JR Smith Ready to Leave the Nuggets?

by Marcel Mutoni@marcel_mutoni

JR Smith has a tremendous sense of timing. It’s a terrible one, mind you, but it is tremendous nonetheless.

Down 0-2 in their first round Playoff series to the OKC Thunder, the Denver Nuggets have a new JR Smith controversy to deal with.

Frustrated with his role on the Denver Nuggets, unrestricted free agent-to-be Smith tells the media that he doesn’t plan on coming back next season (should there even be one.)

The Denver Post reports:

Smith didn’t talk to reporters after Wednesday’s Game 2 loss in Oklahoma City. But he opened up Thursday, after the team meeting, which he described as “just frustration, just really didn’t have any life in there. No one was really into it.” After Game 2, Karl said once Smith got in the game, the “floodgates opened.” Asked Thursday about the statement, Smith said: “I don’t read the quotes anymore. I don’t even want to get into that. If he asks me to play, I’ll play. If not, I won’t. It’s kind of getting ridiculous.”

Smith and Karl have a history of clashing, though the coach had been extremely complimentary of Smith’s play earlier this season. The fact is, Denver needs Smith to be focused and firing in the next two games, or else they might be Denver’s last two games.

As for this summer, though, Smith will be an unrestricted free agent. Asked if he will sign with a different team, the 25-year-old said: “There’s a strong possibility as of right now. It’s not going the way I planned it to go. It’s a tough situation. I want to be here, I love the fans and everything about the city. It’s just maybe not my fit.”

Head coach George Karl and the talented (but inconsistent) Smith have a long, and entertaining history of quite simply not getting along. A separation might be the best thing for both parties.

But that’s probably not what the focus in the Nuggets locker room should be at this time of year.

Game 3 of the Nuggets/Thunder series is set for Saturday night in Denver. I wonder how the fans will treat ol’ JR?

    he’s a knucklehead.

George Karl has never truly given JR Smith a fair shake. I bet you once JR gets out of Denver, his game will blossom even more.

  • mike

Words can’t describe how happy Karl must be about this.

  • http://slamonline.com AlbertBarr

So, when do we start talking about how George Karl is running all of his talent out of town? I mean, c’mon, Carmelo and JR aren’t worth having? Maybe there is a reason players want out of Denver (except Chauncey of course but he is from there)besides them being selfish and knuckleheads.

  • Ryan

Smith is a f_ing beast period! No disrespect for coach Karl, but Smith would be a good fit AS A STARTER for plaenty of teams. He can go off any night. He is inconsistant now due to his inconsistant playing time. He needs to get into a rythm I.E. start that kid!

  • Fat Lever

JR’s got a midget brain. Idiot.

JR would thrive in D’Antoni’s system. Just sayin.

  • gsus06

    Make it happen Paxson!

na George Karl is a good coach….. just 2 players who dnt like denver.. besides…. denver is rebuilding so why not leave and play sumwhere that offers a starters role…….. two good places i could see him goin is chicago and new jersey…. IT WUD B GREAT FOR HIM 2 PLAY IN JERSEY but chicago has the better team tho but we’ll see

  • Jacqueline Mitchell

Mr.Smith needs to stop griping and concentrate on getting Denver a damn win.

  • Eddie

Reeks of illuminati. The blame is on Karl. He just hates on players. Look at what he said bout Paul Pierce. Now dude’s got one more chip them him. Eff Karl. He never was really the coach of the sonics. That’s just what they want you to think. Think bout it.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

  • AKA trigger

The Diva in Denver has mishandled JR Smith’s development, sad but true.

  • fruizm

yeah, jr smith is a beast…im sure plenty of other teams want him.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Karl had the same issues with the Bucks and Sonics, in case y’all forgot. Not to mention Team USA

  • Eddie

@J Bill Russell commandeered the Sonics in 96 against Jordan. Read the past. Open the future. God Bless.

  • http://klatschendom.wordpress.com/ Speedy

I just saw the first two quarters of the nugg’s last loss and J.R. Smith took so many bad shots to start his game that I can’t understand why he is getting at his coach.
I mean you don’t let somebody play because he has talent but because he is using it for the team.
And I don’t see that from him.
George Karl isn’t that smart either.
He provoked the other team and coach and never seems to really focus on his own.

  • is me

    we need a new coach

  • JTaylor21

Players have been complaining since the beginning of the league, it’s just that BSPN and 24 hour news cycle wasn’t there to capture every moment.

  • http://www.slamonline.com J

Eddie.. William Felton Russell coached the 1996 Sonics against the Bulls??? … Okay…

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

Smith would be perfect for the Bulls if he could keep his head on straight…and if they could afford him.

Eddie: pass the Dutchie on the left hand side.

  • Eddie

Stop making fun of this. Seriously. If all of you weren’t so myopic in scope, you’d realize what they took from you

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Why does the Illuminati care about sports? That’s really what I want explained.

  • Eddie

I already explained it to you AllenP.

Basketball was designed to physically resemble the astronomical layout of the universe as dictated by the Illuminati. It’s use of symbols based not on team colors but rather the physiological proportions of the players and how they geometrically relate to one another make the NBA the only league that the Illuminati is invested in.

Karl is an instigator. His tenure during the bucks and Team USA were terrible. It’s a shame the illuminati placed him retroactively with the sonics, further degrading our rich history in sports.

  • AD

@ eddie get outa here wit dat lmao……. @ allen p if you want to learn about the illuminati got to vigilantcitizen .com

  • hoodsnake

Thanks for clearing that up Eddie…

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Why would the Illuminati be invested in using the NBA to promote the layout of the universe?
I know more than enough about the Illuminati.
What I’ve always wondered is why subscribers to the Illuminati theory attribute so much power, and so little power to the exact same group.

  • gotG20

is it jus me or does jr look high when he’s out there on the court lol

  • bull22

i get so sick of players like jr smith, lebron (his ex cavs teammates),carmelo (i made the right choice in loss to celtics), and dewayne wade (previous heat from last year)complaining and whining about their teammates, because of them they cant win… these idiots need to learn to man up and live and die with their team, win or lose…..

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Yeah, ’cause Jordan never complained. Lol.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

    Or Kobe, for that matter.

  • B-E-Z

Once again KARL gets an excuse….When will people realize 1) Karl is NOT A GREAT COACH 2)Karl throws jabs at his players then gets mad when they respond.Karl basically tried to blame Smith for the Thunders lead growing as large as it did? Never mind when smith got in they were already down 15!!!…So I guess in the mind of Karl his starters had them right where he wanted them & Smith messed it up lol I’ve watched Karl coaching since he was in Seattle….Karl had the best team in the NBA 3 of those years & only once did they play up to their abilities in the playoffs. The Denver nuggets TALKED about how much #### the Thunder had been talking after their games & Karl pretty much said he was scared of the thunder & wanted to play the Mavs. But of course NOBODY pays attention to this….But once Smith doesn’t say anything after Karl said basically it was his fault the lead grew that large. SMITH IS AN IDIOT LOL GTFOH…..Denver if your Smart FIRE Karl after the Season get a real coach in there because YOU HAVE A GOOD TEAM

  • Jake

Nothing makes me angrier than a coach that pisses away the talent he is given. Karl is too hard headed and set in his ways, just like he was when he coached the sonics. Its the same as coaches that refuse to play young players. They don’t deserve to coach, squandering taleny just because of a stupid philosophy they carry.

  • http://www.bet.com zoom

@iamorageforever: Karl is a crappy coach, but Smith is an immature nitwit. Not only do I want him as far away from the Knicks as possible, but D’Antoni needs to go just as far. If you’re referring to him thriving in D’Antoni’s system on some other team then fine. But as far as the Knicks are concerned I hope you were joking. Unless you secretly hate the Knicks, please don’t wish this headache of a fool on the organization.

The reason that the Illuminati cares so much about sports is, they want to distract the masses away from what is going on behind the scenes in different arenas. They’ll saturate and water down everything sports when there are far more pertinent things in the world going on that doesn’t get the coverage that some may feel is merited.
Take The King last summer, for example. That whole “thing” was excessive. Was there really nothing more important going on at that time than where King James was going to wind up? That is just one example.
The way modern sports is today, in my opinion, (all of this is just an opinion) is a tool among many tools to control and blind the mass gentiles.
Oh, and sort of off subject, the U.S. government the other day disclosed that Roswell actually happened. On the “Ginobili/u.f.o.” thread, I called it. (pending disclosure) Thought it was going to happen in November of 2010, but it happened a few days ago. I’m confident that you know this.
And, you also know that I’m “feeling myself”/ lol

Everyone just ignore Eddie’s Illuminati comments

  • unrel

what are you guys talking about?.. karl isn’t the greatest coach.. but he’s not an idiot, either.. JR Smith is a headcase.. simple as that.. look at the dumb things he does on the court.. imagine what he does and says during practice.. but the kid can fill it up.. and has crazy skills..

  • IDOT

I would like to see JR in New York with Melo and Amare. Plus, CP3 might be coming to the Knicks. Game Over.

  • rich

i understood why he didnt start when melo was there with chauncey cuz it would mess up the shot distribution, but when he left i thought they would use al harrington as the scorer off the bench, he is playing much more consistent and intelligently this season and he will be better off somewhere else.

btw i think this summer everyone is gonna say to the gm: “overpay me or im gonna take my talents to south beach” especially pgs and centers like deandre jordan tyson chandler, and ESPECIALLY NENE AND KENYON MARTIN

  • http://pickandroll.tumblr.com airs

i wish eddie would use his powers for good, sigh.

  • http://www.kb24.com The Seed

JR should be getting more playing time, but with Afflao missing the first two games, JR minutes will be going down even more, because Afflao is coming back and he is the key to the Nuggets. He plays solid defense and has a consistent jumper from anywhere on the court.

  • charles

guy will never grow up and just play

  • T-Money

i mean.. that was easy to predict no? when the difference in talent between your best player and your 10th player is minimal, everybody thinks they should play 30+ a game. It works out great when you win but you start losing and players 8-9-10 will complain. Even Felton said he was cool with not starting “as long as the team is winning”…

  • rich

they need something to distract us with since they cant say mike jackson touched a little boy anymore and put that on the news

  • kareezy

JR you need to come to new York and join melo and stat so we can get rid of fields.Jr deserves to be a starter people fail to realize that Smith’s gameplay is due to his lack of minutes played
So when he is in he tries to go off to stay in come to New York Jr people sleeping on the knicks

  • http://itsahardwoodlife.blogspot.com omphalos

Love it how quick people jumped off the Fields train. He hit a rookie wall, no need to give up on him. As for J.R., I’d love to see him end up in New Orleans next to CP3 for at least a season (or half). He’d take the pressure off CP3 to score so much or create every play, and if CP3 leaves he’d be in prime position to be the 1st option he’s always wanted to be. It’s a win-win situation.

  • Yesse

How long J.R. Smith has been screaming, that it’s his house?

JR to the Knicks. Make it happen Warkentien! lol
