Boston Celtics Co-Owner: ‘I Want Miami to Lose So Badly’

Like many in the hoops-watching public, Celtics’ co-owner Wyc Grousbeck is rooting for the Heat to go down in the Playoffs (unlikely as that may appear.) From WEEI: “Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck joined the Dennis & Callahan show Wednesday morning during a charity benefit for the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Boston … After the Celtics lost to the Heat in the Eastern Conference semifinals, Grousbeck was asked if he is still watching the playoffs. ‘I am watching this year because I want Miami to lose so badly,’ he said, adding ‘I’m rooting hard against the Heat.’ Grousbeck said he will be rooting for the Mavericks the rest of the way because of his relationship with Mavs owner Mark Cuban. Said Grousbeck: ‘I love the guy. … He’s just a good guy. He genuinely roots for us against other teams. He is a Celtics fan when he’s not a Mavs fan. And we’re going to return the favor.’ Grousbeck did give the Heat credit. ‘I thought they outplayed us in the series,’ he said. ‘They had more juice. They had more pop. I can’t really deny that. I would have loved to take that Monday night game in Boston and make it 2-2 and see what happened. I think we might have won the thing. But I don’t really regret with like a huge missed chance. I’m just annoyed we didn’t beat them.’”

    Best owner in the NBA.

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

Eboy’s gonna have a field day with this one.

  • http://www.slamonline.com/online/category/blogs/farmer-jones/ Ryan Jones

“I can’t stand the idea of a team that brought together three All-Stars to try and win a ring,” says co-owner of a team that brought together three future Hall of Famers to try and win a ring.

  • toinefan88

LOL we’re rooting against the Heat now? I think the Heat winning it all makes us look a lil better when that series really didn’t.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

    I think Jones said enough.

  • MUBWAR

loooool pathetic loser. I bet that’s how Chicago feels right now. Why didn’t we sign Bosh? Why did we give 50 mil to Booz and Noah? Whyyyyyyyyy? 2006 here I come

  • Thor

Ryan@ What is it that you guys don’t understand?? When Boston went out and got their big three, the players were already beyond their prime, plus it was three players that could do three different things on the court, could benefit from each other. Lebron is the most unstoppable player in the L and in the beginning of his prime, D-wade can easily be in the top 5 players in the league and in his prime and chris bosh has become one of the most underestimated stars in the league this year and in his motherf-ing prime. Calm the fnck down and don’t always compare every damn scenario. Some superstars they got there Miami, real heroes.

Keep rooting Grousbeck, it’s clearly working. I think it was more than a little “juice” and “pop” that beat your team this year.

  • http://slamonline.com 1982

And LOL that Thor ended his post with with “real heroes.”

  • riggs

he’s supposed to be cheering for them or feel indifference? you morons.

  • http://www.nba.com/celtics lights out

don’t act like you can’t see the difference between what the celtics did in the summer of 07 and what the heat did last summer. the heat’s stars are all in their primes, and that clearly wasn’t the case with the C’s big three. besides, when they first came together, KG was the only clear hall of famer. ray was a respected, talented player and one of the greatest shooters ever, but he still hadn’t proven he can win, and pierce was thought of by most as very talented, but also immature and selfish, and again, not a proven winner.

  • showtime

    Say Wyc U MAD???lol,,

  • robb

they will but you’ll have to wait until the finals Mr. Celdicks co-owner

  • Kid Dynamite

So in other words the Celtics wished they would have done what Miami did?

  • HAMMER

Oh shut the f√¢k up like Method Man says. U guys did the genius and brilliant move of trading Perkins. Way 2 go @$$holes!

  • bashmo

Miami and Dallas looking damn GOOD right now

  • Heals

@Thor and Lights Out, amen. Neither PP34, Ray Ray nor KG were considered 2 of the top 5 players in the L when they got together. Never once does Wyc mention rooting for Mia to lose because of how they formed only that he’s cool with Cuban…
@Hammer, yeah Perk would’ve totally and completely altered the outcome of the Bos-Mia series just like he is for OKC vs Dal…

  • Abdo

    Eboy your a fuc&*n loser.

  • Demigod

    Boozer = Fat git
    Noah = W.T.F.
    waste of money ? Yes

  • Demigod

Abdo = The mentally challenged one. ha ha

  • bull22

gave wayne credit, for honesty and candor and not sucking up to the heat! spoken like a true warrior..

  • http://redoftoothandclaw.ca/ niQ

    LOL@Ryan Jones.

  • MUBWAR

    the bigger loser is bull22.

  • http://www.slamonline.com Eboy

A co-owner is viewed as a warrior for speaking his mind? That must make Mark Cuban Shakazulu. GTFOH.

  • Eddie1

Bull22 damn… I was going to go off on some illuminati ish, but you’re post about “true warrior” just made me want to leave this site for a while.

  • Eddie1

And @Bull22 it’s your fault I misused “you’re” instead of “your”

  • http://www.bulls.com Rigo Gonzalez

So which NBA owner is an amazon then?

  • dsleepy

what is this hate on Noah for? Dude is an excellent Center, and I’m pretty sure Bulls fans love the guy for his heart, D, and 2nd chance rebounds.

  • http://dsjkflf.com Jukai

Did you guys hear that Boston’s towel boy said he didn’t hate the heat, but probably preferred OKC to win it all? That guy is a -TRUE HERO-

  • monkeyball

I know I’m rooting against the Heat. Not for bringing together the three guys, but for what Lebron did to Cleveland. He jerked the organization and the fans around for two years, just for fun. No class whatsoever.

  • Bart

I want Miami to lose more than New South Wales… QUEENSLANDER!!!

  • http://slamonline.com Allenp

So, when Jordan had Pippen on the same team, was that something to root against?
Because that was actually two of the top five players on the same team and they both signed contracts to stay together instead of seeking to go out and make their own way.
Stop with the dumb rationalizations. The Celtics signed three top players to win, the Heat did the same. The only difference is that the players in Miami were willing to take a PAY CUT, while Pierce, Allen and KG all wanted to get as much money as possible in their primes.
Ain’t nothing wrong with that, but that’s why it took longer for them to get together.

  • vtrobot

The guy is rooting against the team that just beat his team? This is fu(king shocking news. We should make a huge deal out of this. He must be a total a$$hole. The difference with 08 BOS and MIA this year, is that EVERYONE was saying that there was NO WAY that they could win a championship because they were all too old. I’m hoping that J. Kidd and Dirk can get their well-deserved rings. The MIA crew will have plenty more chances.

  • Metrobus

@vtrobot, yeah, they deserve their ring, but would’nt be the greatest finish of it all that the Heat does not allow this like the Bulls did not allow it for L.A, Portland, Phoenix, Seattle and Utah?. So many deserving players whose careers could have gone in other direction if it hadn’t been for a SUPER team like the 90′s Bulls, which by the way, HAD AT LEAST 3 OR 4 HALL OF FAMERS AT THE PEAKS AND SUNSET OF THEIR PRIMES, AS DID THE LAKERS WHEN CHAMPIONS, BOSTON, PHILLY. Everybody, please get over it and see the truth, they did the same thing other teams did, the problem is that the rest of the league is finding out that a similar 90′s era is coming. So long championship ring for many of these “deserving guys”.

  • Thor

@Allenp When you get friggin’ drafted by the same team like Pip and MJ did, how in the world can you compare it to Mia and Bos. These fruitcakes from Miami has fncked up the league by making this move bcause everybody is gonna try to do the same thing. Why wouldn’t you want to stay seperated and try to win it yourself and then accept the fact if you weren’t able to make it in your prime. Mia is gonna own the league if the keep building on this team, and then everybody really start to wonder if they should do the same. Ultimately the league is gonna be about 4 or 5 teams whos roster is more loaded than Real Madrid’s soccer team.

  • DJL

Difference is Real Madrids soccer team never wins anything :D

  • Yesse

So do i, but i have a terrible feeling that they might get the championship.

  • giogolo

Pippen was drafted by Seattle and trade for Olden Polynice to the Bulls.

  • jone

GROW UP AND STOP BEING BITTER.

  • flipnoyce

Bron, Wade, and Bosh all came together because they knew that they couldn’t win a championship alone. End of story. It’s different from what the C’s did. Management put them together to achieve what was the norm in Celtic history!

  • losers speak

he just sounded like lakers when they lost to dallas and said, ‘with the same players, we definitely has a chance to win it all next year’. wtf.

  • jumpman

he’s like any typical celtic’s fan. always being haters and hoping other people lose, especially towards the one’s who are doing well.

  • KwamePooh

i dont get most of the comments… what else is he supposed to say?!?!?! i wouldnt be rooting for the team who eliminated mine. and of course they salty. they lost!!! i didnt see many people being happy after a L

  • Thor

    @DJLT. True That.
    @Giogolo. My mistake.
@Flipnoyce. Listen man, what makes you so sure that they wouldn’t be able to to it themselves? Dwade already did, Bron has been to the finals. They are just some big time antiheroes. End of story.

  • Thor

    *DJL sorry.
