Andrew Bynum Hyperextends Right Knee

Bynum slipped on DeJuan Blair’s foot tonight, and went down, possibly taking the Lakers’ title hopes with him. An MRI will determine his fate tomorrow. The OC Register reports: “Andrew Bynum’s troublesome right knee will be an issue again entering the Lakers’ postseason after he hyperextended it early in the second quarter Tuesday night. He is scheduled for an MRI at 11 a.m. Pacific time Wednesday and will not play in the regular-season finale at Sacramento on Wednesday night. The knee is the same one Bynum had surgery on in the offseason to have cartilage reattached. He has continued to have some pain — taking anti-inflammatory medication to combat it — but has played very well since the All-Star break in anchoring the Lakers’ defense and dominating the boards. Bynum stepped on the foot of San Antonio’s DeJuan Blair while running back on defense, overstretching his right leg to the point it buckled and he went down. The NBA playoffs start Saturday.”

Hope it’s not too serious. Andrew has been through a whole lot of pain in his short career.

  • Hugo

if bynum is out, l.a will struggle to make the finals, and if they do then they gon get whupped by the south beach connection….

  • SwaGG_SeaN

Ahh man can’t this kid stay healthy for once, just one complete season damn!!!!

  • mj23

sorry lakers fans but if hes not healthy you will lose
    just a fact

  • Yesse

I’m not really too surprised. Lakers should have traded him, but the deadline has been over a long time ago.

  • David

    trade him for oden

  • http://jojo.com Max

Why would you even let him play the last 10 games of the RS?

  • ripslam

  • Riggs

    yeah that sounds about right.

  • drew

bynum and phil have indicated he should be alright. most likely a bone bruise from the sounds of it, but the MRI today will confirm that. bynum himself has said he’s going to play in game 1 this weekend for what it’s worth. all media outlets need to chill and stop blowing this out of proportion. since when did everyone follow BSPN’s lead?

  • Bruno

    here we go again

  • $moove

hey lakers fans i got some extra duct tape to hold his glass knees, if you need some.

    Get well Big fella…

if anything, would you happen to have extra trophy cabinets for us laker fans? the one we have now is kinda of overflowing, my bad.

There has to be some kind of joke or irony when Bynum hurts his knee stepping on someone who has no knees.

  • T-Money

drew: the truth is nobody really knows the extent of the injury until the mri gets done – not even bynum.

  • http://www.dimemag.com Royal

    Get well soon Drew

  • Showtime

See What happens you flunk around.. & have to play, hard @ the end of seasoning when u should be resting

  • drew

youre right, im just saying that the preliminary assessment is much better than what all media outlets are making it out to be, that’s all. let’s hope the MRI comes back negative.

  • smoove

@ drew.. yes one less then my celtics…get your trophies up! (without referee help) lol, you know I had to throw that in there

  • drew

i can throw in how leon powe got more FTs in game 2 than the entire lakers team. lakers getting preferential treatment is a myth, at least since 2003 if youre objective.

I hate to see Bynum get hurt again. smh

  • http://www.slamonline.com Mars

    wamp wamp

  • smoove

@ drew . idk man stats dont lie,the 4th qtr or 2010 was a great example, but thats spilled milk.any who but for your sake i hope bynum gets healthy, i dont want excuse why you guys go out in second rd. or conf. finals

  • drew

dude, you can just as easily say the refs let the c’s get away with murder on defense and once they start calling it “properly” they get exposed. it depends on how you spin it. if anyone’s crying over spilled milk, it’s your coach doc always going off on how “their starting 5 has never lost”. you dont hear phil always harping on how bynum was out in 2008. if anyone’s full of excuses, it’d be those guys. real talk.

  • drew

and you never were able to explain why leon powe got more calls than the entire laker team in game 2 of the 2008 finals. sometimes the calls go your way, sometimes they dont.

  • Eddie

real talk? You want to know about real talk? How about how illuminati making y’all think Paul Pierce spent his first few years in Boston. Think back think back hard. Hint: Dallas.

  • mike

    that’s a shame…
