TWolves To Offer $70M Extension To Kevin Love?

As he quickly closes in on Moses Malone’s record of 51-straight double doubles, Kevin Love may soon reap a very healthy reward, according to a little birdie: “Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star Kevin Love can look forward to a contract extension offer of six years in the $70 million range once a new NBA labor deal is reached, a little birdie says. The NBA’s collective bargaining agreement expires June 30. Love, 22, can become a restricted free agent after the 2012-2013 season. The Wolves have no intention of letting him get that far.”

    Love needs to join the Thunder, but turning down 70 million is probably a little too hard for fim, can’t blame him.

    Terrible idea for both sides. Potentially 6 more years in twolves country could be fatal to his high spirits. And his contact will only futher choke the broke twolves

    Thats alot of cash for a guy who put up numbers on a scrub team. I like Klove but he’s not making anyone better in Minnie. By the end of that deal the Twolves wouldn’t have even sniffed the playoff.

    Will this be the first contract in history that has a clause that will allow him to fire his own GM for a more competent one? I would make sure that verbiage is in there if I’m Love.

    6 years – $70 Mil, Is Kevin Mchale still the GM I thought crippling the T-Wolves was his job….. Love is a decent player but a max player? His rebounding stats are inflated because he plays on a team that can’t throw a rock in the ocean.

    As long as the last two years have a player option this is a good deal. It puts some pressure on the team to make moves to improve and at the same time puts some nice cash in Loves pockets. I’m not sure how much he thinks he’s worth on the open market, but 11+ mil a year ain’t bad, but not a max deal either.

    For those of us who remember the Kevin Garnett deal (something like 6 yrs $126 mil…vomit), this could be a disaster in the making. Do what you gotta do Minnesota. I wish nothing but the best for the west, wish nothing but the best for the west, cause the east is not playing around. Lets hope Dwight Howard goes to C’s next year. Yup, remember where you heard it first.

    hmm isn’t k.love going to be restriced FA? couldn’t they have just waited til a new cba was put in place and matched a (much lower) offer sheet? keeping him was a good look, i just don’t know about the dollars. not hating on the move (as kevin is a great player), i just think it could’ve been executed for a cheaper price.

    its not a bad deal its not like kevin love is athletic so he can keep up his play for a very long time. most of his rebounds are defensive so his teams poor shooting has nothing to do with his rebounds. if they get an athletic 5 like deandre jordan they will be a pretty solid team

    It’s 11 million dollars a year, guys. Kevin Garnett’s 6 million contract had him making over 20 million a year. I’m not sure if it’s proper value for KLove, but what, is he worth nine, ten million dollars a year? The one or two million isn’t going to break the bank for the Wolves and BECAUSE it’s the lowly L-Wolves, they had to throw more money in anyway.
    Plus, legacy wise, it may be good for K-Love to play on a sh*t team and rack up the stats.

    Take the money first. Who cares if it’s for 6 years. If these last couple of years have taught us anything it’s you can always force your way out of a team and demand to be traded to your desired team.

    I think this is a great move by the TWolves. With signing Love, they can show that they are ready to build this team. They will bring Rubio over next year. Then they will have the leading scoring and the ROY next year. This is just the start and I think it will turn out great for the Wolves!

    12 Million a year, is expensive but seems to fit the going rate for a player of his talents. Would you rather pay him 12 or Carmelo 22Million a year?

    An issue that needs to be addressed in the next CBA is the fact that the so-called “undesirable” markets have to overpay to keep their players. I’m not a capologist or even a scientician, but it seems like 2nd tier players are getting 1st tier money in the smaller markets. Love is nice and all, but not $70 mil nice. The Wolves have to wow him with their offer and overpay to keep him.

    i love how ppl act like they know what provisions will or won’t be included in the next cba before any negotiation has actually taken place. right now, all we know is the owners maximum outcome, not their bottom lines. / klove should take the money and run whenever it’s on the table. as evidenced by the asg selection process, most coaches don’t think his stats are “real”. i don’t watch minnesota (ever) so i really don’t know what’s the deal with him. he didn’t look like he belonged in the asg but he doesn’t look like a guy that would thrive in that situation.

    drew: only in your last year. the player has zero leverage to get traded to his preferred destination unless he’s in the last year of his contract and threathens to not re-up with the team that traded for him. that’s why nj didn’t want to do the melo trade without his consent but didn’t care about consulting deron before trading for him.

    If the owners are fighting to cut salaries significantly and possibly add a franchise tag, then shorter contracts are going to be a concession the players have to make.
