by Ryne Nelson

The media voted for All-NBA First-, Second- and Third-Teams by position with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis.

Kobe made the First Team for the sixth straight year and ninth time in his career. LeBron earned his fifth First Team honor and is on track for at least another five. On the Second Team, Russ Westbrook got the nod over Chris Paul.

Oh, and Kendrick Perkins received three votes for All-NBA, putting him ahead of Jason Kidd, Chris Bosh and former teammate Ray Allen, among others.

Wade should have got first team over kobe.

  • http://Nba.com GP23

Luol deng should of been in 3rd team.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Angel of Stern

co-sign grenners.. Also, Westbrook over cp3? he had a great season but cmon..

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

Yeah, Wade deserved 1st team over Kobe.

  • Rols

Flip first: Kobe for Wade, Durant for Nowitzki on first team. Rose and Westbrook are interchangable but since Rose is MVP, well then…That takes care of second team, and really Durant? i know every sports writer in the US is on his jock like it was Rose’s jock but seriously, Pierce and Dirk have better bodies of work. Durant has never been past the first round (and its not over yet with Memphis so dont get ahead of yourselves. y’all made that mistake with Lakers and Boston). Excellent third team, btw, third team can take on and beat first and second teams 2 out of 4 times.

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

    What Rigo said.
What Angel of Stern said, too.
Kobe’s post season collapse changed my view of this, and the MVP rankings. I know they are both RS awards, but I don’t get a vote, so I don’t have to stick to those guidelines. I originally had Kobe first team and top 5 MVP voting.
Forgive me Rigo, but I may be going on an annoying rant today. Westbrook over CP is blasphemous.

  • MUBWAR

wade got robbed by a man on fishing trip…lol
    25 5.1r 4.7a and 1.2 steals for player 1 and
    25.5 6.4r 4.7a 1.5s and 1 block a game for player 2….NBA where favoritism happens

  • http://slamonline.com biged

^ this guy sound stupid especially with the last sentence. Who gonna guard Howard and Lebron. focusing on them Rose gonna get to the whole all day. 1st team>#rd team. And as far as that Wade>Kobe argument…I think its a personal thing it can go either way

  • http://www.slamonline.com Angel of Stern

yeah AllBall, I was actually pretty shocked to see that, I thought cp3 was a lock for 2nd team

  • http://slamonline.com biged

my bad I meant the 3:21 comment

  • http://slamonline.com biged

    i meant the 3:21 comment

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

AllBall, I knew you would. Ha ha. I’m not sure how I feel about it myself.
@ Rols – Man, screw Pierce and Dirk’s “body of work”. These awards are strictly for the 2010-2011 season only.
    You gonna tell me that 18.9, 5.4 and 3.3 or 23.0, 7.0 and 2.6 deserve 1st team over 27.7, 6.8 and 2.7?

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Seems like people really forgot about Deron Williams strong start and finish with this, too.
Rols, your comment was wrong in so many ways. I cannot be bothered to explain, but I will a little. Rose and Westbrook are not inter changeable. By your logic, Westbrook should not be in the 1st team anyway because he also has “never got out of the first round” (wrong btw, there still playing, its the 2nd round). Durant over Pierce is a no brainer looking at THIS PAST SEASON ONLY. Nowitzki I agree with, but we have seen how these voters do previously, with the All-Defense team.
    I honestly feel like the SlamOnline regulars would make better picks for All-NBA teams than the media (and who ever else) actually votes. I’ll go with mine first;
1st Team – Rose, Wade, Bron, Nowitzki, Dwight.
2nd Team – Paul, Kobe, Durant, Garnett, Randolph.
3rd Team – Westbrook, Deron, STAT, Gasol, Aldridge.

  • HAMMER

Nice 2 c the L got this right. All players well deserved of their selections

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

Angel of Stern, I thought he was a lock too. The voters are clueless, apparently.

  • bashmo

Mehhh I am not completely shocked at Westbrook over CP..because cp did play injured and as a result saw a drop in almost all of his stats. Westbrook had a breakout year, wit a fair amount of assists and 21 a game. Also team record is a factor in all nba voting. Pretty crazy stuff..durant on first team over Dirk?? WTF

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

1st team – Rose, Wade, Bron, Durant, Howard
2nd team – Paul, Kobe, Carmelo, Pau, Dirk
3rd team – Westbrook, Manu, Z-Bo, Blake, LA

  • http://slamonline.com AllBall

We’ll have the real All-NBA teams decided by the end of the day.

  • JL

who votes for this stuff? the media? it feels more like the all star voting nowadays. kobe should be second team, and I’m just an honest laker fan. There’s not even a PF on the 1st team. What are the criteria? Lebron has no post moves, so he can’t be the PF.

1st Team – Rose, Wade, Bron, Nowitzki, Dwight.
2nd Team – Paul, Kobe, Durant, Gasol, Randolph.
3rd Team – Westbrook, Deron, Blake Griffin, STAT, Love.

Lots of good players it’s just so hard to be fair. Paul should be 1st team if he wasn’t semi hurt this year. Rose, like LMA, were underrated so much that they are now hyped up to be overrated. BG is a rook sure but he had some awesome stats. Melo is not on my top 3 teams just cuz I just don’t like him. Too selfish and just a strange year for him.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

UHM the award voting this year is completely screwed up. Chris Paul had a better season then Russell Westbrook, clearly. Actually Russell Westbrook’s season is completely overrated. He was a great player this year but not the second best PG in the league. He was top 5, maybe. Rose, Paul, Williams (why are we punishing a guy for getting traded?) all had better seasons. Then I would say Steve Nash and Rajon Rondo had a better year as an individual. Rewarding players for being selfish seems to be the theme of this award season. — And I told ya’ll Manu would get voted to third team

  • Dubson

I like them all except for the Chris Paul snub on 2nd team. The argument for Wade is that “oh he’s still in the playoffs.” Yeah with Bron and Bosh he should have swept every team they played so far but they didn’t because they aren’t winners. Kobe is a winner. Winners do not band together to beat Kobe, Boston, etc.

  • Dubson

Sorry wasn’t done, winners overcome and beat other superstars without having to flock together. Pau is L.A. I’ll give you that but he’s not in the top tier of players like Bron and Wade. It’d be like Magic and Bird joining to beat Michael. Chumps.

  • http://google J-Ro

Weird how Rose is MVP but Lebron got more votes than him. -__-

  • Roc

Kobe played all 82 games, and is taking his rightful place one the first team all-nba.

  • http://google J-Ro

@ JL- i dont think it matters about specific positions. its just a center, 2 forwards, and 2 guards.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Max

CP3 is the best PG out there, he shoud’ve been on 2nd team, Glad to see my boys ZBO and Aldrige getting some love for beeing snubbed from the ASG.

  • http://http//portlandfan1203.blogspot.com Karley

First team? No Wade? Kobe dont belong there. People say hes the best? The best can usually win atleast 1 game in the second round of the playoffs. Wade over Kobe all the rest is perfecto!

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

Kobe should have been third team w Ginobili.

  • showtime

We know by now Kobe at that stage of his career were he gets acolytes just cause of his name….

  • Joblo

Weird how lebron said he couldn’t get past boston by himself…i know mj would’ve never said that about any team, u know drose wouldn’t either

  • showtime

Also new rule if you get sweep in the playoffs you should be ALL NBA Nothing!!

  • Joblo

If chris paul was the best pg out there wouldn’t he be on the 1st team? People seem to forget that wade didn’t do shit in the playoffs before except when he had shaq

  • http://www.slamonline.com Angel of Stern

1st Team – Rose, Wade, Bron, Durant, Dwight
2nd Team – Cp3, Kobe, Dirk, Amare, Garnett
3rd Team – Dwill, Westbrook, Randolph, Aldridge, Gasol

MUBWAR, you forgot to mention the 5% difference in fg% but I think you made your point anyway.

Although the All NBA teams are a little bit off IMO, they don’t compare to the horrible selection of the All defense teams…

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

I’m no fan of his – but no love for Melo? Sure he doesn’t play D, but neither does Amare.
And Melo’s 25, 6 and 7 per this season were NICE.

  • http://thetroyblog.co Teddy-the-Bear

I’m glad Kevin Martin got a few votes. And it’s astounding how the journalists/media just refuse to give Monta Ellis any credit.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Teddy Monta got more votes then Kevin Martin. I don’t know who you expected him to get more votes then? He’s strictly a scorer, no man to man defense, always looks for his own shot before even considering anything else. He’s a great scorer…but that’s it, 11 all nba votes sounds about right to me.

  • http://Slamonline.com Datkid

    1st team-Paul,wade,bron,durant,dwight
    2nd team-rose,Kobe,dirk,melo,LA
    3rd team-dwill,Westbrook,amare,randolph,gasol
I’m thinking maybe I switch dwill and Paul…and I want Garnett and bosh on there somewhere but I really can’t decide where. Also joblo…maybe don’t compare the g.o.a.t. To a 3rd year guy huh?

  • robb

Just because the Lakers were eliminated doesn’t mean Wade is better than Kobe don’t be ridiculous, he’s still the best SG in the game today. Barely, but he is.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Angel of Stern

id actually like to trade LA for melo

  • http://www.slamonline.com Angel of Stern

If kobe is just barely better than Wade in your opinion then how is it rediculous for Wade to be barely better then Kobe in someone elses opinion? Im assuming your a Kobe fan and by your standards the gap is small so it shouldn’t be too far fetched for other people to think Wade is Better.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Angel of Stern

that last comment was meant for Robb

  • J-MAC

Kobe is first team all day. If Kobe had Bron he’d average 30 at least.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

THe only reason to have Wade under Bryant in the all-nba rankings is if you discredit him for having LeBron James. Simply put Wade and Bryant had about equal stats, except Wade shot 5% higher (50% to 45%) from the field, averaged more steals, more blocks (by a HUGE margin), more rebounds, more free throws by a big enough margin for me to point it out. Wade also regularly guarded the opposing teams best player, while Bryant hasn’t done that in years.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Deron got shafted. That is all.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

    Actually, that is not all.
    He got really, REALLY shafted.
Fair warning to all regulars, I will no longer strive for being rational in any discussion of Deron Williams for the next five years at least because clearly being rational only leads to people underrating how special he is. So, any discussion about Deron Williams with me will include hyperbole, spin and sometimes outright lies.
Just thought you all should know.

  • http://slamonline.com nbk

Allen i’m with you 100% except I can’t be irrational. Seriously the discounting a guys whole season because he got blindsided by a trade is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever seen. Russell Westbrook got credit for being a straight up selfish pg. Its befuddling what must or must not go through whoever really fills out these ballots.

  • http://www.arbys.com LilKDub503

@J-MAC: I have never heard such drivel in my life. You’re telling me that if Kobe had someone on his team who needs the ball in his hands, he would average MORE points per game?

Anyway, the Melo-Drama was crippling (likely third teamer). But other than Kobe/Wade switch I’m okay with these teams.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Angel of Stern

@ Allenp and nbk, when you say that Dwill got shafted are you insinuating that he should be above kobe, Rose, Wade, or Cp3? or do you feel he should be on the 3rd team like I had him on? Just wondering, im not creating an argument.

  • J-MAC

    He’d set Kobe up.

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

Well, I think based on his regular season, he should have been second team. But, I wouldn’t be pissed if he was third team. For him not to be mentioned at all is unacceptable to me. Neither Manu nor Westbrook had a better season than him from an individual standpoint. It’s ludicrous.
