Rajon Rondo: ‘I’m Just Not Playing Well’

The Boston Globe caught up with the struggling guard: “The story is that Rajon Rondo is dealing with a sprained ankle and plantar fasciitis that’s nagged at him all season, and the ailments are catching up with the point guard as his minutes pile up. ‘That’s what everybody keeps telling me,’ Rondo said yesterday… Rondo, however, said his recent struggles have nothing to do with injuries. ‘Everybody’s asked me, am I hurt?’ he said. ‘I’m fine. It’s an 82-game season. It’s long. Nothing is, I don’t think, too serious. We all have aches and pains, but I don’t think that it’s nothing that’s able to keep me out. I’m playing, I’m just not playing well.’”

Rondo’s a real man NO EXCUSES

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lightsout

he’ll be fine. like i said in the post up comments, it’s more a symptom than the problem. he’ll be fine once the Celtics get back to playing their brand of defense more consistently and they’re able to get out in transition more often. of course, being at the tail end of an 82-game season only makes things tougher. but don’t worry, Doc’s a master of making sure his team is well-rested for the playoffs.

At least he is not making any excuses for his play. Have to respect that.

I heard it is his right pinkie and he is sobbing about his buddy Perk being traded.

  • Natron05

I don’t know what the Celtics were thinking trading Perkins. That has to be the worst trade since Memphis sending pau Gasol to the Lakers, which i’m definately happy about but it was still a lop-sided trade. Jeff Green is good, but you can find a Jeff Green before finding a K. Perkins. It is very visible that the core guys are not okay with the trade and their moral is down a little. Even when Perkins was out, he was still around. He is a starter on their Championship team.

    no news here, rondo sucks

The C’s have been good so far into the season specially not having a solid Center and not being into full health. They’ve been finding ways to win with all the injuries and new player acquisitions. NO EXCUSE HERE! I can’t wait for the post season to start next month!!! I’m really hoping they could hold the number one spot in the east just in case they meet that other team from last year!

  • Shameless

Not really a Rondo fan but respect for a player not finding and clinging to an excuse. Trading Perk still seems like a mistake though (Jeff Green prove me wrong!?!)

Hang in there champ, Just step it up when it really counts…

That kid is banged up. Give him some games off, Doc.

the problem with rondo is that he’s not an offensive threat unless he’s on the open court. Those lil aches and pains can really take a toll on his ability to get up and down the floor. he’s not very strong so a lot of times he’s getting abused by bigger, more physical point guards on the half court. if he ever develops a jumper he could be a top 3 pg(cp3, dwill, drose, westbrook[most underrated pg in the league, his numbers are extremely similar to rose's but he's not the man on his team so that takes him down a notch], and nash are all ahead of him in my book and john wall could be the best in the league in a yr or 2)

    Good comment.
Are you able to rationalize it to us.

  • BostonBaller

I can’t agree with your statement chukaz. Not an argument just agreeing to disagree. “his numbers are extremely similar to rose’s but he’s not the man on his team so that takes him down a notch”. To me that is the reverse b/c if you are the man then you have more freedom which translates into more control over your play and stats. Most players on most teams that are The Man have the best stats. That’s just my opinion and it would be the same if it weren’t RR. I also feel as if players are dominant on bad teams they shouldn’t be viewed in the same light as dominate players on really good teams. It’s easy to score 30 if you get all the shots or 20 boards if your team misses alot.

i agree that the team’s core is missing perk’s and morale is down b/c of it. ainge made a good move on paper, but this team always has and always will be about camrauderie/chemistry. isn’t that what doc always preaches? “play for each other” with that trade, boston gave away the title this year. w/perkins back i would have picked them as the favorites.

  • http://slamonline.com Acclaimed

That wasn’t even a good move on paper. Nate and Perk for Green and Krstic? Come on now.

Rondo is a playoff performer and if he is tired close to the end of the season that’s not biggie the dude deserves a break. Let him rest without the media getting all up on him. He has put in his time and now he’s getting ready for the C’s playoff run.
