Mike D’Antoni Looking for an Extension from the Knicks

The day after New York clinched a long-awaited Playoff spot, D’Antoni’s agent conveniently showed up at the team’s practice. From the NY Post: “Yeah, I love what I do,’ D’Antoni said Monday when asked if he wanted to return. ‘I like my guys, so it’s all good. Again, I’m not focused on that per se. Hypothetically, I’d love to. But we need to make some noise right now, so that’s where we’re at.’ D’Antoni’s agent, Warren LeGarie, was at Sunday night’s playoff-clinching win over Cleveland, and turned up at Monday’s practice as well. The California-based agent was seen talking to Walsh, but he does attend Knicks games occasionally throughout the season. D’Antoni stressed nothing should be read into LeGarie’s presence, and added that he’s not stressed over his contract situation … It should be noted that a potential lockout might give some teams pause in switching coaches. But with one year left on his deal, D’Antoni’s fate may not be resolved until that of Walsh, whose contract is running out. There is an option looming that must be picked up before April 30.”

I hope Knicks are not looking forward to give him one.

I’m sure he is. He might get it if they can’t get Sloan.

  • Atsushi

    GET SLOAN !!

  • http://nba.com EJ

If you keep D’Antoni, let Chauncey go and vice versa.

Make it not happen, Walsh! Ha

We sittin here talkin bout contract extensions. Not a game. How silly is that? lol

  • RunNGun

Give him the extension… make it happen Walsh!

RunNGun tries so hard to be funny, but he got old a while ago and just isn’t funny anymore. Poor fella.

If the Knicks give that fraud of a coach an extenstion I’m gonna go apesh*t. It baffles me that it’s even a consideration. Championship coaches care about defense. If the Knicks keep him they’re guaranteeing the city that the team won’t seriously compete for a chip.

they need either jerry sloan or larry brown.. d’antoni is a horrible coach.. n jerry sloan could do so much with amare and cp3 whenever they get the chance to get him.. yal just thought dwill n big booz could work that pick and roll, just wait til yal see cp3 and stat do work

  • bull22

glad to see someone wants to coach these NY bums. hahahaha…

  • bull22

wowm runngun, i thought your body was somewhere in the hudson river…. amazing how quickly knick fans reappear when their team is winning..

  • dsleepy

jerry sloan would not be a good fit, if they do get cp3. sloan has a rep for micro-managing, and with a dynamic player like cp3, you gotta let him be. the reason he had so much success in NO was b/c byron scott (way back when) created a system built around paul’s strengths, and something tells me sloan will not do tht. altho i think chauncey + sloan would be very good.

@bull22 u still going in on my knicks. i aint forget about u bro

  • http://www.slamonline.com c_cantrell

sloan would be great with cp3.. you ignorant idiot.. have you not seen his work with point guards over the years? stockton? dwill? open your eyes bud

One word, NO! Points are nice, but it’s ring season in NY now and your just not the guy to do it without Defense!

  • bull22

@cold as ice, iam sure you have not man… because i have not forgotten about your knicks… at least until they are officially eliminated from the playoffs in a few weeks..

give the Italian man an extension…he’s done a decent enough job considering the constant roster turnover

D’Antoni is good for the KNICKS. His offense is so easy to understand. Defense is worthless when you know the other team is going to score on you anyway so why focus on something you suck at when you can stuff a dunk down Derrick Rose’s throat or take the J-Train from downtown with Boozer looking like deer in headlights? All you need to do is run up and down the court like orange suits in a jailbreak and SCORE MORE POINTS THAN YOUR OPPONENTS. SMH

@bull22 damn homie. i smell the hate. im not expecting an ecf/finals appearance like 98% of ya bulls fans are expecting from your squad. but at least 2rnds of excitement would be gd enough for me!until next year. then i would expect a lil more. i think we can beat miami in 7gms,maybe even boston. even though they got our # this season. and we still gotta play boston for the finale. outta be sweet. ya just worry about miami they havent been happy to be put to tears by ya. lol and fyi all u gotta do is stop ur starting 4 and let rose go nuts. wont win it all by himself. a.i part 2.lol

  • bull22

@runngun, please stop smoking the pipe man, if you need to get into rehab, this brother will help get some help man…. lol. you still have to play DEFENSE, no matter how you slice it…
every single NBA CHAMPIONSHIP since 1985 i have watched all had HARDCORE defenders….. too bad the BULLS dont get you in the first round…

  • bull22

@coldasice, the bulls making it to conference finals is very realistic. since 2000 only one number 1 seed failed to make it that far and thats lajokes cavaliers (61-21) love to get the knicks in the east finals… and yep you smelled right, i hate the knicks.. and thanks to runngun and zoom i hate them even more….

Someone is definitely back on the “pipe” again, and it’s no FLUKE. *snickers*

  • http://www.slamonline.com c_cantrell

and uh.. can you tell me how far that has gotten d’antoni? not very far right? ok so stfu

  • bull22

iam getting a feeling that walsh’s time with the knicks is evaporating, only one name says it all…. JAMES DOLAN!

  • knickzvet82

^^RunNGun…D’Antoni has to go! Wasting talent and time with this coach.

  • MikeC.

Lots of fake Knick fans coming outdoors nowadays. A year ago, there were half a dozen Knick fans posting here and now they’re all over the place. When June rolls around, will you all be Laker fans again?

  • MikeC.

To everyone saying D’Antoni needs to go and the Knicks need to get someone like Sloan, shake your damn heads. Check out the roster. The only ‘Sloan players’ on the roster are Billups, Turiaf and Shelden Williams’ six fouls. For the personnel on the roster, D’Antoni is the perfect fit. Stoudemire and Melo aren’t particularly interested in D. Rebounding is something Amare is aware of, but he’s pretty sure that’s somebody else’s job. These guys would give Sloan a damn stroke. If D’Antoni is the wrong coach, the Knicks have the wrong roster. A coach that stresses defense will also need players that stress defense. Amare and Melo have a few years under their belts. They’re not going to morph into Rodman and Bruce Bowen with a coaching change.
