New Jersey Nets, Jay-Z Fined $50K

After making an appearance in the Kentucky locker room following their defeat of UNC, Jay-Z and the Nets have been fined $50,000. ESPN reports: “The New Jersey Nets have been fined $50,000 for Nets minority owner Jay-Z’s presence in the Kentucky locker room after the Wildcats clinched a Final Four berth, according to sources with knowledge of the penalty. Word circulated around the league Friday that an unnamed team — which sources confirmed to ESPN.com is the Nets — was fined for violating league rules that prohibit contact with players who still have collegiate basketball eligibility remaining. The NBA’s investigation, first reported by CBSSports.com, was triggered by a video showing Jay-Z visiting with various Kentucky players in their locker room at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., after the Wildcats’ quarterfinal victory over North Carolina. Even though the circumstances of the visit seemed harmless enough, with Kentucky players clearly more excited about meeting a world-famous rap mogul as opposed to a part-time NBA team executive, Nets officials were expecting a fine based on what happened to Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge in 2007. Boston was fined $30,000 that year for “excessive contact with the family” after Ainge was spotted sitting next to Kevin Durant’s mother at the Big 12 tournament.”

Hov made $60 mill last year, and he’ll probably write off this fine as a charity donation anyway.

^ lol I never got that at all… What’s the point of signing an artist if they aren’t working on releasing new material? Aftermath and Bad Boy are notorious for that sh!t, and so is the ROC.

Reading all the commments was so funny! I remember when that happened. I was thinking like he can’t be with the players, can he? NCAA didnt do anything so I was like damn. Jay living like he just a rapper. But MJ was around UNC players. He promised them they could have anything any Jordan shoe if they made it to te fianl four. Does he get fined? He’s the owner.

@thawindy MJ is the sponsor although I don’t think MJ’s bobcats are going to be high in the draft selection thats what this is all about.

He makes a few hundred grand a day, they just fined him because they “had to do something”. They were all probably laughing as he paid it on the spot.
