TJ Ford Would Prefer to Be in Miami

Get in line, TJ. The Pacers don’t want him around, and the feeling’s mutual from Ford’s end. The Indy Star catches up with the frustrated point guard: “There were almost six hours before the 11:59 p.m. Tuesday deadline for teams to buy out contracts so players can sign with other teams and be eligible for the playoffs, but point guard T.J. Ford was ’99 percent sure’ he would still be an Indiana Pacer when the deadline arrived. Ford’s best opportunity to join another team ended when point guard Mike Bibby took a buyout from the Washington Wizards to sign with the Miami Heat. That apparently leaves Ford a Pacer for the rest of the season. ‘It’s definitely frustrating, because you thought you had some opportunities, but nothing happened,’ Ford said. ‘I just have to keep moving forward and see what the next step is. Miami was my best chance.’ Ford and the Pacers were open to a buyout, but the point guard would agree only if he knew a team would sign him. ‘I just want to play,’ Ford said. ‘I wanted to play last year, but the trade fell through (at the deadline), so I wasn’t able to move on. Same scenario here.’”

    So would I

even tough I liked him in Toronto, this guy isn’t a basketball player anymore. Too many injuries, very fragile and chucks up shots instead of making the easy assist. I don’t think he’ll be in the NBA by next season

I don’t think TJ’s game would’ve fit Miami. TJ, you don’t pass the ball particularily well sir. You need Miami, Miami doesn’t need you.

  • Bluntz&40z

Someone tell me why they don’t give lance Stephenson 5 minutes in one meaningless game. Then ship him back to the Dleague. And hope it motivates him to do something with his career. Although seriously why would you want to play in Indiana, if you’re the face of the franchise all you can look forward to is the fans burning your house down. Reggie miller should’ve been a suefire first ballot HOFer. Roy hibbert shows flashes, Danny granger should be an all star for another 8 years at least. And they have good pieces in Brandon rush, Paul George and hansborough. But Larry Bird isn’t helping anything. They should have traded for OJ Mayo, he would help more than mcroberts and a first round pick.

They did want Mayo, Bluntz, but apparently Memphis pulled out at the last minute. Either that, or they missed the deadline which they had to cover up.

Surely the Heat need a PG who can shoot, not necessarily a good passer, because Wade and James initiate the offense. Ford can’t fulfil that need.

Bibby fits the heat much better than Ford would have.. Ford is more a up tempo-fast break passer, whereas Bibby is a terrific spot up shooter from the peremiter.. Bibby almost fits the pg spot perfectly for miami.. his passing skills will put to a minimum and he will average a career low in assists for sure, (and might not be worth sh*t on anyones fantasy team anymore) but he will be a very valuable part of miamis success come playoff time.. miami is doing everything right, surrounding wade and james with terrific shooters.. they now have miller, jones, house, bibby on the peremiter and big z, bosh, and haslem wetting from midrange.. this team has been construced together rather nicely

Bibby is a better shooter, but Ford is quicker and a better defender.

Honestly, I try to follow the game as closely as the next guy, but you coulda told me T.J. has been outta the game since 08, and I woulda believed you..

    Cosign BossTerry.
And Ford was one of my favorite players when he was at UT too.

Actually, he’d rather be in NEW YORK w/the Knicks. Get ‘er done Walsh.

Make it happen Miami. Bring his tallents home.

people… ford would be a sparkplug for the heat. Too bad the deadline has passed but… the heat need a playmaker off the bench that can do more than spot up shoot. Ford is one of those guys that is fast and can beat his man off the dribble. All moot points at this point due to the deadline passing but hey… he could have been a viable option off the bench for the heat. Much more viable than chalmers.
