Lamar Odom wins Sixth Man of the Year Award

Although he started 35 games, Lakers forward Lamar Odom has won the Sixth Man of the Year Award. The only requirement to win the award is for a player to come in as a reserve more games than he starts. From the LA Times: “Lakers forward Lamar Odom has won the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award, according to multiple league officials. Odom will receive the award later today at a hotel near LAX. Kobe Bryant had a similar award ceremony near LAX when he won the MVP award in 2008. Odom, 31, averaged 14.4 points and 8.7 rebounds while playing all 82 regular-season games. He shot a career-best 53%, started 35 games and helped the Lakers weather the in-and-out tendencies of Andrew Bynum. Dallas guard Jason Terry was considered Odom’s main competition for the award.”

    Worthy like James! Yeeeehaw!

  • OEasy

    Wait, what?

  • Jer dawg

Hopefully this isn’t last hardware the Lakers are getting. They need the big golden ball.

  • hiphopcop

First laker in history to win the award, congrads LO, now get that 3rd ring and come back to the Knicks and help that team out.

  • Eddie

Slam won’t let me post about a certain topic. @Airs was right. Silenced. Never knew it possible.

and here comes eboy to start hating hhahahaha

  • TheBarberShop

Started too many games to really be considered a 6th man in my opinion, but Odom had a good season, so why not.

  • Eddie

David Stern and Odom are such and such. Hush. You know what I mean. Stares blankly into oblivion.

  • http://nba.com EJ

    YEA ODOM!!!!!! LA LOVES YOU!!!!

  • robb

For someone as talented as Lamar, winning the sixth man of the year award is an underachievement.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

I love LO, but Thad Young was my pick.

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

‘Matic… Check your DM when you have a chance.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    I’m happy for Lam Lam.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Why Enigmatic? I like young also but the stats aren’t there (12,5 compared to 14,8) and neither is anything else. there is not 1 thing he does better than Odom… and he is on a much worse team.

  • Nella

Eddie – this is a basketball blog. You can’t just tie random subjects into sh*t. You’re like the new “where is anna?” dude. Stares blankly into your pointlessness.

  • http://www.slamonline.com c_cantrell

Well he was the most deserving of the award, kudos to him.

  • Oli

considering that he started all those games simply because of injuries makes him worthy of the 6th man award imo

  • 1982

I think he deserved it. He’s not an all-star. He’s a good 4th option, and finally started playing like it – after two rings…

  • D12FSU

He deserved it. He does a lot for his team

  • hiphopcop

Without Odom the Lakers don’t win two championships in a row; PERIOD.

Being that Bynum has been pretty much injuried for all those two years, somebody had to come in and keep the train moving, and it was LO.

  • Elvis Freshly

    He’s a bum…. simple as that

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

He played really well this year, but he started 35 games… That’s nearly half the entire season. HALF… I’d probably go with Thaddeus too. Congrats anyways, Lamar.

  • http://www.triplejunearthed.com/dacre Dacre

This is a great accomplishment. Will Lamar go down (pause) in history as one of the greatest 6th men of all time?

  • Keith Bogans

    bout time..the goodz

    who cares haha

  • monkeyball

No way is LO one of the best 6th men of all time. He’s good, but underachieving, and he has been very inconsistent over his career.
Best 6th men of all time:

    1) Havlicek
    2) McHale
    3) Bill Walton (1986)

Here’s a question. Who’s better: LO or Toni Kukoc?
