-08. lucky for rose there is no “lifetime achievement” players vying for an mvp this yr… well check that. i have now heard rumblings that KOBE is a top mvp candidate. ESPN is saying it too… we are in for a ride people.

  • http://www.redraidersports.com Nicolas Fleming

Kobe should be fourth or fifth in line for the MVP. The media has a job to do, and sometimes it is to play devils advocate or stir up controversy where there is none, but come on this race is hardly two horses and it’s getting ugly. If three or four get in the mix…I digress, I wouldn’t have enough time to read all the articles, let alone comments.

  • http://google J-Ro

Since when did Bulls “fans” take over Laker fans on these forums?? lol

  • ThaWindy

They say LBJ got a jacket that says,” Long Live the King”…That man head bigger than his feet. Gilbert said not in our garage. That some real soap opera ship..Dont know if yall talked about that…too many comments!!

  • JTaylor21

Oh, I didn’t know that you could tell how someone acts in real life by the way they type.
Well in that case Ne*grodamus, why don’t you tell me when the world will end, what stocks to invest in and who’s the anti-Christ.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

  • http://bedotwater.bandcamp.com BE.water

I live in the Windy now, and these Bulls fans swear up and down they are the team to beat in the league. Its getting on my nerves. You would think Derrick Rose was the second coming of Jesus the way these cats are talking about him. Im not a hater, but they act like they arent playing with the same Jazz players that got abused in the Western Conference.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

The world will end on the last day of the world.
    Buy Apple and Google.
The anti-Christ profile is in the Bible.
But, on a serious tip, are you saying that you adopt a persona vastly different from the way you carry yourself in real life to participate in online interactions?
    Interesting.

  • ThaWindy

  • http://slamonline.com The Fresh Prince of Nsam

JT u are quiet and laid back? really? Wow!
Rose deserve 2 b the MVP(and I’m not even a Bulls fan) the kid is having an INCREDIBLE season, carrying the f*ing Bulls to the 1st spot in the East. At the beginning of the season, I was not seeing the Bulls anywhere higher than the 4th place!!!
And why do Bulls fans care so much about the critics???
If people talk about you, at least it means u are relevant!
Respect will come when u really win it big and that’s what DRose has been doing this far…

  • ThaWindy

  • http://pickand.tumblr.com airs

This has nothing to do with the recent topics, I just wanted to say, I too hate the baseball. You have no idea how annoying it is being surrounded by frat boy cubs fans and being 20 minutes late cuz of the traffic caused by wrigley field. Actually I’m sure some of you guys do. Okay, carry on!

  • JTaylor21

It’s not about “adopting a persona vastly different” because I don’t know how someone could tell how a person is in real life just by their typing skills.
So you’re telling me that you know what kind of person I am through our daily interactions on the internet?
It makes no sense to me but feel free to judge people by the fonts and quotation marks they use.

  • ThaWindy

    hahahahaha

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

Living out of state, people find out I’m from the Chicago area and it’s always, “so you a Cubs fan or a Sox fan?”
    Neither.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

We all use the same fonts.
Do you type things you don’t believe?
Do you adopt stances you wouldn’t adopt in real life?
Do you interact with people online in a different manner than you do with real life people?
Some people carry themselves pretty much the same whether they are typing or speaking, and other people have vastly different personas.
Nothing about the way you carry yourself on SLAM’s site says “quiet” or “laid back.”
Therefore, if that is how you carry yourself in real life, you have adopted a vastly different persona on these boards for some reason.
    Simple.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

I can tell by the way AllenP always has perfect looking comments that he’s either extremely organized or has OCD.

  • JTaylor21

Well since we are in the judging folks by how they type mood; you type like one of those gullible kids who get online thinking that the person on the other end is the tooth fairy when in reality it’s some 40 yr old mammal who’s trying to unleash the dragon.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re featured on a upcoming To Catch a Predator episode as the first grownup to be used as bait.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    LMAO and Enigmatic and JTaylor
    @Enigmatic
I’m very disorganized. But, I’m in a profession where paragraphs can be as short as one sentence, so when I type a complete thought in a sentence, I naturally hit “enter” before going on to the next topic.
    @Jtaylor
Are you saying I sound naive? That’s hilarious to me. Why do I sound naive? I’m curious. I’ve been called a lot of things online, on these very boards in fact, but that’s the first time I’ve been called naive.

  • http://google J-Ro

@ Enigmatic- thats why i guoted the “fans” part. Too many fools on here that claim they really are fans when in reality, their joining the bandwagon. Remember at the begginning of the season when Eboy wasnt the only Heat fan??

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

I was just messing with you, Allen.
I figured your being a journalist had something to do with it.
I can kinda see where JTaylor’s coming from.
You can be a quiet, laid back dude in real life and be outspoken in the internet cause I mean, how you gonna be a quiet, laid back dude on here?
Unless your comments consists of entries like “*sits quietly in corner reading others’ comments*” and “*nods his head in agreement to what AllenP typed*”.
You can be a completely louder person on public forums but really retain your personality, only it’s turned all the way up.
My boy Larry, God bless the dead, they used to call him “Silent” cause dude never spoke much.
Me and his brother, we were the only ones he really felt comfortable enough to be outspoken with.
But on that Xbox live or whenever he hit any internet forums, you’d swear he’d never shut up.
@J-RO – I mean, I can see maybe two or three more Bulls quote-fans-unqoute, but not many.
Not on the level the Heat were getting.

  • http://pickandroll.tumblr.com airs

if i had to pick, i’d be a sox fan. only cuz i think most cubs fans are douche bags. not all, some are cool.
but i can’t stand the baseball.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I don’t get the “Derrick Rose MVP is an insult to Chris Paul” thing. It’s not like Paul is having a season similar to his 08 campaign this year. He is having a great year considering he is fresh off of major surgery, a great year for most players, but a below average year by his own standards.
The way I see it, Kobe should have 1, he just got it in the wrong year. Nash should not have 2, nor should Dirk. If Paul gets close to full health, I’m sure he will get one too.
Now, Chris Paul’s 08 year was better than Derrick Rose current year, if you look at individual stats and team success in relation to the talent on the squad. Only Bulls homers will argue against that.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    Dirk should not have 1*

  • http://pickandroll.tumblr.com airs

no argument from me here, Allball. cp3 shouldve got the mvp, and derrick does deserve it this year.
    HOWEVA
imma play nostradamus for a quick second and predict bulls get farther than the hornets did in 08.

  • JTaylor21

AllenP, nah I’m just clowning because even though I’ve enjoy reading many of your comments and articles, it still doesn’t mean that I know how you really are in real life.
You could be Ted Bundy reincarnated for all I know.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

His team had more success in ’07-08, but statistically, I think Chris Paul’s ’08-09 year was probably the best of any point guard’s in the 21st century.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I just read the article. It didn’t make me think D Rose should not get it. It did make me think that Chris Paul was criminally robbed.
Steve Nash MVP awards are more of an insult, and more undeserved, than Rose’. Who can the award really be given to this year, besides Rose?

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

I read the article too, and it sounds like another stats guy whining about his boy not getting the MVP award a few seasons ago (which I think he deserved too, but the f*ck does that have to do with Rose?)
“For the record, if I had an MVP vote, it would absolutely go to Dwight Howard (26.18 PER, 14.3 RPG, and 2.41 BPG each rank 2nd in the NBA, and his team would be a complete wreck without him)”
    Stats, stats, stats!
While not a complete wreck, his team has the 8th best record in the NBA WITH him!

Does Amare understand the basics of rebounding? It doesn’t cont as boxing out if you don’t actually touch someone. He just turns his back and.boxes out the air! Hilarious.

  • JTaylor21

I saw the same thing. The last one when he decided to just push the guy instead of boxing out was downright comical.
There’s no excuse allowing the Nets to score 68pts at the half and BLopez is out there looking like the Dream on the offensive end.
