The Sacramento Kings to Become the Anaheim Royals?

Are the Kings that much closer to leaving Sacramento? Several Sacramento media outlets reported today that an attorney for the Maloofs filed to register trademarks on the Royals nickname should the team move to Southern California. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office received an application from attorney Scott Hervey, who has worked with the Maloofs in previous sports business dealings, on March 3rd – just two days after the original NBA relocation deadline. Among the possible trademark choices registered: Anaheim Royals, Anaheim Royals of Southern California, Orange County Royals and the Los Angeles Royals.

Ironically, the Kings have recently been sporting their old Rochester Royals uniforms during select Hardwood Classic nights. Perhaps a test drive for what’s to come?

If that’s the case then why don’t they just move back to Cincinnati?

Cincinnati doesn’t even like the Bengals, I doubt they want the Kings/Royals.

Louisville wouldn’t be a bad choice because it is a basketball area.

Anaheim is known for having great fans, especially with the Angels. It just sucks for Sacramento people.

I live in LA and I think I might be one of the few that would actually like this move. I’d have 3 opportunities to go watch live NBA games any given day of the week. The Kings/Royals might not be great, but a good visiting team might put on a show. Pretty selfish, but Id love the option.

And I feel defeated. Question: If you are a life-long, die-hard Kings fan and Northern California resident, can you continue to be a “Kings” fan if they move to Anaheim. I am struggling to see how I can continue to show support when my team basically is becoming the “enemy” aka any so.cal team. They wont even be the Kings apparently (although I own plenty of Royals throwbacks). Just wanted to ask the slam community what they would do in the same situation. Stay committed or change allegiance to another team? It’s like, I don’t want to end up like Walter Soebcek from the Big Lebowski where I am watching my ex-wife’s dog while she is busy grinding on her new husband in Hawaii. WHat do ya’ll think?

Stay out of Anaheim!! I love my city but damn, SoCal is strictly Lakers…and the Clips. Now it’s a possibility that the hated Kings are moving here too? Fuuuuuuuu there’s not enough fans to go around.

  • kyle

lakers fans, such as myself, could still be happy about this…
I’ve liked them since jwill was there, and am sad that they have to change their name and logo..
f**k the hockey team, they suck!
so cal royals sounds tight though
