Tracy McGrady Knows His Pistons Days Are Numbered

The T-Mac/Pistons marriage has been less than harmonious, to say the least, and Tracy is already contemplating relocation. From MLive: “McGrady, who has not played in the past five games, was asked following practice Monday whether his time on the bench would make it more difficult to want to stay with the Pistons after his contract expires at the end of the season. ‘Oh, of course. Of course,’ McGrady said. ‘I left my family back in Houston and I came here to dedicate myself and get back healthy and help this team win, and this is going on? Of course I’m going to think about it. I’ve already thought about it. I want to play. It’s a very frustrating time for me right now.’ Pistons coach John Kuester repeated that it is a simple numbers game, that the Pistons have too many guards to play them all. He also said McGrady could find his way back to the court this season. McGrady was asked whether anyone has said anything to him about why he isn’t playing. ‘Not really,’ he said. ‘I think I’ve got some sort of idea what it is.’ McGrady was asked whether he was willing to share what he believed the reason is. ‘No,’ he said.”

Of course he is…everyone knew he’d be a one season rental…If he didn’t do well the Pistons wouldn’t want to re-sign him. If he did do well then he’d go to a contender. Doesn’t really justify benching him without giving him a good explanation though. Que seriously needs to work on his communication skills if he ever wants to be a head coach in the NBA again.

dude. please buy yourself out. if youre gonna finish the career – do it properly. if they dont need you, someone else does, im sure.

  • Fat Lever

Serious question here. What does he offer a legitimate contender right now? A body that will allow a starter to get some additional rest without letting a game get out of hand? Reminds me of Penny and the end of his career. People were hoping he’d get some of that magic back, but it never happened.

In all honest truth, he was playing pretty damn well before being in the doghouse.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

He was the best PG on the Pistons as sad as that sounds, Kuester just trying to do whatever he can to assure he never gets another job in the league again

niQ is right. he was running the point well.

    RunNGun:
Bring him to the Knicks, make it happen Walsh!

  • LK44

I don’t get it. T-Mac was playing good and got benched for Rip Hamilton. Most likely neither of them is coming back next year…but T-Mac was at least running the team well. Hamilton pretty much looks to shoot every time he touches it. How does it help the team more to have Rip in over T-Mac?

  • Riggs

He was playing pretty good as a point forward to be honest. Tracy back to the knicks as shooting guard? hmmmm

  • MJ26

    Go to Phoenix…:))

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

He’s stuck in Detroit this year, can’t go anywhere else if he wants to play in the playoffs. (Even though Detroit aint makin the playoffs he just can’t be added to a playoff team)

  • TL

Detroit is a mess and Kuester has no idea what to do with his players.

  • Flight

    Back to the raps…

  • Fat Lever

Although he would be an immediate upgrade at the 2 for Chicago.

  • stryfee

McGrady was playing really well, im so mad cause he was doing so good on my fantasy team until they benched him. lol

If you look at the roster, Detroit has a lot of great players, from experienced vets, to solid role players, to promising youngsters. Im willing to bet that on this summer’s draft day they will blow-up the team, and come out looking pretty smart.. (Ok, I’m NOT willing to bet).

  • RunNGun

@MAX/RIGGS He actually did play pretty well in the Big Apple last year. It’s too bad though, soon the Knicks will be stacked… CP3, KOBE, MELO, STAT, & D12 (first unit) and RUBIO/BILLUPS, FIELDS, G-WALLACE, LOVE, & TURIAF (second unit). I smell decade dynasty.

  • http://zenguu.com Max

    @RunNGun
LOL, u aint playing 2k11 son!

  • MUBWAR

its funny cause in 2k11 my Heat team stars Nash Wade Bron CB4 and Marc Gasol and off the bench for Rio Miller Jones Haslem and Dampier. Mine is better RunNGun

  • http://slamonline.com JL

no way mubar, straight talent-wise RunNGun’s team blows yours out of the water. But if chemistry and role players considered, yours makes more sense.

  • Mike

Kuester has lost it. First Rip, now Tracy. He has to stop his personal problems get in the way of winning basketball games. the guy should be fired asap. The Pistons have a lineup which should easily make it to the playoffs but the coach does anything in his power to not make this possible.

  • MUBWAR

Hey JL come onnn. His team has 5 All Star game starters. Too many egos. Specially for MeFirst type of player like Melo, Stat and Kobe.

  • ogog

as a detroit fan, the thing that anoys me the most and probly all detroit fans is that keuster keeps changing starting line ups and players in rotation. tmac was starting and playing well at point, now he isnt even comming off of bench. the same thing has happened with almost every player. they go from getting no time, to starting line up then back to no time at all..there is no solid foundation to the pistons aaagggghhhhhh!!

  • Sett11

    T-MAC to Clippers! SF.

  • TheNightWatch*8*

Bring T-Mac to Chicago at 2.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Harv

Buy urself out and come to the Lakers

  • http://bigleaguewiffleball.com/ Jon

It looks like tmac will be going to another poor team next year just to try and revive his career. The worst part is that he will never regain his dominant self and will just be a bench guy the rest of his career.

  • Michael

    T mackin, still my dude.

  • ai come back

yea seriously send either rip or gordon or tmac to chicago theyd be so perfect there

  • ClydeSays

From a model franchise to a mess in just a few seasons.

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

    Co-sign ai come back.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/officerbarbrady what

Really surprised he didn’t go to a contender at the trade deadline.

  • KC

HAHA ya think….. I think his days in the league are numbered too.

  • Lord_Izen

In the end Tracy will be fine. He will probably wind up playing in Chicago, Miami or Boston..possiblity even with the Lakers. The only question teams had about him last yr that they weren’t sure of the answer was: Is his healthy and can he still play at a high level? If not can he or will he be able to accept a lesser role ? Both of those questions have been answered and I expect more than a few will pursue him this summer. Tracy’s market value took a bit hit last yr because of how he looked last yr with both the Rockets & Knicks. He wasn’t fully healthy althought he claimed he was and the proof was in his performance which only showed glimpses and flashes of what made him a superstar but for the most part he was struggling. This yr its like a full 180. He still has some rust to shake off because we’re talking about 2 yrs of not playing at a level we were accustomed of seeing him perform so I expect him to be better next yr because this summer its all about getting back to basketball related activities instead of focusing on just getting healthy and strengthening his knee.
