Post Up: We Can’t Be Stopped

Top seeds in East move ahead 2-0.

Chicago 96, Indiana 90

Not to name drop, but I had the pleasure of watching Game 2 sitting side by side with the one and only Scoop Jackson at the United Center last night. Scoop is my guy, and he’s one of those dudes who you can have a conversation with during a game and not miss any of the action in the process.

Sometime around the middle of the third quarter, after discussing a myriad of topics, we started to talk about players who seem to have a knack for “willing” their team to victory. I won’t give you the list of names that we came up with or who was and wasn’t on it, but I will tell you that it was irrefutable, and Derrick Rose definitely made the cut.

His “will” was on display once again as Chicago found themselves in a similar situation as Game 1, playing from behind against a Pacers team that has absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. And yet despite another valiant effort, Indiana was once again stifled by Rose, his amazing play in the biggest of moments, and by the play of his teammates – specifically Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah – who stepped up and made big plays down the stretch as well.

The Pacers now find themselves down 0-2 in the series and what’s worse, possibly down a starting PG in Darren Collison – injured ankle – as the scene shifts to Indianapolis for Games 3 and 4.

If it isn’t clear by now, Indiana is certainly a lot better than their regular season record suggests. But after giving Chicago their best punches in two consecutive games and still not being able to come away with a victory, I won’t proclaim this series over, but it’s petty damn close. – Bryan Crawford / @_BryanCrawford

Miami 94, Philadelphia 73

The Sixers’ Game 1 loss left them feeling like they could hang with the Heat. Last night’s defeat might have changed their minds.

Chris Bosh, who added a double-double, scored the game’s first points and Miami never looked back. After two quarters, the ice-cold Sixers trailed 49-31. LeBron James bounced back from his poor shooting in Game 1, to shoot 52.6 percent from the field and drop 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. James even put Jrue Holiday in his second poster of the month with a sick second quarter alley-oop.

The Heat, once known for blowing large leads, kept the Sixers at arm’s length throughout the contest with stifling defense. A defense so stifling that it only allowed 29 points from the Sixers’ starting five, including 5 from Andre Iguodala and 3 from Elton Brand.

Dwyane Wade showed little ill-effects from the migraine headaches he suffered over the weekend, as he played 34 minutes and scored 14 points. The Sixers were out-rebounded once again, 46-40. But the free-throw margin was not as wide as Game 1, as the Heat only shot 9 more free throws than Philadelphia.

Thaddeus Young and Evan Turner chipped in 18 and 15, respectively. But Young missed multiple layups due to Joel Anthony’s defensive presence. And Turner was continually torched on the defensive side by Wade and James.

If the Sixers hope to have any chance of winning a game in this series, they will have to shoot better than 34 percent from the field and score more than 8 fast break points. But after two games, it doesn’t look like the Heatles have any intention of letting up. — Cris Jones

Be sure to also Youtube the “Cold in the D” movie

  • http://pickandroll.tumblr.com/ airs

psycho T would straight f*ck boozer up.
i imagine a screeching similar to a hawk’s while he attacks boozer, and boozer howling “AYYY STOP DAT JO”

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

My one homer comment of the day; Chris Pauls 33/14/7 was only the 5th time a player had reached those totals in the play-offs. He is the 1st player ever to reach those totals in a road game.
    Back to last nights action.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    LOL! @ airs.
Boozers bobble head thing he keeps doing is annoying also.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

I think the Pacers are overachieving right now. And the Sixers are just getting slaughtered by a team that’s playing vastly superior ball right now.
Sadly, I’d have to say, the way the Bulls are playing RIGHT NOW, they’d get slaughtered by the Heat too.
That being said, I’ve watched the Bulls way too much this year to think they’re gonna keep playing this sh*tty.

  • JTaylor21

I don’t think the Sixer’s D is the problem, it’s their offense. They haven’t allowed Mia to break 100 yet (Mia avg. 102 in the RS) and they have kept DWade and Bron in check except for Bron’s GM 2. Their biggest problem is the lack of production from their two best players; AI lacks a jumpshot and going up against Bron, he’s going to have a hard time getting to the rim like he usually does. EBrand is good player but similar to CBooz in the way that size gives him problems. He has a good jumpshot but when guarded by a much taller player in CB1, he has hard time shooting over him and throw in JAnthony, who can keep up with Brand’s quickness and does a great job contesting shots.
It all depends on whether guys like ETurner, Meeks, JHoliday, and LWilliams can make shots, if not the series is over in 4.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

Hansbrough would go into Psycho T mode and stomp Boozer.
Boozer would yell “AY! AYYYYY! AYYYYYYYYYYYY!”
Psycho T would be heard repeatedly yelling “f*ck you Henderson! How YOU like bleeding from the nose, Henderson?!”
Now, if Hansbrough and Kurt Thomas went at it…one elbow from OG and it’s a wrap…again. Lol

  • http://www.slamonline.com Mars

Josh McRoberts and Dahntay Jones need to take one for the team and be enforcers. These dudes just say cut the check and thats it, no passion at all. I know DRose is killing em but damnyum, he aint MJ. I love how people say someone isn’t as good as someone else in the NBA. First, it’s the NBA, second, it’s easy to compare till you see them play head-to-head. Indiana is not that bad. Paul George included.

Popcorn Muscles would need a morphine drip for about a week.

  • JTaylor21

Who knew that little kids were allowed to use the computer unsupervised?
To the clown that’s using my name, do everyone a favor and stick a fork in an outlet.

  • JTaylor21

Boozer is a damn Dukie and Hansbrough is a UNC bred brawler.

  • http://slamonline Allenp

I specifically said the Pacers are not the better team.
First, they are an inferior defensive team. They play horrible defense for the most part. George is basically on an island, which is why Rose is putting these high point totals. They rebound poorly, very, VERY poorly. They tend to use Granger way too much in isolations, and ignore Hibbert for long stretches. Of course, Hibbert thinks his freaking Steve Kerr right now with all the damn jumpers. Hansbrough too.
Philly has a decent floor leader who is an elite defender in Holiday. Jrue can also knock down a jumper when he needs to. They have swiss army knife in Igoudala, who physically overwhelms most threes in the league with his defense and versatility. They have a rugged four in Brand, who can still get buckets and knows how to draw fouls. Turner is good when his confidence is right, and Meeks is lights out. Lou Williams is the perfect sixth man most of the time. He can create his own shot, has no fear, and cna get hot instantly. Thaddeus Young is a matchup nightmare at the three or four, mainly because he has ridiculous hops, a crazy first step and a decent jumper. Plus he’s active on the glass.
The Sixers, since their horrid start, have been great on defense. Like, really, really good.
Unfortunately, against Miami, they are overmatched at three of the four main positions for long stretches of the game. Igoudala can’t handle Bron, Holiday can’t handle Wade, obviously Evan Turner can’t, and Bosh is better than every big on their roster on both ends. Add to that the shooting you get from Bibby and Jones and the way Anthony is being allowed to roam and defend the rim, and it’s a problem.
The Sixers typically beat teams by out working them, and having more physical talent. They don’t have more physical talent than the Heat and they aren’t outworking. So they are having problems, and their best players haven’t rallied the troops. We shall see what happens at home.
But the Sixers are a better team than the Pacers. They’ve showed that all year.

haha nobody wants a piece of big sexy. kurt thomas is as OG as it gets, id love to see him punk bosh

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

Wonder if Hansbrough would feel outnumbered if he was on the court with Dahntay Jones, Josh McRoberts, Loul Deng, Mike Dunleavy and Carlos Boozer at the same time?

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

I have to agree with Allen, the Sixers are the better team.

  • mooshy

My bad JTaylor. Slam keeps putting other folk’s info in where my name is supposed to be by accident. I didn’t realize my comments were under your name.

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

Fat Lever’s “i’m Asian-Indian, so that’s an impossibility” line had me howling in laughter.
Fan-tas-tic use of the cliché, man.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Mars

Should we not be impressed by Philly or Indiana? Miami and Chicago should handle them easily. You gotta earn my respect fam.

  • http://pickandroll.tumblr.com/ airs

bulls are gonna be fine, people who have watched them all season should know this.
but props to the pacers for, ahem, keeping pace.
    am i right?!
okay sorry i’ll go have my lunch now.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Mars

Philly is “head-and-shoulders” above Indiana. My opinion.

  • http://Slamonline.com Nbk

AllrnP @10:40 – straight quoted most of what my girl said last night she said “you watch a crazy amount of basketball games and never pay attention to me during the playoffs”

  • http://www.slamonline.com Mars

Joakim Noah is so under-valued. They Should trade him and Loul Deng for Marc Gasol and Shane Battier.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Am I the only one who feels that if you want a valid opinion of certain players or teams, this site and comment section are the only decent place to look?
Some of the stuff I am reading on certain sites is ridiculous. The commenters on NBA.com hang time blog are clueless.
As are anyone on SBnation.com, and of course those experts at ESPN.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

    Ha.
By the time the playoffs roll around, my wife just sits down and watches the games with me cause she knows 1) that’s the only way she’ll get to spend some time with me and 2) she’s happy anyways cause playoffs means the games will be over soon.
I always pause the game (gotta love DVR) for my kids though. That ain’t even a question. Luckily they’re both ball fans too though.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

I feel both of you guys, but I never get the whole “I miss you, I haven’t seen you all day” bs. We spend the majority of the time we are not working in the house together?! Then when I fire up the laptop for League Pass its “time to talk”

  • http://pickandroll.tumblr.com/ airs

man, i must be the luckiest guy cuz my girl is yelling at the tv nearly as much as i am when games are on. it helps that she has a huge crush on drose but oh well

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

Nah, dudes like BC gotta be the luckiest guys. I would I could be like “baby, I HAVE to watch the games. It’s my job”. Lol

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    Ha!

  • http://Slamonline.com Nbk

My girl doesn’t mind the games, but the press coonferences and all the other extra stuff she ain’t down with

  • http://www.slamonline.com Mars

Im sorry fellas but, wives, girlfriends, jumpoffs, have no business in the playoffs of any sport, unless you’re at the game. Keep em’ in the kitchen and keep the chicken and beer coming Just saying. All this “my girl” BS is nonsense. Some of ya’ll been cheating DL with LeaguePass.

  • Lz – Cphfinest3

Back from lunch; Sixers are clearly the better team compared to the Pacers. Fat Lever is spot on with his post about ‘match-ups’ and also made me crack up with his Asian-Indian comment. BC I am sorry to dissapoint you, no hipster here. I am the suit for work (required) and basic jeans, white tee, Air Max’s kind of guy. So the only scarf in yours and mine combined wardrobe is that Windy City bandana wrapped around your forehead, Mr. Gangsta-Gangsta…

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

What’s wrong with a scarf? Burberry keeps the neck warm.

  • http://Slamonline.com Nbk

She said a crazy amount of basketball during the playoffs my bad with the misquote on the copy and paste. It was during Thibs press conference

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

Somebody hacked into my Twitter. I don’t even know what Burberry means…

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

My wife congratulates me when the Heat win as if was the coach or some sh*t. I usually crack up….but then she’ll say “oh, they sucked, huh?” whenever they take a loss. I prefer when my kid walks through, looks at the score and say’s “I hate you_____’s!” fill in the blank for opposing team and then meanders off. Still, he hates no one more in the league than Rondo and how a six year old came up with that on his own, I have no idea.

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

E it’s because he looks like Xerxes from 300 and nobody liked that dude.

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

    Oh that one’s easy, Nic.
    Bur….Berry.
    Emma….Watson.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

How much more athletic is AI than LeBron?

  • http://slamonline.com Bryan Crawford

This isn’t LA, so no bandana’s worn around here, Lz. Sorry to disappoint you as well.

  • http://slamonline Allenp

    Your son curses at 6?
What am I saying, I had a foul mouth at 6 too thanks to my public school education. Just would have gotten batted if I used that language in the house.

  • bashmo

lol Dick Stockton at times confuses the hell out of me. I remember on an offensive foul on Hibbert he’s like “Putback is good and a foul!” after Noah started pumping his fist, following a Paul George putback.
And then while I think AJ Price was putting up free throws, he was like “Technical foul on boozer”, but it was actually double techs and he corrected it later. And Cwebb was full of emotion, I can’t hate on that sense of playoff intensity.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Actually, Allen, he says “I hate you Sixers” or “I hate you Lakers”….I’d have to whip his ass a bit if he pushed hit beyond that. Niholas, I was at Toys R Us with him this weekend and we saw a Rondo McFarlane figure on the shelves….he saw it, picked it up, punched it and threw it on the floor. I would have been ok if it was a Kobe figure, I actually like Rondo, but he ain’t having it.

  • http://www.twitter.com/nflem41 Nicolas Fleming

    Allen,
I assumed the blank was meant for whatever team beat the Heat.
“I hate you Mavericks” for instance.

  • http://slamonline Allenp

    Lakeshow
They are about even, or LeBron has the edge since he’s carrying more weight, but still has the same quickness and nearly as much leaping ability. Which is highly unusual for AI.
Anyway, it’s kind of crazy that the new meme out of New York is that Melo can’t handle the playoffs. That’s crazy talk. I mean, I don’t even like Melo, but it’s wild how quickly people went from singing his praises to questioning his nuts. I can see why players get frustrated sometimes.

  • http://Www.fiba.com Darksaber

Amusing how most here have similar experiences with bball and their women.
I actually met my lady through basketball, we both play and she is the worst loser on the planet, bar none. If i dare beat her soundly in a pickup game, she becomes a fire breathing dragon.
Oddly, her Nba interest is minimal. Must be because AI no longer plays (she practically drools when she sees that cat).

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

    LMAO.
My five-year old daughter loves watching the Bulls pre-game intros. She’ll sit up and do the “Loul Deng dance” as she calls it, his little routine he does with Ronnie Brewer when he’s introduced at home games.
    She’s bummed cause TNT’s b*tch a**es don’t show the pre-game intros.

  • http://slamonline Allenp

Ha, I guess I used my own evil childhood as a measure. My bad.
My sons understand that basketball is on, but they don’t really watch that much. Although my oldest always wants to play whenever I crank up 2K11.
Is it bad that when I let him “play” I don’t actually turn on his controller and instead let the computer control his man?

  • http://chicagonow.com/sports/bulls Diesel

Im not really sure where everyone got that the Bulls were getting favorable calls last night. If anything Indy was getting the more favorable calls as the road team and an 8th seed…basically unheard of. People are over reactting to the game…Bulls missed a lot of free throws and had 22 turn overs. Slightly improve on either of those things and last nights game is a blow out. Both of those things are concentration issues that can be easily fixed too. I would definitly play Korver with the starting 5 more. We need his shooting to space the floor. Bulls will be fine. They match up well against every other team left in the playoffs.

  • http://nobulljive.com Enigmatic

Lz musta meant “Windy City Buck 50 cap”…or do they not rock them in the Chi no more?
    Feel like an ex-pat sometimes…
