Knicks to Keep Chauncey Billups Through ’11-12

Mr. Big Shot is staying in New York for at least one more season. Via the Daily News: “The Knicks are bringing back Chauncey Billups. The Daily News has learned that the Knicks agreed Wednesday to pick up the one-year, $14.2 million option on the veteran point guard’s deal. An official announcement is expected to be made sometime Wednesday afternoon. ’We have made a decision to keep Chauncey Billups for the upcoming 2011-12 season,’ Knicks team president Donnie Walsh said in a statement. ‘Chauncey, Amar’e and Carmelo are a great nucleus, as we continue to look to improve our team going into the off-season. Chauncey is an extremely talented and experienced point guard – we are very happy to have him back.’ Billups’ contract called for the Knicks to decide on his future within five days of the conclusion of their season. The team had until Friday to either pick up his option of buy him out for $4 million.”

I like it. Its expensive, but i like it.

    Terrible

I really really hate this. The guy is a over the hill, shoot first, and exttremely expensive. This was sooo unecessary. Walsh needs to go, D’Antoni needs to go, and Billups should have been allowed to walk. Exactly what movement do they expect to make with that amount of money tied up into three players who don’t mesh well?

Welcome back… just warm the seats ‘cuz Chris Paul is coming.

Do any of you guys live in Oklahoma? I gotta basketball tourney coming up the 28th of next month and could use a couple more players. Good players that is.

YES! Walsh made the right choice here–you don’t just let a point guard like Billups walk. A healthy Billups will be extremely important down the stretch.

  • Eddie

Illuminati definitely involved in this. They want the Knicks to suck! Big SHOT Billups!

i like it. gives a veteran pg we need to help keep the alpha males in check. respect the body of work!!! gives toney some more time to learn how to be a standard pg. billups isnt chopped liver but he isnt gettin any younger either. and it gets him a chance to redeen himself next yr against boston!!! rather him than a young cat that with no creditbility who will get nervous under pressure from stat/melo. and @bull22 us knick fans is still here. dont sleep on us. cause we aint going nowhere fam!!!!RESPECT THE BODY OF WORK!!!! LOL

u knick fans are stupid……… cp3 and dwill aint f.a next year …. if they didnt pick his contract up …. tony douglas would be the starter and that would be horrendous………. plus no superstars are goin there anyway HA!!

  • bull22

love it, walsh signed and chauncey billups signed… these knicks just keep giving… all that is left is for mike d’atoni and eddie curry to be signed, and the knicks are championship contenders again…… hahahahahhaha

Co-sign cold as ice: Who better to teach Toney Douglas than a seasoned vet like Billups? Let’s not forget that dude is a former Finals MVP, and made it to the WCF with Carmelo Anthony while a part of the Nuggets.
Also, the Knicks can maybe even start Billups and the 1 and Douglas at the 2 if need be.

Great choice for NY. Dude knows how to run an offense as well as anyone in the league.

  • charles

Alot of dough for big shot, Walsh needs to go!

Not a terrible idea considering there probably won’t even be a season next year, which means Billups won’t get that money anyway. If there’s a shortened season, it’s pro-rated and he’s off the books at the end of the 2011-2012 season anyway. This is a one year move by NY and there are way worse moves they could have made. Solid PG that commands respect and can help Douglas grow, or just be a bridge to the next FA PG. Kudos Walsh.

  • ionmic

Its one year, hes the best point available and could be used in a trade or resigned cheaply once we have chris paul.

Billups is called a tradeable contract. If they want CP3 they have to have someone to trade with a decent size salary (assuming trading rules are the same) – and considering Billups will be expiring, the Hornets are publicly owned, and Paul should be traded rather then let go, it seems pretty obvious to me what NYK’s intentions are. It is also pretty clear that Billups doesn’t really have the same effect in D’Antoni’s system.

even though he flopped on us during the playoffs… this is a must. a lot of money but its still a strong nucleus. Now, to get nene, kmart and jr

  • STAYWEIRD38

melo man that would be a dream come true hah the new york nuggets

He flopped in the playoffs did he? I thought he got injured.

  • IAMORANGE4EVER

THANK YOU DONNIE FOR BRINGING BACK BA BA BILLUPS! SMOOTH IS FAR FROM FINISHED. HE’S GOT AT LEAST 3 MORE YEARS IN HIM. LOL AT PEOPLE MAKING 35 OUT OT BE OLD. LMAO AT THAT ISH. AND YES, I AM USING CAPS BECAUSE I AM FEELING FRISKY THIS MORNING! ****ROAR****

  • dsleepy

agree with nbk and this move. as soon as i read that his option was picked up i had one thought: they’re going to try to swap the “expiring contract” of billups + picks/players/cash for cp. i think cp, amare, and melo would be vicious together in the antoni sytem. question is, will he be kept around, and will it be enough to win a chip?

  • MikeC.

@ IAMORANGE – nice touch with the ROAR. I sometimes feel like ROARING myself, but then I forget to ROAR.

  • knicksvet82

    Lol @IAMORANGE–GO N.Y.

  • jim-breezy
