Maloofs Piling Debts Could Hinder Potential Kings-to-Anaheim Deal
The Maloofs aren’t the most financially secure owners in the NBA. Amidst the worsening economy, they sold their beer distributorship two years ago and are rumored to no longer have controlling interest in the Palms Hotel, their Las Vegas casino and resort. Their shaky monetary situation might have fellow owners questioning approval of a Kings move to Anaheim. That could have the Maloofs and Honda Center manager Henry Samueli concerned with less than a week before the April 18 relocation filing deadline. From Sacramento news radio station KFBK: “Those close to the negotiations say Samueli and the Maloofs are not sure they have enough support from the rest of the league’s owners to approve the move. Kings officials have said all four Maloof brothers will be attending the NBA Board of Governors’ meetings this week in New York City to try and convince at least 15 other teams to allow the Kings to relocate.”
