Raptors Willing to Trade Andrea Bargnani?

The NY Daily News speculates that Toronto would be willing to move Bargnani, and build around DeMar DeRozan and Ed Davis (huh?): “Despite Toronto losing Chris Bosh and making little progress this season, team president Bryan Colangelo is returning to run the team, according the several league sources. That could be good news for D’Antoni, whose offense has been a bad fit for [Carmelo] Anthony. D’Antoni, who worked under Colangelo in Phoenix, might be out of a job if Walsh leaves the Knicks at season’s end. For now, the Raptors plan to bring back coach Jay Triano, despite their awful season. But if D’Antoni becomes available, Triano could be jettisoned. Whether it’s D’Antoni or Triano, the Raptors want to build around rookie big-man Ed Davis and second-year guard DeMar DeRozan. They’re said to be open to moving Andrea Bargnani, who has been anything but an impact player since entering the league in 2007 as the No. 1 overall pick.”

they want to build on demar & edD …happy for not being a raptors fan these days

  • Dr. Richard Kimble’s Fist

I thought Bargnani has significantly improved this year. He almost has a Dirk-ish feel to him. I’m not sure what you’re looking for Toronto, but if he isn’t a superstar or the #1 (if you don’t get it this year), I wouldn’t trade him.

  • Bryan

YES Please. He is way to soft. They need toughness and your not going to get it from him. Mine as well package Calderon with him and draft a PG this year.

  • http://staticseth.blogspot.com Seth

Fun fact: At 7’0 tall, Bargs has recorded just TWO double-doubles this season.

  • Keep

Moving Bargs is fine. What I’m not understanding is why Amir isn’t mentioned. We just signed him to a major contract, and he’s had some great flashes offensively and (more importantly for us) defensively. A core of Demar, Davis, and Amir isn’t bad for us. Especially if we can get some veteran talent via trading Bargs.

  • Keep

also, cosign on packaging in Calderon. That dude is the WORST perimeter defender in the league

  • vmcb

While Dirk-esque, Bargnani leaves much to be desired. He’s getting better in the post, but he still doesn’t drive enough and settles for long two-pointers. He’s a pretty terrible help defender, too. Doesn’t try too hard to rebound, either.

about time. Raptors fans have been preaching to get Banana outta town. I have never seen a Center so SOFT. Bosh was soft but at least he rebounded the damnn ball. 7feet tall and averaging under 6 boards is horrendous. Brook Lopez 2.0

D’Antoni for Bargnani? DO IT! LOL.
On a more serious note, D’Antoni would be a huge upgrade over Triano. Triano makes the WORSE calls, especially the ones he calls a time out for (since its easier to scrutinize). They NEVER PAN out.
In regards to Bargnani, I would definitely trade him for some other starter. This is someone who once said he doesn’t rebound cause this game is called basketball, not rebound ball. gtfoh.

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

You dont HAVE to trade him hes a decent enough player, but you might want to rethink your late game stratagy of giving him the ball on an Iso and letting him make a fool of himself.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

@Boing, or tell Reggie Evans to beat the crap out of him til he rebounds.

  • johnny c

i say build around derozan, amir, my boy barbosa, and trade calderon. bargnani aint bad, but i cant ever see him being a team captain

  • http://Nba.com GP23

Trade for Vince Carter, i wanna see air canada back at his former best.
P.S. Hey SLAM, Bargnani was drafted 1st overall in ’06, not ’07. Just saying.

  • http://www.michaelcho.com M Cho

Triano is the real problem. As much as I don’t want to see D’Antoni coaching my hometown team, I bet he’d make Bargnani look good under his coaching.

  • http://slamonline.com Ghost

Clearly the people startled by the prospect of the Raptors building around Ed Davis are total stat watchers and don’t know sh*t about what they’re talking about. With Ed now seeing increased minutes he’s been fantastic. Steal of that draft by far and whoever let him slide to 13th shoulda done their homework. + Slam stop trying to pretend you watch raptor games by placing a (huh?) Comment about a team you probably know little about, excluding Chris. Ghost mad.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

I been saying they need to get rid of his a**.
hopefully they can land a top 3 pick.
Kyrie Irving, Derrick Williams or Harrison Barnes could help them out.
Of course, Colangelo would probably draft Donatas Motiejunas or Jan Vesely instead.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

@Enigmatic, if the Raps end up with any of Irving, Williams, or Barnes I will be jumping for joy. But they need to lose more games in order for that to happen. And Barnes recently said he might stay for another year. Fml.

  • dsleepy

who they really need to get rid of is colangelo. bargs can go too, and of course triano is not a very good coach…but the guy who brought all of them in (including calderon and his stupid contract) is the gm

  • http://www.boogiewilliams.com Boing Dynasty

That Jack/Bayless trade is looking worse and worse by the day…it crushs my soul to watch Jared Bayless play basketball.

  • http://www.bulls.com Enigmatic

    @niQ – you never know.
The Bulls were “supposed” to have the 9th overall pick the year they won the lottery and got Rose.

  • RunNGun

Normally, in a situation like this, I’d say that he’d be going to the Knicks and for Walsh to make it happen, but Andrea is not a true center. His best position is PF. Since the Knicks will have Dwight Howard and Kevin Love in the future, there just isn’t any future roster space for Andrea.

  • http://s.hillier@live.com Ghost

Enigmatic, yeah that was ridiculous, what did they have? Like a 1.7% chance or something?

  • Robleh

Yes! trade bargnani he is terrible at defense, and gets little rebounds for a man his size. I hope the raptors tank this season so we can get a quality pick from the draft

  • http://www.slamonline.com/ niQ

@Enigmatic. I think the same thing happened to the Raptors before. Cept they drafted Bargnani. Smh. I remember wanting either Aldridge, Tyrus, or Rudy Gay since those were the top prospects at the time. Tyrus has been inconsistent but Aldridge is really coming into his own. Can’t forget Rudy Gay either.

  • yes.we.did.

Ringringringringringringring, banana’s gone (do do dee do dee do)

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

Trade Gilbert and Bass for Bargnani and Reggie Evans.

  • G-Spok

bargs, jose, and kleiza for dalembert and tyreke evans

  • Soloist

PLEAAAASE trade this fool. Can’t stand his game, makes us the worst defensive team in the history (that’s a long time) of the league. Don’t get me wrong he can score, doesn’t have Dirk’s aggressiveness but he can score. But if he scores 40 and gives up 50 and 15 offensive boards that’s not helping us. We need to stop people

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

OF COURSE they should build around Ed Davis and Demar DeRozan. Ed Davis is the real deal–he’ll be an All-Star in this league. I’m not sure why there was a “huh?” put in brackets around Ed Davis’ name; if you did that to disparage the rookie, you probably haven’t even seen him play. No offense.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

LOL niQ, when did he say that? “Reboundball” LOL!

  • odp

    this is stupid

  • http://Slamonline.com Caboose

G-Spok: No freaking way the Kings do that.

  • G-Spok

why not its a +1 for them on espn trade machine….

  • rich

yu know whats funny about bargnanis rebounding? he measure at almost seven foot two. i think he just needs to be playing power forward and he will be fine. he has always been a 4 but because of bosh he had to shift to the 5. bosh is gone, so they should have gotten something other than ed davis so he could play his natural position

  • matt

One trade which i hear constantly in raptors land is Bargnani for Raymond Felton. Think about it, nuggets would add their PF and re-up Nene. Then keep w.chandler, trade Gallo for a decent SG. Or keep affalo too. They also want Lawson to be #1 PG, denver may want bayless though. possible starting lineup: Lawson,Affalo,W.Chandler,Bargs,Nene. not bad. Raps fans would rejoice.

  • BCGheradiniJayGots2Go!!

As soon as Barg’s BYC tag is removed- trade him.

Fun Fact: Davis, who has played about half the minutes as Barg’s, has more total rebounds than Bargnani on the season not to mention double/doubles.

  • doyouwantmore

Or how about this Toronto: Go back in time and forget about hiring Mauricio Gherardhini. Then, draft the best player available, (Brandon Roy) instead of the player that you think will make you the most money in the global village multiculturalism love-fest that has failed.

  • Justin

Anyone who thinks Triano is the problem is a complete moron. No coach in NBA history could get these guys to the playoffs. Not Phil Jackson, Red Auerback, Jerry Sloan, Gregg Popavich…none of them…could do any better with the team Triano has been given. He is a very respected coach among his peers in the league and they all agree he knows what he’s doing. I think I’ll take their opinions over those who post on sites like this and have no clue whatsoever. @doyouwantmore…Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to go back in time for any team? At the time, Bargnani was considered one of the top draft prospects. I mean, why not go back and get Rondo? They also needed a center and he was the best option that year. They had Nesterovic that year so obviously they needed an upgrade

  • Pharoah

PLEASE TRADE BARGANI. We need more defensive minded players and with Bargani and Calderon on the court at the same time it really is playing 5v3. DeRozan, Amir, Ed Davis are the TRUTH.

  • Orlando Woolridge

Boing…why do you say that about Bayless? I thought that dude might end up being a decent player, but I haven’t been able to see that many Raptors games this year. Is he that bad?

  • Eric

Why are so many people ripping apart on Calderon? I am so sick of hearing haters say he doesn’t play defense. That was the case for like his first few years. Seriously – watch a Toronto Raptors game and pay attention to him. He is an intense player and he definitely tries his best. Just because he gets torched by Paul, Williams, and Rose (who doesn’t?) people think he doesn’t play D. Not fair. Watch the games people that is old news, and it’s not even true anymore.

  • Amir

Andrea is an extraordinary player. Wanna see him in another context because he can become a great compromise between gasol sr and nowitzki

  • http://fdsssssss RAPTOR FAN

i really think trading andrea will be an excellent move to make. he is not a person who can defend bigs unlike kendrick perkins or dwight howard… we can trade bargnani and jose calderon for david west and jarrret jack (again). my thoughts for the starting lineup for the raptors are … Kyrie Ervin (PG) Demar Derozan (SG) James Johnson (SF) David West (PF) Ed Davis (C) this will allow these young athletes develop their game and become successful in the nba

  • luca

i really hope that bargnani will be traded. it’s easy to say: he cannot get rebounds or he doesn’t defend…that will say people who don’t see any game. bargnani is the ony center in nba that can keep 1vs1 with guards. how many times i’ve seen bargnani and calderon switching opponent during a pick’n'roll and andrea could always defend on the smaller guy. obviously this takes him away from the paint, so no rebounds. on the other hand i saw dwight howard, or all your best defenders beaten by a small quick player or staying away in the paint and take 3 poiints in their face! do you call this defense? i don’t think so. toronto defense is horribl in general: calderon doesn’t defend, derozan can only jump jump jump at every fake, etc…

  • Chris

andrea is the worst rebounding big man in history of the nba per min he couldnt start on any team i the top 25 in the nba and alot of team overseas if colangelo continues to force fans to watch him he will lose fans i made friendly bets all season with my brother that the other teams point gaurd will out rebound him and won almost every bet lol

  • JD

The only reason Bargnani can’t play to his potential is because they keep making play “center” when he is more of a power-forward…

If they keep Bargs they can still develop Ed Davis as a center while Bargs plays pf.
