Paul Westphal Unhappy With Omri Casspi’s Criticism

Casspi more or less asked to be traded from the Kings, and took shots at his head coach. Paul Westphal had a chance to reply. From the Sac Bee: “Casspi said his intent wasn’t to cause problems and that he will continue to work hard and wait his turn to play. ‘I haven’t played in a while and coach came up to me and told me he’s going in different direction – and he’s not going my direction,’ Casspi said. ‘So I’m not mad at nobody or trying to cry about not playing, but it is what it is. So hopefully I’ll be in a better situation next year.’ Wespthal said he understands Casspi’s frustration. Casspi has started 27 games this season so not playing isn’t easy. But Francisco García has been the most consistent starter at small forward. Donté Greene is also playing well. ‘He’s saying the truth the way he sees it,’ Westphal said. ‘I don’t agree with in particular his statement that he wants to go to a team where team play is important. Maybe that was lost in translation but that’s kind of a ridiculous statement.’”

Um Paul, most of us have actually watched some Kings games this year, and you are the ONLY one confused about what Cassipi meant about team play.

I think Omri’s statement was truer in the middle of the season but that last 15 games or so the King’s have been playing some quality team ball. This is the stretch that Omri has been sitting. Just an observation.

once the kings figure out that reke is a 3 and demarcus is a 5, they’ll be much better. donte greene, casspi, jason thompson, dalembert… they all need to be shipped out as they don’t complement their two best players.

reke is only like 6’5″. That’s small to play the three these days.

Send Omri to the Knicks or NyETS….just for fun

    Make it happen Walsh?

@ T-Money: Nah, Dalembert works just fine alongside Cousins, and plays some quality defense for them. Thornton as their starting 2 is a great look.
I do think Jason Thompson is being wasted on the Kings though, he could be a legit starting PF on most teams and I’m eager to see what his ceiling is.

Selfishness will plague this team as long as Cousins is on it. I’ve never seen a player as self absorbed as Demarcus…including “king” James.

@Teddy: I also have been waiting for JT to break our/max his potential…sometimes he just makes boneheaded plays…through the ball to no one twice last night. Both resulted in Rockets buckets. To his credit, Westphal left him in and he made some BIG tip-ins to keep the Kings ahead. I think JT forgets he has a nice jumper…the opposite of most players.

Every time I see the phrase “make it happen Walsh” in the comments I feel kinda stupid, cause I have no idea where that originated. Can someone enlighten me please?

^^mitya: I believe someone with the tag RUNNGUN has been putting that quote out there since NY wanted Lebron. Unfortunately he continues throw it out there Everytime it seems a player is moving or unhappy. I could be wrong, if so, I’m sure someone will correct me, lol.

The Kings is a doisappointed team in last two years. It seems like the coach is confused and don’t know how to make the best from the team. Regardless Casspi-Westphal disagreement, the best for the team would be to let the head coach go.
