Nets Believe They’ll Keep Deron Williams Long-Term

Based on talks he’s had with the star point guard, GM Billy King feels emboldened enough to tell the media he’s confident the New Jersey Nets will get Deron Williams to re-up for the long haul. From the NY Post: “Nets general manager Billy King said he believes his team will be able to sign All-Star point guard Deron Williams to a long-term extension once the NBA and its players reach a new collective bargaining agreement. Last week, in his first appearance with the media after his wrist surgery, Williams expressed interest in staying with the Nets and being part of the franchise as it moves to Brooklyn for the 2012-13 season. Williams has one more year on his contract and then an option for another year at $17.7 million, but he would like a long-term maximum deal. He was acquired in a trade with Utah during the season. ‘My thoughts haven’t changed from the minute we traded for him (in February),’ King said Wednesday, when he reviewed the Nets’ 24-58 season. ‘The more we talk and the more I get to know him, I can sense that he knows the goal of this franchise. We’ve had some great conversations and I can tell we’re on the same page moving forward. It’s nice to hear that he wants to stay here and that’s good to know. What others might have said doesn’t matter. You should take what he said and what I said as being the real deal.’”

I saw a story on tv a while back talking about how this new stadium in Brooklyn is going to run a lot of small buisnesses in the area into the ground, and if the team thinks the city is going to support the nets (or w/e they will be called) they may be sorely mistaken.
P.S this isn’t even news, who gives a damn if they THINK they can re-sign him, they probably won’t.
This is the third or fourth time I’ve seen this exact same story on this site.

Wouldn’t you prefer CP Run n gun? Or maybe both? CP DWill mello amare and Mark gasol. Now there’s a line up, you can do it Walsh!

I want to see the look on people’s faces when he re-signs. And ever goes “how did this happen? we never saw it coming.” And then they look at Deron’s statements about “seeing himself re-signing”, that there was a “strong possibilty he would re-sign” and say wow were we wrong or what?

Isn’t it funny how false hope just grips and manipulates the very mind of people.

Bulls2001 I’d really like to know what show that was (if it even exists), seeing as how across the street from where the arena will be is a large shopping mall. Not to mention the surrounding area is full of restaurants and clothing boutiques that’ll definitely find a way to make money off ppl leavin the arena. We (meaning the ppl who actually live in brooklyn and know what they’re talkin about) will embrace the nets fully and we’ll have one of the more passionate fanbases in the L

@brothaman… hes just a hater who hates himself at the same time

i hope he does stay with the Nets, it would be really great for the organization. and to the point of that knicks comment: if the cba has a hard cap that is smaller in comparison to the one in place now, a sticking point for the owners that they’re willing to create a lockout over, then i suspect that the teams that already have 2+ max players (ie Knicks with Melo and STAT) will not be able to get d.will, unless they’re willing to give up one of their other stars. there won’t be any more 3-star superteams. sorry dude.

I lol at that. I’m no hater, I could care less where he goes or doesn’t go as long as it’s still in the east so Rose can burn another great pg more often. As for the show I’m pretty sure it was an espn 30 for 30 but w/e I was just saying going to brooklyn might not end up being that great. But I stand corrected I guess!

  • Anthony

LOL u sounded like one of those knicks fans in denial…. but when rose and dwill will be battln but williams is still overall better… just cuz he makes his team better

  • Bulls2011champs

Whatever just spilled out of your mouth and on to your keyboard makes nosence Anthony. Regardless, DWill is a better assist guy right now but rose does every other aspect of the game better then him. He’s been in the league 3 years and is MVP, DWill is not better overall for damn sure.

  • Anthony

if dwill was on the bulls the bulls would blow the pacers out everytime….. does drose shoot better never that…………. drose scores and turn the ball over alot
